  • YeSssssss!!! Gonna hear them live !!!

  • racist men of the 60s could only have been jealous of this great music

  • what song is the piano at the beginning from?

  • @greenleaf2091 It's growing by the temptations

  • perfection and priceless todays generation dont no what they missed coz you will never get better music than the motown/soul music as i said priceless

  • PRICELESS! Talk about bringing someone joy.

  • PURE CLASS.

  • Two rival groups who believed in showmanship and had a style all their own.the scene at 3.25 just shows the class and panache these wonderful artistes strived for which sadly in this 'modern era' is seriously lacking.todays music artists probably need to watch these videos to see how hollow they sometimes come across.

  • @321ako They would never figure it out. They are so self-absorbed, they'd look for things to criticize about the Tempts and Tops instead of seeing what they could learn from them.

  • ANY QUESTIONS?

  • @boytoy3269 Hahaha. Exactly.

  • Im a young guy but i was brought up on this stuff! Music was an art back in the day now its just a business, such a shame!

Thanks for the upload, make sure you pass motown on to the younger generation

  • CLASS!!!

  • I rmeber watching this and ever since I've thought of these fantastic performers as thetemptationsandthefourtops. Absolutely ELECTRIC performance!

  • I got chills watching the opening moves. So much fun and joy.

  • Which Temps lineup is this? I recognize Otis, Melvin, and Dennis, but the other two I can't place.

  • @Veggieman87 Richard Street and Ron Tyson

  • @qwertymanor Thanks. That would've been my guess.

  • Classic music, not like the shit on the radio these days!!

  • Great memories

  • what got me into motown was the jackson 5 but wow!!!! i LOVE THE FOUR TOPS AND TEMPTATIONS!!

  • RIP LEVI STUBBS.WE LOVE YOU!!

  • The temptations are bad....

  • The best voice among all these is levi stubb's voice !

  • Love both bands equally! What an excellent medley! Today's music doesn't even come close to this!

  • The Temps will always win excellent showmanship you have to see them live with Dennis

  • My two most favorite bands EVER!!

  • Well it's hard when most of the songs were when David was in the group.

  • what is the tempts first song?

  • @pluxtheduck get ready

  • @qwertymanor no thats not?

  • best music ever. always reminds me of KEARTH 101 and my childhood in LA

  • ol skool battle mean maori mean

  • brilliant

  • who could dislike this?

  • bad asss

  • At a mowtown weekend back in the 80's the four tops sang happy birthday to me...best birthday present you could ask for.

  • Now this is what I call entertainment.

  • Temps were great. Tops were great, but Levi out sung everybody, without breaking a sweat. Melvin Franklin was in a class by himself, also.

  • brill vid gud tunes !!!

  • effervescentttttt !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Motown music is the best

  • Thank you Temptations and four Tops for such wonderful music! You just can't help but to feel good listening to this great music!!!

  • 4:32 - 4:40

  • Le meilleur de la soul de l'epoque !

Malgré mon jeune age c'est les meilleur musique !!

  • que de belles images. Magnifique. Merci pour les fans.

  • @soon51 Oh un fan francais des temptations !

  • My hairs are standing up on my back (didn't think i had any) reminds me of the best live act I have ever seen,The Temptations and I have never been to a Four Tops concert. This is brilliant.

  • Forget the bullshit, you tube giving us this memory is enough, yes the temps minus Otis are gone and Levi has passed but let's cherish this forever, G

  • NOTHING LIKE THE TEMPS!!!!!!! OR THE FOUR TOPS FOR THAT MATTER!!

  • amazing completely amazing im amazed at their voices i wish they could get back together for another live motown concert vote up if you agree

  • @KillaJ4L Well half of them have died so.

  • I was seven or eight when i saw this on tv with my family, i believe it was in '87 or something. This broadcasting of Motowns 25ths anniversary left an impression which never can be erased.. like Michael Jacksons billie jean.. just phenomenal! A great battle here with the Temptations and the Four Tops!

  • @chetstun 1983

  • @chetstun - this is from 1983 during the Motown 25ht Anniversary Concert.

  • We don't have true over all entertainers like this anymore. Did you see the dance steps? The clothing? The CLASS?! These were all around GENTLEMEN on stage! No gyrating or grabbing their "packages"!

  • this is just magic magic magic feel so good when you hear these songs

  • that is jsut phenomenal!!

    pure feelgood music

  • I was into alternalitive music at the time, but still watched this all the time. still do, never loses it's charm

  • The Temps and The Tops. Two of Motown's greatest groups. There certainly isn't music like this anymore.

  • mane i bump this shit over three six neday thismy shit

  • Who sings the opening song?

