  • are we really having consle wars from the 80's??

  • hahahaahaha

  • The baseball game was pretty damned good, as I recall. This is the one that got played the most on the one e had.

  • xbox ps3 ther i win

  • CWI, or Console War One.

  • I think the Atari version is better

  • lol i wish consoles like PS3/360/wii do that to each other nowadays xD

  • I dont think its a good idea to make such a big deal over the graphics for intellivison and the 2600

  • lol i cant make atari out

  • And now I shall return to doing whatever it is I do.

  • Non of the above

  • C: MLB 2k11

  • My dad's friend had an intellivision. he dosen't rember much about it, though. i've never liked the intellvision much. it's not bad, but i just don't like it. I much perfer my coleco instead.

  • Matt Damon was right.

  • "SNNNYARROW" - When I first played Intellivision Baseball back in the day, I thought that players *snarled* when they were called out. It wasn't until like 10 years later that I found out this was an Intellivision voice simulator saying "YER OUT".

  • I love how they don't show they colecovision baseball game because it's obviously better.

  • @McNubcake This commercial aired more than two years before the release of ColecoVision.

  • @IntellivisionProd Ah, pardon my mistake. Even so, the pitcher can field almost anything, although I will admit the Atari 2600 Homerun was awful

  • Oh man, ATARI got burned!

  • Why would I pay $3 to have this on my cellphone when I can use any number of ripping sites? Why would I even WANT this on my phone, for that matter!? I'm not so desperate that I'd jerk it to Plimpton and Atari baseball in a truck stop restroom, y'know? Also Pole Position commercial > this commercial....

  • Oh c'mon. Don't make fun of "Mirror Image Baseball" for the Atari. It's a whole new concept!!! : /

  • ill go with C. MLB 2K10

  • Ohh crap I got it wrong I chose Q :(

  • I am still playing Intellivision Baseball today. It was way ahead of its fucking time.

  • Intellivison was ground breaking...

  • I think the MLB: The Show is the closest thing to the real thing...

  • better graphics dont make a better game jackass

  • omg

  • intellivission has some strange sound effects

  • why does the league let new york let players still play baseball even though they admitted using steroids. why is anybody not doing anything apout it.l

  • Intellevision sucks!Atari Good!

  • Love how all the 14 year olds want to compare a game from 1980 to a game from 2010. Well no shit Sherlock, the one from 30 years ago isn't as good.

  • I said ATARI GEORGE PLIMPTON!

  • Both are absolute garbage.....

  • how fun would it be to travel back in time and show a ps3 baseball game to mr. plimpton. It would make his head explode "kaboom"

  • @pakibukas duhh and if someone came from 30 years into the future and showed you a new video game your head would explode, Technology always advances

  • @SURFSTYLEY4

they probably have electronic suites and visuals that go directly into you freggin brain via cables and 90% of the games are porn related

  • Today, gamers tend to know it's gameplay over graphics. I have both games, and the Atari one is more fun to play. Actually, you know what? Gamers still don't know any better... that's why games like FFXIII sell like hotcakes while games like Record of Agarest War and Deathsmiles sell like crap. Man, gamers suck.

  • i bought this on a fair in sweden :) like ten games too ... i paid like 20 bucks for everything..

works great the oldest game is from 1979!

  • The only thing proven to be "easy" here is how to make a convincing commercial in the 1980's.

  • Intellevision was superior, they even had games with voice and flight simulators.

  • why are there 3 guys pitching in Atari?

  • Which looks more like real baseball?

    A: Atari

    B:Intellivision

    or C: Playstation 3?

I you chose B, you are correct!

  • YEEEER OUT

  • @benzomelon BROES!!!

  • And a hot plate! It's great for soup!

  • LOL they're both crappy!! But what would I know, my grandad wasn't even born yet when these games were new.

  • @chaucer44 hahaha! Teenage pregnancy is funny.......skanks.

  • @campervan25 You guys are OLD hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you're like 30 or something!! OLD TIMERS hahahahahah

  • @chaucer44 Hahahahahahahahaha no I'm not you dumb little shit!

