  • Wrath solo <3

  • This Blue PRS have a floating bridge ?

  • 1:04 Beastly solo!

  • These guys are definetly MASTERS OF THE GUITAR!

  • Probably my favorite lineup for Opeth.. they're still amazing though :D

  • Nice cover

  • as a BOTH :P OPETH itself is BETTER !!!! doesnt matter who is the DRUMMER or GUITARIST !!!! OPETH forever :)

  • I just listened to that solo before Mikael starts talking... I forgot about the atmosphere that they can create. Wow

  • Monster hands! Either that, or he's using an ukulele. :b

  • NÄSTAN DÅ!

  • I Really want that guitar

  • @Wuneonbakan

    Wreath, track 1 from Deliverance

  • 2:40 what song?

  • 0:15 thumbs up if you want that guitar!

  • @DzagielAreq Well in your eyes maybe.

  • @DzagielAreq Mikael said that himself. I'm not exactly wrong.

  • I Miss The Old Opeth *o*

  • I don't understand the argument the "Axe is more technical the Lopez". Does having a more aggressive, death metal style make you more technical? Lopez's compositions were scores more complex and "technical" that anything Axe has done. The word "technical" usually describes complexity, Axe's style is FAR more straight forward than Axe. Axe is the man, I love his drumming, but Lopez was definitely more "technical" as everyone likes to say.

  • I miss these days.

  • idk i love axe and i hate lopez because i can play most of lopez's drum lines there easy for the most part i cant play anything from axe <3

  • @purplewalnut89 i have that exact same problem dude!!!

like, what the fuck goes on with axe's fills??? he has a touch that i can't match, it's like imitating bonham, you don't

  • I was almost disappointed with axe (never disappointed with fredrick), I guess, until I heard Heritage. Now it's obvious he's just as good as Lopez. I don't know how many of you are drummers, but there are concepts I've heard Axe use that Lopez never even tried.

  • 02:50...how the fuck?

  • 0:42 sick

  • This is real Opeth, with Mikael and Peter playing exotic solos on USA PRS's. Rather than playing some 70's shit on gay 'signature' SE models.

  • @chezarii

So them playing the music they're more into right now automatically makes it "shit?" You are able to share an opinion without being a complete dick man.

And I'm sure PRS was more than nice as far as making those USA models available to them at a reasonable artist price back in the 1990's, so if they pay it forward by playing their "gay" SIGNATURE MODELS for a bit...I think it's a small price to pay; especially because more people are exposed to their music.

  • @chezarii Mikael Akerfeldt = the real Opeth you idiot. Heritage is a great album if you give it a fucking chance

  • It does my head in seeing/hearing people arguing about past members Vs. current members. Peter and Lopez left so now they have Freddy and Ax. It's just one of those things; you can't change it so arguing over it is totally irrelevant.

While Mikael remains at the bands core they will always be one of the best bands in the world.

  • Mikael's guitar is really sexy.

  • @timmotjo17 yeah PRS Guitars are hot....and Expensive.

  • I think fans should look at it this way: Watershed was the first album to feature Martin Axenrot and Fredrik Akesson as permanent members. They are both wonderful players. There's no denying that, no matter how long you've listened to Opeth and love Peter and Lopez. The band, as a musical unit, not really in terms of writing, needed "Watershed" to figure things out. Most bands who go through so many changes SUCK immediately. Opeth are still incredible So relax. Heritage is going to kick ass.

  • Axe is a better drummer than Lopez, or at least, in the metal sense of things. If you listen to the second riff in the leper affinity, even the studio version, lopez cant keep up the double pedal. Watch Axe do it live and he nails it. With Peter, yes his solos are well written for the most part, but because of his retarded fretting technique his solos dont have the same feel and character as Mikaels or Frederiks and he can be messy.

  • @celticwarrior222 nope, lopez is better, his influences are very different than axe, and that was the opeth which I fell in love

  • @TukiOpeth I first loved orchid and morningrise, but they have done better albums since then and got better musicians

  • @TukiOpeth I like Lopez better because he's been in a hell of a lot longer than Axe, but Axe's sick ass drumming in the second verse of Porcelain Heart for example, is just awesome.

Then again, Lopez's drumming in Wreath for example is just fucking cool.

  • @TukiOpeth nuh uh my dad can beat up you're dad!.... they're bot hawesome drummers .. i prefer axes style hes more technical but lopez is probably more of a solid drummer..overall.

  • @TukiOpeth Me too....

  • @TukiOpeth Axe actually is better.