  • Like Wow! Tie!

  • The Temps w/o with David Ruffin simply aren't the Temps. I mean no hate to his "replacement," but it's totally true. David Ruffin had it.

  • The Temps w/o with David Ruffin simply aren't the Temps.

  • good lord, i wanna get my hands on a instrumental of this!

  • I don't know. As much as I like these set of Temps, to me the orginal 5, Otis, Eddie, Paul, Melvin (Blue), and David were great. I would really like to seen how far they could have gone, if the dragons had gotten a hold of a couple of them. Not matter these are the 2 groups I liked best when I was growing up. The Temptation were and are my favorite.

  • IL n' y a pas photo, les Noirs sont les meilleurs en musique !

  • temps 10 times better without david ruffin

  • @28richardwm how wrong are you...

  • I was lucky enough to see the Temptations in Rhode Island, Four Tops were supposed to be on, but, due to illness, we saw the O'Jays instead, this video is sooo good, love them both, fantastic voices that will never stop giving me the shivers when I hear them, absolutely brilliant....don't make 'em like this anymore

  • LEVI STUBBS WAS TO THE FOUR TOPS WHAT MICK JAGGER WAS TO THE ROLLING STONES! CLASSIC ACT!

  • IT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT BERRY GORDY BANGED EVERY FEMALE SINGER THAT CAME THROUGH MOTOWN. HE IS IN THE SAME SHIT BOAT AS JOE JACKSON; MICHAEL JACKSON'S FUCKFACE FATHER. DID YOU KNOW THAT JOE USED TO BEAT HIS KIDS UNTIL THEY GOT THE RIGHT PITCH ON THEIR RECORDINGS? MAY HE ROT IN HELL-FIRE!

  • superb....

  • Bravo, bravo, bravo....and I drooled about these guys 1st time around.

  • this will always be my favorite group of all time.

  • Absolutely fantastic video,The two groups were fantastic in their day in their own right but what a superb performance together,

And to see the friendship between them puts todays vain pop idols to shame.

  • Agree, Davis was the core but Paul could sing his ass off as well as Eddie, but only Otis remains, let's all cherish the best The Temps, closely foolowed by Levi, and the Tops, Bless them all, akeoldies

  • "Without David Ruffin ya'all just fake ass Temps"

  • My head just exploded from too much awesome in one video.

  • is it just me or does the temptation that replaced eddie look like kat williams

  • Wow! This Excited Me All The Way.. I Had A Huge Smile On My Face Through Out The Whole Video. AMAZING! This Excited Me Way More Than Artists Today... What Happened To Music? & I'm Only 15 Years Old. Music Was GREAT Just GREAT Back Then. I Don't Know What Happened. That's Why I Changed My Music. I Only Listen To Music From The 60's - 90s. Music Today is Crappy.

  • real talent w/ friendly competition.....had this show happened these days, levi and his "crew" would have been waiting after the show with AKs ready to bust a cap in dennis and the tempts...or vice versa

  • Why is it always a competition between posters saying whos best...They are all brilliant, those deceased and alive....We all have our favourites, mine is Melvin..because he just looked so happy all the time...Do we have to hate on each other because we all have different opinions....They were all amazing!!

So glad Motown found its way to Scotland!

  • whoo i love this!! wh

  • WooHoo, The Tempts, and the Tops....This is a good as it gets, folks.

  • Without RUFF, PAUL and EDDIE this battle is worthless!!!!

  • :@MrWosclifton: WRONG!!!!!, LEVI WAS, STILL IS and WILL ALWAYS be the BEST male vocalist EVER, a distant second to him on your list is Paul, Eddie and Cruffin come NOWHERE NEAR, the late GREAT MR. LEVI STUBBS!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • @Jennykate1985 I was talking about the TEMPS lineup that night,I didn't even mention the TOPS, OK MRS. STUBBS!!!!! P.S. We all know what a great voice LEVI HAD!!!!!

  • I was just listening to this closely again and something just hit me, Ron Tyson sounds NOTHING like Eddie Kendricks!!!!, He is NOT even trying to sound like him, He very much has his OWN VOICE!!!!.

  • Dennis Edwards must have been pissed when he found out on this night that, as Levi told him earlier, someone really was taking his place (Allie Woodson!).

  • What a wonderful venue You-Tube is to make viewing this possible, If you were into Motown how good is this, long kive the late 50's, 60's, and that's it. Ake

  • The Four Tops took this night over The Tempts because they had the MUCH BETTER lead (no offence to Ron Tyson, singing Get Ready, he is good) and backing voices!!!!.