  • i have that game on one of those tv flashback plug-in things

  • There was several baseball games on Atari 2600 obviously they took the worse one to compare to. That being said most intv games were better graphics wise then Atari but as many stated the controls on intv just didn't take off.

  • Well it's a shame. Intellivision looked better but it's rediculous convoluted controls made it annoying to play.

  • Fun console, hope to own one again soon!

  • Hmmmm....I say MLB 10: The show

  • No comparison intellivision owned atari !!! Three guys running in a line WTF !!!

  • I actually remember playing baseball on Atari 2600 back in the day with my friend.I don't remember it being THIS bad.

  • Intellivision obviously had better graphics than the 2600, although the latter seemed better-known, despite the fact that you had to cram as much as you can on the VCS, and make sure that you sync things right with the television.

Even though you had to use your imagination to tell what the hell is going on with your Atari game, it still didn't keep gamers from playing it.

  • Why are there three runners in the Atari game?

  • lol at Atari baseball

    wth was that thing lol

  • George Plimpton was the MAN! R.I.P.

  • George Plimpton is the guy in " Good Will Hunting" (the psychiatrist) that Matt Damon is court-ordered to see. Matt (Will) recognizes him as gay and calls him out on it. Hilarious scene.

  • It's amazing how much 30 years can be when it comes to gaming evolution.

  • I saw an ad just like this in an old issue of National Geographic. They really went all out to prove how much better Major League Baseball was than Atari Baseball. Which Atari baseball game was this?

  • Amazingly enough, the Intellivision is technically the first ever 16 bit console...only problem is the hardware around the processors back then could not really take advantage of it.

  • Same here | ^

  • This commercial was aired back in 1980 I believe, long before NES existed, or any of the later systems. The only major competitors to Intellivision were Atari and Collecovision, both of which had much lower quality graphics and game play.

  • now i miss the Xbox 360 version :P

  • George Plimpton.. why do I know his name.. sad.

Intellivision owned. Better graphics can make a great game and better game play can too. Both rocks. That was the INTY back then. It kicked atari's nards.

  • better graphics dont make a better game

  • yep its all about the gameplay

  • But sometimes it does. In this case, yes it does.

  • @wertyou567 Wanna bet?

  • @wertyou567 It wasn't the graphics of this particular game that they were comparing, but rather the fact that the players moved around in a row of three and, without throwing, literally going up to the catcher and handing the ball off.

  • @wertyou567 Intellivision was hampered by it's piece of shit controllers. And Atari knew their baseball game was so bad that they didn't even call it "Baseball", but Homerun instead.

  • @wertyou567 YESS!

  • Yes they do. You can't do FPS in 2D. You can't do 3D games in 2D. You can't jump on a spinning platform without sprite rotation. You can't do image based games with text. (Well, you can but everything is made of letters)

  • @wertyou567 Oh, they can certainly make a better game, they just can't make a good one.

  • @wertyou567 I think intelivision's game was better, but the console was twice the price and better be.

  • @wertyou567 Try Dk on 2600.

  • @wertyou567 Yeah, but the fact is that if you ever played 2600 baseball, he's right.

  • @wertyou567 True. but INTV baseball was pretty damn good.

  • I love how the intellevsion game belched words like "YOU'RE OUT!!!"

  • Intellivision: The Most Powerful Videogame System EVER!!!!

  • how in the crap does your racist scum ass find its way onto an atari commercial?!?!?

please shoot yourself and fall back into your rotting skinhead hole SmashMouthSavage777.

  • dont tell that to obama you racist white person!hell put you on his list !

  • OMG! ITS THE GUY FROM THE SIMPSONS!! The spelling-bee fella! "and now I go back to what ever it is I do"

    AND A HOT PLATE!

  • I wish someone had the one where there are 2 adult Baseball fans watching George comparing Atari Baseball to Intellivision and at they make comments like "Where the Diamond, there are only 4 players" and at the end one of them says "He was Out"

  • wow, hes the smartest person ive ever seen on the face of the earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Intellivision for the win! Even have the voice synth module and the keyboard addon!

