His verse on Forever was subliminal. A "direct" diss would be obvious to everyone, even those unfamiliar. The fact it was "subliminal" means that it was intended to fly under the radar for most people. Not necessarily at a sub-conscious level, but to a degree where the diss was a second entendre of the whole verse--a 'bonus" effect, I guess you could call it.
