Correction re Dr Korn COmment, Many Kubansti consider themselves Ukrainian to this day. I should know, I know some Ukrainians dancers and singers amogst them, who are and consider themsevles to be UKRAINIAN Kuban Cossacks. There is even a movement for the reunification of Kubanshchyna with Ukraine.
And I enjoy reading stuff posted by Americans whom are totally ignorant of the history of the Rus (Pyc). Russian and Ukrainians both have a shared history and culture. The tactic of the West is to set us apart and "divide & conquer". I am Kuban Cossack and we speak "Balachka" not Ukrainian. For the most part we speak Russian. Go back to school you dumbasses.

Russian and Ukrainian - nearly the same language. In the 19 century in different parts of Russia spoke different dialects of Russian language, which sometimes differed among themselves much more than modern Russian and Ukrainian. Incorrect to say which language is closer. For example in the Ukrainian language, you can find many Turkish words.
Russia - a place where Russian people live (on them keeps Russia). Ukrainians once were Russian. Now they do not think so, but still they are the most close nation to Russia.
І КТО вам сказав, що росіяни не розуміють української мови?
I also recommend you Kuban Cossack Chorus: website "kkh . ru /en". See on youtube to get an impression. I like most "Любо братцы, любо" и „Не для меня", look in my favorites or copy-paste these russian song names in youtube search line. Go to a good CD shop, they take your order, even if nothing on stock.
yashband, love the video, it is great to reconnect with our cultures all over the world, do you (or anyone) happen to know the names of the songs preformed here? I would greatly appreciate it, Спасибо
Look at the site of this group: "krinitza . ru" (remove free spaces when you search in Googgle). They have English version, write e-mail and they will certainly help you to get a CD or DVD. On the russian version cklick the image of gramophone: you will get long list of audio-files with their songs. Klick the red lines one after another, you will find songs which you like.
Great music. The Cossacks, were not a race, but a societal class composed of multi ethnicities. Infact, the southern Russian Cossacks, actually adopted their stylish outfit from the Caucasus regions of Georgia, and Circassia--where the bullet pouched tunics, and papakhi sheepskin hat likely originated.
В България всеки петът българската национална телевизия предаваше руска телевизия. Тия клипове сега запълват една голяма ПРАЗНИНА. Жалко че Channel 1 Ru не излъчва съветски фолклор. Наистина жалко!
Let's not forget too that the ranks of the Cossaks were swollen by run away serfs duing the horrible centuries of serfdom under those bastards, the Romanov Tsars - the only leaders in history to have enslaved their own people!
Exactly. These Kuban Cossacks are the descendants of the Zaporozhians. Thanks to Catharine the not so great, her choice to destroy the Sich contributed to the exodus to the Kuban, as well as the Dunai delta. Russians indeed!!!
Cossacks not Ukrainian. I am from Donetsk, I am a cossack and I am not ukrainian I am Cossack. We are of other ethic backround. You go read some history books.
Political perceptions manufactured by Muscovy do not change historical facts. The Zaporozhian Cossacks originated in Ukraine and are integral to the national identity of Ukriane. There were other Cossacks, such as the Don Cossacks that diverged from their Kyvian roots earlier and not considered Ukrainian (although still first cousins). I can take your word about your origins, but please don't make the mistake of extrapolating your particular case to include all Cossacks.
Zaporajiya was not encorporated into ukraine until 1800 and was held under russia. What you are saying has been fabricated by the western ukrainians to build a sense of culture and connect east and west. Do you know how cossacks came to be? They are not ethnically ukrainian. They speak a proto russian language which is related to ukrainian but in all fairness is not ukrainian.
I think, it is just the matter of semantics. Ukraine nation is being born. During Kievan Rus' northern Duchies were called ukraine, after raise of Muscovites all lands along of the southern border was named ukraine. Like all of the Russian Cossacks can be called Russians just because they leave in Russia, all Cossacks leaving in Ukraine can be called Ukrainian Cossacks or Ukrainians. As well all Polish, Jews, Tatars and other ethnic groups are Ukrainians as well.
And to be honest all cossacks all originated from the same band of people and soon spread all around what is now south east ukraine. But during that period it was not ukraine, ukrainians resided in what is the western part of modern day ukraine.
I think any Cossack from the Zaporizhian Sich would cut you head off for calling them Ukrainian (okraiinymi lud'mi). Modern Ukraine is only trying to form the Ukrainian nation. However, this term is so new to the most of your population that I would be very careful to force it upon them.
These are Kuban Cossacks from around the Kuban river in the caucasus. Ukrainian Cossacks are also called Zaporozhian Cossacks and these are certainly not them.

Cossack is a Turkic word for "free man" or "adventurer" or as the Russians might call them Brodniki.
jstrouse 3 years ago 3
Regardless of where they came from they consider themselves RUSSIAN NOW even if they do have some songs in Ukrainian...
Anyways does anyone know the name of the first song I love it. Eastern Europeans pretty much kick ass be it Poles, Ukrainians or Russians.
