I'm happy someone else noticed that this particular version ( despite the quality of sound) is the best ever!!! I own so many versions of this aria: even Kirsten doesn't have a better one.

Exceptional, as we expect from the Norwegian soprano ... including her great gifts, delivery, tonal quality, intelligence, et. al. Only a few ... Lehmann, Nilsson, Traubel and a handful ... are anywhere at her level.

This is undoubtedly the greatest Liebestod ever recorded. Flagstad sometimes sang this before the war without great involvement. After the death of her husband, near the end of WW 2, she became a different person and it is clearly evident in this performance. The entire opera performance is incandescant and remains a testament to one of the greatest artists of all times. So glad you posted this!!! Hope it will be heard around the world over and over again.