  • @Megadedly ok, as drummer, but not for opeth

  • @TukiOpeth Ha! you're just ignorant, and you want to hear the same things over and over again. You think Opeth is something it is not. Opeth is Mikael, and he does what he wants, and what he does is great. Watershed and Heritage are amazing and very fitting. It's all just you and your mind. Martin has moved on...so has Peter, and they want nothing to do with Opeth anymore.

  • @Megadedly Ok.

  • @TukiOpeth @Megadeldy you guys got it wrong. none is better. just opinions. opeth is mikael åkerfeldt, and whatever he decides for the band, is whats best for the band. i prefer peter as guitarist, but the new album is amazinggg.

  • @DennChooch Yeah I know Mikael is the brains...I'm probably one of the biggest progressive nerds in Vancouver.

  • @Megadedly well judging by your profile and screenname i can tell you you're quite "generic" lol

  • @DennChooch Ah, well that's where you fail in judgement of character. Megadeth always has and always will be one of my favorite bands, just because I was introduced to them as a child by my father, so I think the name Megadedly is quite fitting and creative. As for my profile, it hasn't been updated in some time. As for your profile, it's beyond the pale, so you seem rather unqualified to make any such judgement of character.

  • @TukiOpeth As a long time drummer teacher. I have to say that while Lopez was fucking fantastic, Axe is quite possibly the second best drummer in the world right now (behind Gavin Harrison).

Lopez had great groove, and was good in the technical skill department.

Where as Axe's groove is beastly and is one of the most technically skilled drummers out there: listen to The Lines in My Hand. There's a reason all the Opeth guys call him the best musician they've ever played with.

  • @Megadedly He's ignorant? You know you told him "Axe actually is better" as if that's a valid argument? It's not even an argument. You can hear from early on when Lopez joined the band that the influences to the style of drumming was completely different, Lopez is way more dynamic than Axe because he brings something different to the table for each setting. Axe is a rudiments guy, he may be technically better, but he lacks creativity and intuition. Despite this, I accept Opeth for what it is.

  • @BenjaminProd Dude, when Opeth first started Mikael didn't have a drum machine to demo songs with, so Axe doesn't have much freedom when Mikael starts doing the drums in a program.

  • @Megadedly Actually, the drums have always been made freely by the drummers currently in the band... if someone didn't like something, they would say so and it would be changed. Same if Mikael had a specific part in mind, the drummer has to make it as much into that idea as he can, but usually everyone in the band has a liberty to make their own parts. Just watch all the documentaries of Opeth man, they are pretty clear about that matter.

  • @BenjaminProd No dude, Watershed and Heritage were demo'd completely by Mikael before recording, even the drums, all in Pro Tools.

  • @Megadedly First of all, Axe and Lopez are great drummers. though i have to dissagree with you altho you'll probably get your panties in a bunch like you just did on this comment. Lopez can play double bass better BUT he never performed Blast beats. the thought of blast beats in an opeth song never came around untill Opeth's '08 album: "Watershed" thats what I think Axe got on lopez i mean come on. Axe was also with Mikael in blood bath. (c)

  • @MegadedlyDon't get your panties in a bunch and say how wrong I am. its jsut matter of opinions they're BOTH GOOD DRUMMERS.

besides your just making yourself look like an idiot if you attempt to rip me a new one just for my thoughts and even more of an idiot if your gonan say how stupid or anything negitive I am like you did @TukiOpeth. so save your typing and don't get a heart attack.

  • @DoomScytheBand What? stating facts? oh wow sorry for stating facts.

  • @Megadedly Axe suck... Seriously, Lopez is the best..

  • @66EvilChuck Nah, Axe is great.

  • @Megadedly It's not ignorant to have an opinion on which era of Opeth is the best.

  • @cladny Not really, but it does mean you're maybe not a progressive fan.

  • @Megadedly you hit the nail on the head: OPETH IS MIKAEL

  • @Megadedly Hey mate! Fuck off!

  • @LyricsArFun Funny.

  • @Megadedly I wish I could find musicians to be in a band with that do things like Mikael...his influences are from all over the place and Opeth reflects that...maybe that's why the rest of the lineup is always changing.

  • @izzyalistair It changes because of musical differences, or previous commitments presenting themselves, but it Lopez case, he was just very sick. As for a good writer, find someone who can write what they feel, not just some douche buying signature guitars pretending to be somebody else.

