  • First time I watched this movie, at school, I was about ten years old. 'til the end of the movie I actually believed that he disarmed the soldier around the corner and wore his clothes to save himself together with his kid :'(

(I know it's really stupid, but I was a child)

  • I'm so glad you put Life is Beautiful in your top 10. It's such an emotional movie, not to mention that being italian it makes me really proud of my country.

  • What's with the dubbed version of Life is Beautiful...?

  • Wait.................did they ever show this version (English) in America? The version I saw was Italian.

  • @lurch321 i saw it too in Italian version i have am on dvd the name in Italian is La vita e bella

  • Didn't the soldier ask if he understand a word he's saying? I guess if the whole movie is dubbed, that question wouldn't make any sense, huh?

  • that was the saddest movie ive seen of all time. Screw the stupid hooker who dies in titanic, this is freaking emotional.

  • i prefer it in Italian its more emotional, the soldier even says to the boy "you don't understand a word i'm saying do you?!" that itself makes it interesting, in the English version they change so much and it breaks the connection quite abit with the movie as to if it was i Italian.. (im not Italian by the way but i appreciate the italian version better)

  • Scenes is plural by the way lol.

  • I know I saw Life is Beautiful on TV when I was young with my mom and we both cried! I can't believe it was this movie! I didn't know the name.

  • neve seen it what it about

  • The kid in this movie`s real name is Guissipononino Abortrucci-Napalitono.

He was 19 when this movie was made and is acaully an actuwarious type dwarf. Meaning he will never be taller. The fellow playing the american soldiers is from the Czech Republic,, he was speaking Arterian during filming and it was dubbed over in English. In real life he had never heard of America or the second world war.

  • @xvoy2002 Really? Never heard of America or WWII? Hahaha

  • I remember this movie.

I watched it when I was younger.

    Hmm.

  • One thing though, that American co-driver/pilot is entirely too happy. But maybe he was putting on a show for the kid. I don't know.

  • I watched 'Life Is Beautful' in a History class about four years ago and have seen several times since. Every time this scene comes up and he's lead behind the wall I want to do that waving fingers thing he does to bring him back out. And after all is said and relatively done, his son leaves his hiding place and shouts "It's true!" -in Italian, I mean- major weeping each and every time. ToT

  • first time is aw life is beautiful i was little and i didn't cry but i understood it had a sad genre to it...Again i saw it last year or in 9th grade and I truly wanted to cry but too embarrassed because of people around omg I really broke down when the dad starts "mock marching" he built a safe and innocent world for his son in the darkest times they faced and i knew he was gonna die so i just broke down

  • What is "Life is Beautiful" about? Can someone explain?

  • Italian Jews were put in a concentration camp during The Holocaust. Throughout the entirety of the concentration camp, he tells his son that its just a "Game" that they need to win for a prize. Tragic movie...

  • to add on to what VisualOrgasm said, not only does he convince his son it is a game, but he has to hide his son because the nazi's killed all the children becase they could not work

  • A walk to remember should be there and allso saving private ryan and allso pearl harbour but kinda good anyways

  • you can't really hear the song at the end but it sounds like a song from the opera. can someone tell me what song it is?? Thankss

  • does anyone know the title of this movie I need to find out.

  • It's called "Life Is Beautiful," or "La Vita è Bella" in Italian.

  • oh my goodness, this movie was so funny yet so sad.

  • gah...This got to me..i love this movie

  • I haven't seen Life Is Beautiful. Is it good?

  • i saw it at school, even in italian with subtitles its amazing

  • me too i first saw it in sixth grade....the entire class cried...even guys...great movie. but a sad one

  • "A walk to remember"

should have been on the list in my opinion.

    good list though. enjoyed it.

  • TUT...please...

  • song at END?!!!??!?

  • I cry every time he cries "Mama!" because you don't whether she lived or not - and then when he says it, you know. And then he says they won! It's like twenty different tear-jerkers all at the same time.

  • life is beautiful is such a great movie, he keeps stalling and stalling that their winning the compitition 4 the tank and in the end his little boy gets it XDXD

  • what about reqium for a dream?

  • agree with #1!! life is bautiful is one of the saddest movie ever with this devotted father on his way to death but still joking around to make his son believe that all this is a game this was so brave ...and he finaly won his tank

  • sounds lame, but i cried during "marley and me"

  • me too! haha i cried before there was even any sad parts :)

  • what about the "champ" from 1979? one of the saddest movies, no question about it.

  • Hmm, that looked like a good movie.

  • it is, you need to see it

  • life is beautiful.

when you tink about the storyline and plot, its sadder that braveheart, titanic ,and armaggedon rolled into one, but yet i fail to see how it ISNT funny when ur watching it

  • How was the end of Saving Private Ryan not top 5?

  • agreed

  • yup. yup. yup. best movie ever, i love it. this movie and titanic are the only movies that make me REALLY cry

  • OMG! i remember this movie i saw it in italian with english subtitles in mexico. i wanted to cry so bad but i couldn't! :(

  • you have to cry whenyou notice the narrator was the son not the father

  • omg i so remember this movie it was this family sent to a concentration camp and they wer seperated and the dad didnt want to let the little boy no he was in a nazi death camp so he sed it was a game and the nazis rnt aloud 2 see u and he sed the winning prize was a tank then at the end the dad is killed and the little boy lives then the amaericans attack the camp with a tank

  • Dear lord. Worst child acting ever.

In terms of WWII movies, the saddest are definatly Schindlers List & The Pianist.

  • Dont forget The Sound of Music bro. ;)

  • I don't think you understand that the movie was dubbed over from Italian. The best way to ruin this movie is watch it without subtitles.

  • starting for crying

  • This is too much for me! I don't think i can bear watcing it ever again! You could also have included like ALL the scenes from Cinema Paradiso! I start crying almost from the beginning whenever I watch it!

  • Concentration Camp movies are my fav!! ^.^

  • hey i watched this movie at school is so hilarious

  • You mean I watched this whole damn thing, then there is a rundown at the end

  • I don't agree that Beautiful life is the sadess movie, I agree that is one of the top, however I think to sadess is my dog skip.

  • To be really honest. I just watched about six different "Most sad movie scenes" and Im really surprised that bridge to terabithia didnt come up cause that was actually really sad. mainly because it was unexpected.

  • What about the one with the Rabbits. They get run over by a brum-brum.

  • Schindler's List is definately the saddest film ever. Followed by John Q, & Green Mile.

  • heyhey.. my former teacher made us watch that italian movie too.. lol.. really a sad movie

  • how was schindlers list not on here?

  • in order to understand the beautiful life scene, you have to see the whole movie.....not in english translation( just with subtitles)

  • Roberto Benigni (the main guy who plays Guido Orefice) also wrote and directed the film. Talk about multi-talented

  • Click was the saddest because I cried when the dad walked out crying.

  • it's been a looooooooong time since i've actually cried

and when i saw that scene in click it just all of the sudden happened

    such a sad scene