  • Although, this guy is probably the smarmiest I've ever seen. :p

  • I love it. The Intellevision was awesome.

Scratch that -- IS awesome. I still have mine!

  • Hi I'm a mac?

  • why are you bitches defending atari>???? Ever play tron deadly disks? sea battle? fucking nightstalker? All intellivision games and all still awesome!

  • ... And a hot plate! It's perfect for soup!

  • MLB 09 The Show wins, hands down.

Its amazing how far we've come :-)

  • Although I had the Atari 2600 back in the day, Intellivision baseball was a lot of fun. Unfortunately it was 2 player only but I knew a guy who could play both sides with a controller in each hand! It was hilarious to watch him play. :p

  • I remember these commercials and thought this guy was some stuck up prick. A friend had Intellivision and the SPORTS games were better...but I hate sorts games and as a kid always figured- go out and play that sport!

I hate this prick, his fake accent, and his dumb 80s comb over.

  • what a dick....

  • The resemblance to the real sport is uncanny!

  • He is very classy, but is not British, he is as American as they come.

  • Who the hell is going to question Plimpton?

He is noted as a Gamesman. a GAMESMAN. Not some lowly gamer. A Gamesman. How friggin' classy and british is that? Now we got a bunch of fanboy gamers out there, with no master gamesmen to give us the definitive answer.

  • yer out!!!

  • George Plimpton. Possibly the only person in America at that time who was more annoying than Howard Cosell.

  • Please! Intelivision was the bomb. if you have the intellivoice system you were the cool kid on the block for about a year or two in the 1980's - then NES came out........

  • C: Wii Baseball...

Isn't that the game in the princess bride?

  • Wouldn't suprise me. Back then, they would put systems like Atari or Nintendo incertain parts of the movie.

It was meant to be kind of a "ha ha! I have this, and you don't!" XD

  • M-Network Baseball, FTW! Because Fisher-Price Little People love sports too.

  • George Plimpton was a complete badass.

  • Atari was better. The games were FUN. And that intellivision disc-thing controller was really odd.

George Plimpton used to really irritate me with these commercials.

  • I disagree, I think Intellivision has several great games! :)

Sure, some of the games were blatant copies of Atari titles; however, it is a really good system as a whole.

  • Well yea but as you see some games like space armada is just a copy of Atari.

Also the Numeric keypad is kinda akward.

    It looks like a phone

  • Yep, just call a pizzaria for delivery, lolz.

"Hello? Can I get three large cheese pizzas?" XD

When you think about it, competitors do tendo to copy each other's ideas. Have you noticed that "Saint's Row" is very similar to "Grand Theft Auto 3?" Obvious copycat.

The controller is pretty cool, but it does need getting used to just simply because most video game controllers aren't like phones. It's almost like the Wii Remote, lolz.

  • No it looks like a TV remote. Intelligent Television is what Intellivision means. Space Armada is a clone of the arcade game Space Invaders. According to Mattel lawyers, the copyright of the original game hadn't been properly protected. Any other company could make their own version as long as they changed the name ("Space Invaders" is a trademark).

  • atari invented space invaders? Regardless...i played both...intellivision still holds a special place in my heart.

  • Yep. :)

  • Remembering George Plimpton 5 years after his death.

  • @tefisher1984 True, but he was a good choice for these ads. Dont forget he wrote for S.I. and boxed professionaly once, pitched clean up in a major league game and trained with and played QB with the Lions just to write about the experience.

  • ahahah you're out.. classic

  • I remember having Atari 2600 and playing HOMERUN and even though it sucked it was still fun to play. We weren't too spoiled back in the 70's like kids are today. I have PS3 and play MLB08 the SHOW. Now THERE is realism!! However these games bring back memories. I DO remember being a kid and wishing I had the Intellivision baseball game. At the time IT WAS better.

  • neither cause they both sucked and coleco vision was the better graphics console at the time

  • George Plimpton, Hero in every sense of the word.

