This is one of the saddest songs to ever have been written. Even being as young as I was when it came out, I knew the signifigance of this song. I shed tears then and still to this day everytime I listen to this song. It reminds me of loved ones that I have lost in my life and how they would want me to smile when I think of them and not cry. But who can really do that? Oh what a powerful song to the heart and soul! Christopher Cross was so very talented and wrote some beautiful songs. :-) ♥
When this was recorded and released on Another Page in early 1983, it had nothing to do with General Hospital. That all changed when released as a single in late 1983.
These 2 folks aren't thinkin' of Laura. Chris hit #9 in Billboard, 2-4-84. Played on General Hospital, whenever Luke Spencer thought of his beloved, Laura. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!
Laura was killed during homecoming weekend at the college, when she was struck by a stray bullet in the city of Columbus, Ohio, when a bullet fired over a block away during an altercation between 4 men, struck her as she was sitting in the backseat. At the time she was sitting in the back of a car, being driven by her parents, who were visiting her for homecoming, and had taken her and two of her lacrosse team teammates to dinner following a game she had just played in.
this sweet song reminds me when i first met my husband 20 years ago.... we were 17 and so in love ^^Today we have two lovely boys and i love him as deeply as ever!!!!!
For all- I correct myself...girlfriend's not wife's friend who died - from his own page-
"Laura was the best friend, of a lady that Christopher was dating at the time in the early 80s. She was killed by a stray bullet while driving in a car one night. Christopher wrote this song in remembrance of Laura. It had nothing to do with General Hospital. But after the song was released on the Another Page album, GH requested permission to use the song on their show."
Was this made for General Hospital? I remember when it came out, but now everytime I hear it, I think about a girl that went to my church, hername was laura, and she was also a teacher, she became pregnant and was planning on marrying her fiance. When she went to have her little boy, she died after giving birth to him. Her parents who are in their 50s are raising him, he is almost three now, he's a handsome little boy.

I liked this story even more when I found out the reason he wrote it... Chris Cross was one helluva musician and songwriter.

@buccofan No, they are direct descendants of Mozart.
By the way, does someone have to remove his penis before he sings?

@buccofan Have to agree with you!

Christopher Cross never got the full recognition he deserved.

The story as I know it is that Laura, who was the friend of a girl Christoper Cross was dating back in the late 70s, died in a car accident.
