he friggin better be...c'mon man he's put his time in to earn the right to play superman on the big screen, and he's one helluva actor...only advice to the developers and story board people for the movie...give us something NEW...superman returns was a revamped version of the original one and it sucked...badly...superman vs. doomsday or something epic, and lotsa controversy I know but superman needs a costume update the silver and black one for doomsday cartoon wasn't too bad or something.

They always give you little teasers like that. I was just glad to see Cyborg in the justice league. Smallville is light weight crapola. He would suck as a original Superman because they have tried to blend to damn many Superman stories together for the series. The only thing smallville ha going for it is the blond chick with the long face Allison Mack. And that bullshit lets blend Christopher Reeve body with Tom Welling was just lazy. It is slightly entertaining but I have read c/b's for over 30 years and the stories are re-vamps and not good ones. And its because of the television budget.
I don't think Tom Welling is a bad actor, but I don't think he has the range to be anyone but Clark from Smallville. I think he made that role his own. In fact, I think he got really good at it up till about Season 7 where it seems like he's just riding it out now. The producers are killing the original vision of Smallville which was excellent up to Season 6. (There were a few iffy episodes, but the standard was good) Since the original creators are gone, it's really weak ;(

Dude, what if D.C decides to make Tom Welling as Superman-Prime instead of normal Superman? I twould explain a lot of the differences, and smallville being darker n etc.
Since Tom Welling is filming Smallville season 9, don't think realistically he'll be able to film Superman: Man of Steel, unless he can find time to film both the show and the movie. If producers film man of steel with Tom, it will be only after Smallville has ended, assuming season 9 is the last one.
I think one of the bigger problems with the Routh version of Superman is he tried to be TOO much like Chris Reeves. Even down to quoting some of the famous phrases from the orginal movie. It was like watching a cheap carbon copy. Routh just couldn't copy the Reeves delivery of dialogue. Plus....I hope the suit get some reworks. The Tom Welling version of Superman would be much different than Reeves. Would he be good? No doubt...would he be better? That can only be seen when it happens

On a separate note, I've always felt that Batman moving in cosmic circles doesn't feel right. I've only seen a few Justice League animated episodes, and I like that he's largely "a silent partner" or whatever he said his status was.

Routh did ok. But if anyone who can pull it off, It's Welling. Other than him having the look and as far as his acting goes, he's a better actor than Routh is. At first, years ago, I have been concered about it as well. But as it turns out, he's a tremendous actor and I will never doubt him again. And according to me and so many fans, we want him to get the part and if the fan want it bad enough, maybe, just maybe, it'll come true.

I agree, Routh IS the new big screen Superman. The show refuses to bring the full potential of the Welling character into play which is unfortunate since Kent is all we see. Reeves is and always will be that bar to attain.

I don't think Tom Welling is a bad actor, but I don't think he has the range to be anyone but Clark from Smallville. I think he made that role his own. In fact, I think he got really good at it up till about Season 7 where it seems like he's just riding it out now. The producers are killing the original vision of Smallville which was excellent up to Season 6. (There were a few iffy episodes, but the standard was good) Since the original creators are gone, it's really weak ;(

I don't buy 'em all the time but I some research of my own. And like sooo many fans, they want him to play the part for the rebooted film, one day. I hope so, too.

Since Tom Welling is filming Smallville season 9, don't think realistically he'll be able to film Superman: Man of Steel, unless he can find time to film both the show and the movie. If producers film man of steel with Tom, it will be only after Smallville has ended, assuming season 9 is the last one.

I think one of the bigger problems with the Routh version of Superman is he tried to be TOO much like Chris Reeves. Even down to quoting some of the famous phrases from the orginal movie. It was like watching a cheap carbon copy. Routh just couldn't copy the Reeves delivery of dialogue. Plus....I hope the suit get some reworks. The Tom Welling version of Superman would be much different than Reeves. Would he be good? No doubt...would he be better? That can only be seen when it happens

The big problem was not Routh, it was Bryan Singer s , directing , and script , for that lousy crappy boring movie, Bad directors can screw good actors, or do you thnk Kevin Spacey is a bad actor , becaus e hi Luthor character was above standards. Nope the key element on a Movie is the director, he can have average actors, or people who play themselves , as Eastwood did with some of the cast of his Torino film.

I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY as a Smallville and Superman fan if Tom Welling could play the role of Supeman in the new rebooted movie!!! I mean he's got the look for the part, he's farmiliar with the character for so many years in the show and he's such a wonderful actor.

I agree. If they do a Justice League film, I'd want Tom Welling as Superman and Christian Bale as Batman. If Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, A Green Lantern and Flash were in it, I'd be happy. Any more would be a bonus.

I suppose Hawkman would be too hard to explain. Green Arrow would do, though.
On a separate note, I've always felt that Batman moving in cosmic circles doesn't feel right. I've only seen a few Justice League animated episodes, and I like that he's largely "a silent partner" or whatever he said his status was.

I dont think Tom Welling would work as Superman, mainly because his portrayal of Clark Kent is far diferent from the actual Clark in the DC universe... I really liked Rouths aproach to Superman but the character needs that human feeling that only Chris Reeves has been able to put through.

Routh did ok. But if anyone who can pull it off, It's Welling. Other than him having the look and as far as his acting goes, he's a better actor than Routh is. At first, years ago, I have been concered about it as well. But as it turns out, he's a tremendous actor and I will never doubt him again. And according to me and so many fans, we want him to get the part and if the fan want it bad enough, maybe, just maybe, it'll come true.

I guess we are talking about diferent concepts here, I dont doubt Welling is a good actor, but the character in smallville is very different from the original clark kent, you just have to watch Clark working in the daily planet to get my idea...
Clark is supposed to be clumsy and kind of a nerd as opposed to superman, thats why I think the Welling Clark could use some work.

I agree, Routh IS the new big screen Superman. The show refuses to bring the full potential of the Welling character into play which is unfortunate since Kent is all we see. Reeves is and always will be that bar to attain.

All I'm going to say is that if and when they do make a Justice League movie they had better not pull the same crap they did in Watchmen, took to freaking long to get anywhere, and by the to you got there you barely understood what happened
It would be in DC's best interest to introduce all the JL members in their own movies before a JL movie or at least keep their introductions short and incorporated into the overall plot, like Green Lantern's in New Frontier.

Would Welling even want to do a Smallville-move spinff if it involved putting on the tights? In his own words, he said he signed on to play a "young Clark Kent, not Superman,"; also, he was quoted saying that he didn't want to be forever known as either Clark Kent or Superman, so I'm not so sure he'd ever accept the role. So while I'd love to see Welling as Supes on the big screen, it doesn't seem likely as either a Smallvilee spin-off movie or a totally different franchise whatsoever.

Brandon Routh will be back to play Superman for the "Superman movies" that's NOT the Justice League films, which was already confirmed to get new actors or someone else to play Superman and Batman not Brandon or Bale...Welling is the logical choice for Supes, Batman who knows...

Dudes sorry to burst your bubble...and I know you Smallville fan boys love him but it just not gonna happen especially if they go a darker route. Even though Tom Wellington may take on a youthful Clark Kent I doubt it will ever come to fruition. And as I actually didn't dislike Brandon Routh, he was good, the material was bad but I think in the end the studio will want you to forget these two newest one and start from scratch. That's my feeling anyhow.