  • Intellivision definately was the superior system

  • Intellivison was the superior system, but also twice the price. It should be superior for the price.

  • Yes it should be. And it was and still is.

  • There was also and adapter calle INTELLIVOICE... i had the games B17 BOMBER, and TRON... good stuff, voice was funky

  • Atari sold more, but Intellivision became more cult... you'll still find a huge fan base out here... here's one

  • The answer is neither.

  • Atari sold more and was more meorable

  • Ah, George Plimpton. America's strategic reserves of smug sank considerably when he died. Who else could make me feel bad--and intellectually inferior--for owning an Atari 2600 at six years of age? No-one, that's who.

  • Hey, that guy was awesome. He played football for the Lions, pitched in an All-star baseball game, stepped into a ring with Archie Moore, played hockey for the Bruins, AND he could pitch a product. Do you know anyone else who did that much in one lifetime?

  • Yeah, but too bad Intelivision only made about a dozen games before going bankrupt.

    OWNED!

  • I had over 40 games, yeah some sucked but its certainly wasn't just dozen. Maybe a dozen good games. Then you'll be right.

  • You are young and a mere novice in the evolution of video games. Intellivision was the bomb and made tons of games becoming one of the first to offer synth speech. They paved the way for the countless gaming platforms that we now enjoy. Your own profile states~

"Here you will witness a man with no knowledge of technology actually attempt to make youtube videos". Lost some cred there

  • Yeah, I don't know... the Atari sure looked like the Rockies in the Series!!!

    Ha Ha!

  • Wonder if he was finding it hard to hide the fact he is gay way back then?

  • He putts from the rough.

  • He wanted to give that console a jump

  • a little slap and tickle

  • There's a PS THREE now? I heard about the first one, but my Vectrex takes up OH so much of my time.

  • lol I still play PSone games. PSone = greatest console of all time.

Although the games are great upscaled on the PS3 with HD TV!

  • Well not to argue with you sir or mam but the Intellivision is clearly the console of all time. And I play my Intellivision on my HDTV and it looks wonderful.

And I do not know what land you live in but PS1 games look like ass on the PS3. And this is coming from some one that has both a PS3 and a PS1 as well as a good HDTV to test on.

  • I'm 21 mate. Oh I imagine it was, but what I'm saying is, when we look back, graphics always suck. Like I said, look at the 360 and PS3's adverts in about 20 years and we'll probably be laughing at those graphics too.

  • first baseball game to look vaguely like the real thing ever

  • Yep. Football too.

  • Ooo....teh grafix. lawl

  • Intellivision>>>>>Atari 2600

  • hard to tell :p

  • Creddly are you out of your fucking mind? Intellivision baseball came out in the late 70's and you're comparing it to PS3...you need medication.

  • lol Both of those suck when you look at the PS3's graphics today!

It's unbelievable that he even said "Closest to the real thing!" lol

But I suppose we'll be laughing at 360 and PS3 commercials in years to come!

  • Dude, I'm 37 and back in those days, THOSE GAMES WERE considered great. We're talking 30 years since then. If you were ALIVE back then you would have appreciated these systems. They were fun as hell.

  • Pole Position sucks.

  • Jesus, man, it's an ad. Chill out.

  • I was easily the greatest Intellivision Baseball player ever to grace this planet......I may have been 437-1 career wise...and my only loss was when I was 9 an I was recovering from an operation to get my undescended left testicle back in my sack!!!!

I'll put $100 bet to anyone within a 2 hour drive of Baltimore, MD to a 3 game series.

  • yerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ouuuuuuuuttttttttttttt

  • Baseball was my first Intellivision cartridge. A bad choice, as it requires 2 players and I had no one to reliable play against. Still, I miss it so.

  • seeing how on the first clip of intellivision the batter could've gotten throw out at first from right field, i'm not sure if it's close to the real thing. just kidding, i really like intellivision, it beats the crap out of atari's baseball and all other sports.

  • best commercial ever!

  • I remember owning both these games but I liked Intellivision's MLB much better than any other baseball game on the system. Real Sports Baseball was my 2nd fav.