  • Doesn't Ron Tyson (sinigng Get Ready) sound alot like Eddie Kendricks?, props goes out to him!.

  • Levi made Richard Street looked BAD!!!.

  • this is classic, bring back motown, music knows no race or colour, just love........

  • Velveeta shells and cheese! Its the same ole' side!

  • Oh when the music was pure.....

  • I cannot stop crying to listen these old nice songs.

  • This reminds me of my cousin saralee..LuV & miss U cousin

  • So many memories ...

  • vi la pelicula y quede alucinado son fantasticos

  • MOTOWN = LEGENDARY

  • When was this?

  • Amense!

  • is it just me, or does levi look truly angry when he gets his song stolen? not just "messing about angry", but "well and truly annoyed"?

  • id really like the originals To have a battle

    R.I.P David , Paul , Melvin , Eddie , Levi

  • I actually liked The Four Tops performance better besides all their original members were there while The Temptations lead singers were not present (Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin) The Tempts wasn't rockin like The Tops due to keep changing the line up

  • @TheJacksonsTriumph Well, I know the original lead singers were not there ,but The Temptations still held their own. Dennis was no slouch, Ron held his own. and of coarse Melvin and Otis do their thang. And Rich was great.

  • @TheJacksonsTriumph - "The Tempts wasn't rockin like The Tops due to keep changing the line up." The line up you see are the same guys who was part of the group when they sang Papa Was A Rolling Stone except for Tyson. He replace Harris.

  • love both groups but the four tops just give me more of a nostalgic feeling

  • sweet

  • One of, if not the BEST Musical Specials EVER aired on TV. Nobody did it any better than these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Got chills when I watched it live and just got chills watching on video. The highlight of the night along with Michael . Incredible show, still have the tape.

  • Marvellous duel between Levi and Dennis.

  • This show; Motown 25 was one of the most electrifying Specials in Television's History.

"Reach Out" is what made me get a Guitar back in 1965 - "Mom Dad I want a Guitar."

I like all of The Temptations many lineups but I must say that David & Eddie musta really been of EVERYONE's SHIT LIST because even Marvin Gaye who was no longer with Motown came back for this one - check out Marvin's "What's Going On" from this show.

    Total Class All The Way!

  • This is a high point for music, right here.

  • Even though they were both great The Temptations & The Four Tops were a contrast in stability. While the original members of the Tops stayed together for over 40 years, the Temptations were constantly changing personnel as a result of internal strife.

Most notably absent from this version of the Temps are Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin, even though both were still alive at the time of this performance!

  • I met Davivd Ruffin a few times.. being from Philly, what a nice guy! It is a shame that drugs ended his talent and most of all his life!

  • Thank you so much for sharing. This reminds me of when the 4 Tops and Temptatations played in Philly about 1967 at the Spectrum (or the Vet..can't remember which). It was the highlight of my life at age 17.

  • I love both groups equally and I can't believe all Four Tops are gone! This performance was top shelf all the way!! You could definitely feel the love among these men!

  • Duke Fakir is still alive and touring with the current version of the Four Tops

  • That's great, gnvair! Alt least there's still one original left!

  • Actually Abdul "Duke" Fakir, one of the original Tops, is still alive as far as I know!

  • Yes he is. Saw Four tops last night in Nottingham & hes alive and well.

  • I Swear this was the Best Music Ever Created !!! 70s 80s and early 90s! Man MOTOWN!!!! The Land of Music....The Best Artist came from Motown....Loved This!!I have this whole tape =]

  • Great duel between Levi Stubbs and Dennis Edwards. Both powerful lead singers, in top form.

  • Lots of talent together

  • Just Love Melvin Franklin's bass voice with the Temps....remarkable.

  • @The10thGroup o m g i am a black woman dressed up as an irish girl .they are just great .i wish i was there ,i just love them.

  • I have all of the top Mowotown groups on some original albums, but while many of them where singing their hearts and souls out, Berry Gordy was counting the money!!!

  • @charliestube1 should of wrote and "Berry Gordy was just counting the money!!! "

Look at The Funk Brothers how he treated them. yes he is a Businessman. bi=ut also heartless.

  • :@Lesgeorge123: AMEN TO THAT, THAT'S ALL HE CARED ABOUT, NOTHING OR ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!.

  • :@Lesgeorge123: Berry Gordy was just a THOUGHTLESS PIECE A SHIT!!!!!.

  • i agree RAZORBACK , but dont forget OTIS REDDING !

These arms of mine & ive been loving you , too long

  • SIMPLY AMAZING..MADE MY DAY

  • now that's how u sing live

  • lmao call me crazy, but i jus realized how much Ron Tyson looks like Ralph Carter (Michael from "Good Times") lol...anyway, I love both groups !

