I know what you mean Leonidaskavakos, I thought he played this too slow also. I personally like it played 'up to speed' which gives it a more brilliant sound, over a slower, more introspective approach as he does here.
This is from his studio recording that was released on CD with the other five sonatas. So no, he is not practicing, ha. The other is a live recording of an encore at a music festival following his performance of the Dvorak violin concerto. I, for one, prefer the slower tempi in his recording. The encore is a bit showy.
i really prefer this movement played this way.
