Do not get a greyhound puppy! Adopt an adult! I mean it, they are little terrors on crack. An 18 month old retired racer is still "puppy" enough. Unless you have 27 hours a day to spare...
I reeeeeallly want a greyhonund, but I only can find places to adopt adults, but I would really love a puppy , I have no idea where to look for them, could anyone suggest beeders? I live in Ontario, Canada.. but I am willing to travel to get one as well.
@laraboylemusic There are SO many young adults desperately in need of adoption. To even suggest getting a puppy is a horrible thought. Please, adopt a retired racer. I have two right now and they are just awesome. Don't go the puppy route!
I have a whippet, a close relative of the greyhound- she was so energetic as a pup, but she's calmed a bit with age :) My first dog<3 She's the best little sister ever, lol
Keep in mind the puppies are adorable but like all puppies they have the sharp claws and baby teeth. And as dogs breed for chasing and hunting they do like to chew A LOT. It's not until they're about three or four that they mellow out to the 45 mph couch potatos everyone knows and loves. Like any breed of dog, Greyhound puppies are hyper mischevious little buggers if left to their own devices.
We have an IG and she looks just like some of your pups which are GIANT GH!
Black with white front paws and a white tip tail and a white broad stripe from under their jaw downt their chest....she will be 9 this coming July and her name is Pinhead.
Should these puppies have been allowed to leave their mother at such an early age? See Wikipedia:
"Responsible breeders will not sell a puppy that is younger than eight to twelve weeks old, and in many jurisdictions, it is illegal to give away puppies younger than a certain age (usually between eight and twelve weeks)"
the mother chases some pups and can kill and attack the pups once they are 6 weeks as she gets sick of them and wont assosiate with them again untill they are over 12 weeks thats why greyhounds are sold between 6 to 8 weeks or isolated from the mother untill 12 weeks
I got my dog at 4 weeks and since we got him so young and saw us act and everything he was a sort of dog-humain loll ! when He got tall enough , everybody would go to the table to eat and he would steal someone's chair and wait for his food ( of course we taught him it wasn't right but you could get a better dog so I don't think it's that crazy to let them go young )
First of all, Wikipedia is far from a reliable source on any topic. Second, if you had BOTHERED TO READ THE DESCRIPTION, these came off a race track and are on their way to new adoptive homes. If there wasn't a home available to adopt them, their fate would have most likely been death by .22 caliber bullet to the head as which is a common means of euthanizing greyhounds on the tracks.
I did bother to read the description that's why I referred to the puppies' young age (as it states "4 six week old greyhound puppies"). It was a question. The RSPCA, along with justanswer, ask, yahoo, the NZ SPCA amongst a few all cite that this age is too early to leave their mother.
I don't know much about greyhound racing but I love the breed. Why were these puppies going to be put down? Why did they breed them in the first place if they did not want them? They are lovely puppies.
There is a lot of superstition in the racing industry. For example, "blue" colored greyhounds (really a grayish blue) have a superstitious legend behind them that kennel owners claim make them bad racers. There's no evidence behind this, but it's a superstition, so it's common for many kennel owners to kill blue colored greyhound puppies only on the basis of their color. Sometimes, if adoption groups are lucky, the kennel owners give them up for adoption but it's rare.
If you want to watch a greyhound that washes his face when I ask him to, check out my video. It has been really hard to teach, but the result is so funny !!! I hope you will like it. Thank's
I have teach my greyhound to wash his face, when I ask him to. It has been hard, but the result is so funny !!! You can watch it in my video. I hope you will like it. Thank's
i have a greyhound too,its our second one cause our first died from organ failure, she was only five, our new one is only 2 years old but never raced, not sure why but she can sure run,i'd love to have a puppy greyhound but at 600 pounds they dont come cheap.....:(
Aww they are cute, I have a lurcher which i guess is similar in a lot of ways! got him from a home he was abandoned, i don't know if they race lurchers but he is bloomin fast! lol. He is always up for a walk!! got a video of him running in my videos :)
i have a 5 year old greyhound, hero and he is awesome! he was at the track for 4 years which means he was a good racer. he now lives with his new family with me and he loves it here. if yo want to see my greyhound hero, go to this youtube acc, "PhunindaSun" he is there.
Before we had 2 litters in our home at once one dog had 7 the other 9. And somehow they got out together and got mixed up :( so we had to have a DNA test done
They are absoloutly gourgos dogs !! My family and i have an English Mastive Named Morgan !! She Getting old and i want her to have a Company before she dies !! Do they make good company's for other dogs ??
Adorable, I've had 3 from being 8 week old pups, 2 from same litter. i remember the fun with them lolloping around with their gangly spaghetti legs, Daisy is now 11, Maisy almost 10 and sadly her litter mate Millie died aged 4. Mine are totally pets, never raced and they're the only breed of dogs i'd ever have from pups in the future, even though I also have Border Collies and previously a GSD.
my daughter and i have saved 9 greyhounds in recent years. my last one, Smut, died in 1997 and i miss him horribly. they are terribly funny dogs....their sense of humour is better than most human beings. and they are LAZY. they have had all of the running that they can stand in years past.
I love this video as it shows just how social the dogs are. I have 4 retired racers and 1 pup. (you can hear them begging to get into the kitchen in the background) Before anyone thinks about wanting a Greyhound pup, please think about the words "flying razors". I'll take pit bull pups over greyhound pups any day.
What does 'Flying razors' mean? I want to get a greyhound as a pet not to race. From watching your vid they are just like my staffy pups, very playful. How are they as pets? I'm sure they will need to be walked everyday. I love dogs and I'm begging my fiance to get one. How are they with other dogs? They're beautiful.
Puppies have very sharp teeth and the greyhounds run very fast. put the two together and you have "Flying razors". Greyhounds DO NOT need to be walked everyday as they are sprinters and sleep all day. you'll need to do some research on greyhounds if you want one as they and NOT like other dogs. They are more like 80lb cats.
My husband calls his walk with our grey his morning "drag." She's not very into it. Once she got off the track, she figured she was done. It all depends on the personality and energy level of the grey you adopt. Certainly two 20 minute walks would be enough; one is more than ours wants!
I have a retired racer and two irish wolfhounds...I would love to add a greyhound pup but I heard they are impossible to get a hold of (as opposed to on...but they look like real wigglers)
Help get these beautiful creatures out of Florida where they kill them after they can't race anymore. Google Greyhound rescue and join a more than worthy cause. Many Greyhounds need good homes.
before you say crap like that. Visit some kennels, farms etc... then your response will be respected. Quit luring people to give money to organizations like PETA, GREY$2K, etc.. that want your money by lying about the industry so they can live in the lap of luxury instead of making a living off hard work.

The breeder thought he would die so we took him home with his brother Elton who had a bad foot which he had to have partly amputated. Ellie Bean, she was a runt too, similarly he called us and asked if we wanted to take her. We were just lucky, they are great even if they were "lemons".