  • :@dusroots: Lol....I just realizd that too!!!.

  • True professionals putting on a GREAT SHOW!!!

  • Denis Edwards and Levi Stubbs were outstanding.

  • Both groups are great but its gotta sting when every time the temptations start to sing the crowd roars more and more

  • RIP ..your voices & music contrubutions to the world are truly missed... David Ruffin, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, Levi Stubbs, Flo Ballard, Mary Wells,Philippe Wynne, Bobbi Smith, Henry Fambrough, Pervis Jackson, Jackie Wilson & Marvin Gaye:-) long live the 60's &70's music there will never be another great music area & if I forgot someone please add there names below!

  • Such Great Talent and such Great Music. Thank you for posting this.

  • I hope the audience knows how lucky they were.Ièd give my left arm to go back in time and be there. Just amazing!!! God I wish Levi was alive and still in his prime. The best voice in Motown! RIP

  • Dennis Edwards showed everone he`s the man!

  • can any one tell me all the song they were playing?

  • Tops: Reach Out (I'll Be There), It's the Same Old Song, Baby I Need Your Loving, I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)

Temps: Get Ready, Ain't Too Proud to Beg, My Girl, I Can't Get Next to You, (I Know) I'm Losing You

  • ever noticed that the dude next to levi barely sings with the microphone? like he would start with it then put it down but still be singing.

  • damn how good is levi, such a unique voice, i swear to god if i could sing anywhere near as good as him, i would never talk again, id just sing

  • Dennis Edwards had strong voice!

  • the ULTIMATE showdown!

  • Allways makes me smile

  • this just makes it all worth while

  • nah the four tops held there own my dude ! its just the temptations choreography was superb !

  • music will never be like this again

  • The Temptations whooped the Four Tops butts!!! LOL Much more uniformed and much better songs :-D

  • It's game over if David Ruffin is there.

  • Yeah, David and Eddie should have been there. But I still believe Levi would have come out on top. But we'll never know.

  • Over David and Eddie,I think the Tempts won even though David and Eddie and Paul werent there, but the Tops still did well

  • Temps had the greater body of work, but the Tops biggest songs (in this medley) were just as good as anything the Temps ever did. Levi Stubbs get my vote as best R&B singer who ever lived.

  • Its a matter of opinion. But I dont think the 4 Tops songs were just as good as anything The Tempts ever did. The Way You Do The Things You Do, Since I Lost My Baby,You're My Everything,I Wish It Would Rain, All I Need, Cloud Nine, Ball fo Confusion,Just My Imagination, Papa Was A Rolling Stone

  • if only the orignals were there like the heavy weight of the temp's

  • SO so true

  • it still was game over, even though he wasnt there. I know he was tight that he wasnt there, him and Eddie

  • hey! i made a motown group! make sure to check that out and join! thanks!

  • my favorite on here is definitely my girl! haha! one of those gys im not sure which has a crazy deep voice! its amazing!

  • that's melvin franklin on the far left in the black.

  • thanks! I love him! he is awesome! did you check out my motown group?

  • wow! this is amazing!!!!! I love love love it! thanks so much for posting!!! AHH! GREAT!

  • i don't know who is responsible for posting this! But, THANKS a million!!!!!

  • Alrite but u swear i think some of those guys suk thats y i got into the oldies im just 14 but Lil' Wayne is great some of his songs arent peoples fave like about money and girls but some of his songs are really emotional like Shoot Me Down, Dr. Carter, Tie My Hands, I Feel Like Dying tells how bad drugs affect someones life

  • To user JustCallMeLuis20...I don't believe in talkin s*** about anybody, but rather I speak the truth about BS jive. Hip Hop today is like poison, & for the most part aritst like LiL Wayne feed it. I see many of these carbon copied duche-bags all day long, & diginity & class are always abscent. What really pisses me off even more is how alot of our young people try hard to immulate this non-sense in the communities, like in Chicago. I have no tolerance for the intolerable, & just plain stupid.

  • Its been awhile since I've pulled out that old taped VHS recorded Motown 25 show for a fix, so I appreciated this. Loved The Temps & The Tops, but in the end them 5 Spades took it home, especially when they start shufflin & cuttin them steps, lol. Motown 25 needs to be on DVD already. Some of the best music & performances to date. I miss those times & the joy of them long before music went to hell with the likes of turds like LiL Wayne, T-Pain, Britany Spears & the rest of the neo manure.

  • that wuz kute

  • haha the tempz 4ever sry 4topz still gt love 4 ya

  • hahaha wooooooooooow