  • @TukiOpeth

Axe is a great drummer wtf you don't even know what you're talking about. The guy does a fucking good job in Watershed in Heritage just listen to Lotus Eater and Nepenthe.

  • @celticwarrior222 Lopez had no problem with the double pedals on Lamentations and they weren't even triggered...His drumming on My Arms is still the fastest in the Opeth's collection, even with Axe doing blasts...Axe is getting really good though, starting to groove more and get looser with the hands. but Lopez just had a unique style and i'll always consider him one of my main influences.

  • @celticwarrior222: Axe is a better drummer than Lopez. But only when it comes to technique. I'd rather listen to someone who's playing with his heart more than his head. I think most of the stuff Axe is doing is awefully boring. Lopez on the other hand.. well, he grooves. He's the one with the best overall performance on "Ghost Reveries" imo. Peter obviously never had a guitar teacher and he's not a musical genius like Mikael.. but usually Mike's the one who made most mistakes (riffing-wise).

  • @celticwarrior222 what??? listen to axe's double bass live,,, and listen to masters aprentise live with lopez,, axe is not going to do what lopes did in opeth

  • @celticwarrior222 retarded fretting technique? as far as i can see he has actual proper classical fret hand technique

  • @topdog2328 he plays with his wrist sticking out which means proper feel and vibrato is hard. Plus he's playing electric guitar most of the time, why would he need to play it classically

  • @celticwarrior222 classical technique perfectly suitable for electric playing, and classical style vibrato is different than regular blues kind of vibrato that Mikael generally uses.

  • @celticwarrior222 Are you fucking kidding me?!

  • @celticwarrior222 Not in my opinion. Lopez had a very unique style, and a lot more feeling going on in his playing. Learning how to transmit something nice on a non tonal instrument like drums is something that not everyone can do, SPECIALLY when you talk about the metal scene. He's totally loose, and I even think that Axe would be better for the oldest and most brutal Opeth, and Lopez would fit a lot better in the new stuff, which have a lot more shades and stages.

  • @TutteBass Also "the metal sense of things" sounds too stiff for what Opeth is.

  • @TutteBass Maybe that "metal sense of things" he speaks off isn't so stiff as you think it is... especially when Opeth comes into the equation. I don't know.. ask him :)

  • @celticwarrior222 His fretting technique? I always knew there was something way off about Peter's playing, but I just couldn't place it.

  • @celticwarrior222 Way to be selective, dude. Deliverance has plenty of DB parts as fast or more, and it's clear he nails them.

  • what ever..opeth is a living band legend as a death metal melodic genre kinda stuff..mikael martin fredrik etc..they are all awesome great performer..why dont you guys salute and praise them instead of critisizing them..?

  • Now that Opeth isn't Death Metal anymore.. I miss Lopez even more. Axe is a great Death Metal drummer (but only in bands like Bloodbath) imo, but his "chilled" stuff is boring as hell. The thing with Peter is.. he's obviously not that technical as Fredrik, but his solos were always tasteful and the most melodious of them all. Fredrik is awesome and a really nice guy.. but Watershed is the Opeth album I like the least. Hope "Heritage" will convince me in a better way.

  • The fact that they use standard tuning just makes me happy :D

Hate the extreme down tuning -.-

  • "and still is a death metal band" not anymore =(

  • @Alejandro4891 Lol, grow up dude, Damnation had no growls. This is just one album, Heritage, and it's great, don't be so damn butt hurt, the only reason is because Mikael didn't feel they fit on Heritage.

  • @Megadedly Wrong again. Mikael himself stated that he was DONE with growls, because he had gone as far with them as he could, and now it was time to progress in a different direction. He didn't say however that he would never growl again, but I get him. He is soon 40 years old, it's hard picturing yourself on a stage growling when you are 45+.

  • @BenjaminProd Dude, I've read read everything to do with Heritage, and watched all interviews. Mikael also STATED HIMSELF that you never know, the next album could have growls, and it might not. He just didn't find it right for what Heritage was. There wont be another Heritage style record, Storm Corrosion is the last in the saga, including Grace For Drowning.

  • @Megadedly >_>...I just said "He didn't say however that he would never growl again"... and we will never know if the next album takes direction from Heritage or if it will be a completely new style. Afaik there has been no mentions of this matter. I still don't give a shit, I appreciate Opeth for what it is, and I have yet to be disappointed by any album of theirs. Different does never have to mean it's bad, it can just take something getting used to. :]

  • @BenjaminProd I'm not disappointed either, but Mikael did state on Opeth's Facebook page that Storm Corrosion is the last of the Heritage direction.

