The full size LTD was available in base/brougham/Landau from 75 -78. base models had round headlamps brougham/Landau hidden headlamps. The LTD II was mid size car based on Torino/cougar chassis. in 1977 ford removed most chrome trim and the Landau hood ornament, replaced with standard ornament to save money. in 1977 Ford also revised speedometers to read up to only 85 in an effort make you slow down and save fuel. in 77 all power options became stand alone. made for many unusual optioned cars.

OK - Yes, upon further investigation - the car is def. a 1978. I will concede.

We had a 1977 LTD II (which was based on the Torino) - She had square headlites - hoever not stacked - all horizontal.

Epic fail on my part.

False. This is not a 1978... well maybe in USA - Our 1977 Ford LTD Landau - had twin STACKED SQUARE headlights, dog. 1976 was the last year for roundies.

Someone changed the dash-board in your ride - to one that had fewer miles on the odometer...That's what's messin' 2000cinders up. She's all 1976. If the gear selector is silver - with a silver knob..enjoy - she might even be older than that.

It is not a 76, my cousin had a '76 and the speedo went to 120-the last year for that. have pics of it when it was new along with a brochure of the '76 & '78 models. starting in '77 speedos went to 85--body style was the same from '75 to '78 so the owner is correct-this is definately a '78...

a friend in high school had a yellow '76 coupe that we used to brake surf. the object was to sit on the hood, get a good grip on the lip as you layed against the windshield, and as the driver got her up to 70mph and slammed the brakes, you held on for dear life while he tried to knock your hands loose with the wipers.

Looks real good for its age. I took my drivers test in an 77 LTD II station wagon. It had the 351M and it ran forever. It was still running smooth when my parents sold it with over 150.000 miles and they routinely pulled a travel camper with it. I'm thinking of building a 400 to replace the 351M in my 48 Ford.

This LTD looks like 1976, are you sure it`s 78, I can see the details of this car and, all this appearence is exactly the same of LTD 76, I had one, and also I know the diffences against LTD 78.

@rexy5 Round headlights were used on all LTDs through the 1978 model year with the later ones enclosed in flip up headlight covers. The smaller redesign LTD in 1979 had the square headlamps, which was basically a Crown Victoria

@Objetivoyrealista I have a 76 LTD wagon... I believe the LTD models didn't change at all from 74 - 76, then afterward changed... yes, there are subtle differences with this one, it's not a 76.

The LTD looked pretty much the same from 1976 to 78. A smaller Torino-based LTD II was produced for '77 and '78. The LTD we see here has a smaller 85 mph speedometer. I think these speeders were mandated in 1977.

I like those cars, except for a few things. I used to drive a 1978 t-bird. It had so much play in the steering wheel, even at 50,000 miles And Ford made the cheapest gear shifting linkage It would clunk into gear.

But for $550 bucks, i'D buy it too. Especially if you've got the time and the knowhow to fix cars.

Midas coudn't do a front end alignment on my 1978 t-bird because it was too big for their alignment apparatus.

It was always in the shop.
