why would you have your drag so tight? i would have it a little looser, so the fish can take it out.. but not enough where it takes all your line... i would have had the drag a little loose.. it will take you longer to reel in, but its not as much of a hassle, and makes sure you dont snap your line in half like what it did to your pole... nice fish by the way =)

@captchancey I've never seen a pro, or even experienced amaeteur NOT use a fighting belt with that much size and weight of fish. But it does make it easy to understand==with that rod between your legs, why your voice was so high.

The concept of the rod between your legs is the same as using a sea saw when you were a kid. As a kid there would be no way you could lift another child above your head but when you use your body weight as a counter ballance it is easily possible. Goliath's can pull up to 3 times their body weight in spurts. So a 500 pound fish can pull up to 1500 pounds of pressure. You can fight that type of weight with a harness. Just can't do it.

And I can see that due to the quick maneuvering, you really can't react fast enough with the belt on. Even with big tuna, there is a point when you must take the belt off. It looks like you have the drag buttoned down pretty well, I can see that is necessary to pull em away from structure--and I'm sure it isn't easy to fight the fish and offer comment for the viewer. Thanks.