  • Peter was a wanker playing with his strings as he tries to record I'd kick him out of the band like Mike did then I'd punch him :Lk

  • @wownov83 No humor I assume?

  • @wownov83 Yeah, Mikael looked very angry.. :|

  • hmmm, Åkerfelt said "we are a deathmetal band". Sure I really agree. 100%. But for me, they are still a very progressive band. So, Proggressive Death Metal? :)

(Reply and discuss what you think)

  • @UsingMetal My reply is that you shouldn't try to put a label on one of the most incredible bands ever. Opeth's genre has just one band in: Opeth.

But don't take it so serious, you've raised an important question.

  • @fwfwfw Except that I'd lump them in as the same genre of Buckethead's, Cynic's, and Devin Townsend's music. Doesn't need a name. It's the genre when people combine the soft with the heavy without sacrificing the integrity of either (for example, they never come off as "gay", but they never come off as trying to sound tough.) Listen to Devin Townsend's new "Deconstruction" album or Cynic's "Focus". Mikael Akerfeldt and the singer of Cynic are even on Devin Townsend's "Deconstruction"!

  • vad säger han vid 4:30

  • @MrAxIMetal låter som han säger ''nästan da!'' x)

  • At 5:15 I was like: "Well, at least I'm better at playing air guitar than Mikael..."

  • Duncans, a great choice...no wonder they have such a great tone :D

  • Deliverance is by far one of the most epic albums of all time

  • I seymour duncans :)

  • 1:47

*Mikael plays godly solo while looking bored*

    /envy

  • Mikael wants walnuts.

  • To me Wreath is the only Opeth song I get tired of. By about 11 minutes I just want it to end. Even Black Rose Immortal doesn't do that to me.

  • what an absolut master piece of album

  • 2:16 lol

  • Fancy pinch harmonic haha.

  • Ah Peter Peter Peter, where did it all go wrong lad????

Michael should have mentored Peters song-writing a bit more I reckon

  • It's kinda odd that Mikael rarely uses his pinky. It looks like gone dead. :D But anyway.. they're solos kick ass! I miss Peter but Fredrick's solos are pretty damn awesome as well!

  • The first solo is so fucking hard to play :D

  • I wonder what Peter is doing these days.

  • @Deathshuck He's an IT consultant. YES REALLY.

  • @Daaaniellaaa XD Ok, thanks for the info.

  • @Daaaniellaaa Did he take part in the making of Magicka? There is a graveyard in that game where on the tombstones are the names of the makers, and on one of them reads "Peter Lindgren"...

  • @Benteiron I really wouldn't know. It's not like I know him or anything. That he's an IT consultant is just on Wikipedia, lol. In the Magicka credits though, it says someone named "Peter Lindgren" did programming. Now, I wouldn't call someone who does programming an "IT consultant". But that could be just me.

To make a long story short: I don't know, but I don't really think so.

  • que wea mas buena por la xuxa ... ya quiero grabar un disco

  • peter's solo on wreath is so amazing

  • Sometimes I get the feeling that just by looking at the front cover of Opeth's albums somehow sets the tone of how the albums going to feel and sound. And I'm hearing a lot of people not really liking the Watershed album. I could care less. I think it was an awesome album! IMO, the album cover depicts a man all alone in a dark room, and maybe perhaps reading or plotting something. Maybe a lot of things are going in his mind, hence the way sound in the album. You never know what happens next

  • unfortunately I never got to see the best opeth line-up live. seen them 3 times, and every time it's been axe and fredrik. axe is great but he is not a touch on lopez, and as for fredrik... he is just not in the right band. everything has to be tremolo all the time, there is no concept of the notion that less is more! most frustrating

  • am i the only one that likes axe better than lopez.

  • @joviallaban

I like Axe's sound better, but Lopez came up with a lot of great stuff. Still, Watershed is Axe's first album in Opeth, so he still has time to amaze us... :D

  • watershed was amazing and brilliant. noone can say that the bassoon wasnt the coolest thing ever for a metal song. As long as its new, fresh, exciting, wonderful, im happy with it full on. Who cares if its not the same as previous albums, they shouldnt be the same, things need to grow and evolve and this was such an interesting step in the right direction. Heir apparent and Hessian peel my all time favourites by far

  • @zone1480 old bitch.

  • What's the first song Åkerfeldt plays?

  • @TFIFH Wreath :P

  • song at 1:07?

  • @AggieKong92 Wreath

  • @TukiOpeth Thanks!

  • @AggieKong92 Wreath, the first song off of Deliverance, if you don't know that, you should listen to the whole album (at least 2 or 3 times... or enough to learn every piece of that album) before you watch the solos from it.

  • Where can I get this video from? Also man, you should play your bass in New Zealand so you and me could make an opeth influenced band! cmon over man :)

  • i love mikes guitar

  • Wow. I miss Peter. Not as much as Lopez because he's harder to replace, but still :(

  • exactly my mind set. Together they acomplished Ghost Reveries. Which is an album that has definetly changed my life. They arent as 'opeth' as they were. I am still awating the next album though. But I hope its beyond watershed. Because I really dont listen to watershed as mush as the others. I know alot of people love that album. But for me its basically my lest favorite :(

  • I'm just surprised that some of the ppl out there wouldn't recognize a guitar even if it hit'em in the face!

  • @scythelog To me, I listen to Opeth in the now, so to speak. I try to adapt. But i definantely see how you think they've changed, because they have. But Watershed was a descent album.

  • @coolisfool i know what you mean, fredrik and axe aren't bad players at all but peter and especially lopez gave that band a sort of depth and atmosphere that just wasn't there on watershed. people always downplay peter's departure b/c mikael wrote mostly everything, but peter had some amazing solos and him a mikael complimented each other perfectly

  • @Psychiatric91 I see what you mean by "this atmosphere". The reason I love Opeth so much is because of this atmosphere in Still Life or My Arms, Your Hearse but they totally lost it in songs like Porcelain Heart or stuff in Reveries...

  • @stereonpl11 exactly, all the albums you mentioned in there are classics. I actually loved Ghost Reveries though; that one seemed to rub people the wrong way for whatever reason but that's probably my favorite. The funny thing about Opeth is watershed is their weakest album but it was one of the better albums of 2008

  • @Psychiatric91 I don't really like Watershed, it's probably the only album from Opeth I dislike. It just doesn't catch me as the other albums did. Yet I think this album has positive points.

  • @Psychiatric91 yeah;I see your point the previous albums were like open for almost any kind of interpretation inducing you to imagine yourself everything related to them;Watershed may have been just another shape of Opeth's beauty;musically the albums is brilliant wich can not be more than excitng and pleasing.I say they've dugg just as deep inside the art of their work but in a more direct approach than of the last records; We shall wait for the next upcoming record to see what it has to offer

  • @Psychiatric91

dirge for november, one of my favorite opeth songs, alongside others, belong to Peter.

  • @Psychiatric91 I gotta agree there. I've loved Opeth ever since I got Blackwater Park, and if you compare the stuff on that or Still Life, Watershed does sound a bit weak. I don't think it was anything to do with the lineup because Ghost Reveries is still pretty good. Watershed does lack 'something' whatever that is...

  • @Psychiatric91 Watershed definitely had atmosphere. Not the kind of atmosphere you get when you hear Blackwater Park for example. But Watershed is one of those albums that take you into a new world. It is a dark and melodic atmospheric sound that...... well basically with Watershed, when you're listening to it (especially Porcelain Heart, you feel like you standing right behind the man at the desk on the album art. Watershed is my personal favorite album mostly for this reason. Still Life, 2nd.

  • @coolisfool Word.

  • @coolisfool i think Axl is an amazing drummer. he's not Lopez, but he's capable. I do however think Peter should've stayed, though he had his reasons. Fredrik just doesn't fit in...

  • what song is mikael playing at 0.38 ???

  • he's playing the second Solo of Deliverance...I mean he's trying to pull off a solo to that part

  • holy crap 0:41

  • what is the song on

    2:20

  • Wreath

  • 5:18 Now that's the best air guitar in a long time! :D

  • 2:18

I want someone to help me with my pinch harmonics too =D

  • start to fret on 2 or 3 what he does

and than put your finger on one of the high frets

  • Yeah, thanks. I've been playing acoustic guitar for quite some time but just bought an electric one, too. I guess I'll get a hang of it.

  • sure

    enjoy.

  • Well it seems it's just a harmonic, and the only clear harmonics you can get up high on the frets is 12 and 17 :P

  • thats not a pinch, its a tapped harmonic

you tap the fret an octave (12 frets) above the one you're fretting

  • verga

    que chingon es mikael

  • efectivamente carnal

  • mikael's solo on the song deliverance is really great!

  • I can play that ;D

Took a month to learn since I'm not a very good player, but I got it down. I get chills every time I hit the bending 17 on the high E.
