OK this train seems a little messed up...soo theres one regular diesel, one genesis diesel, one surfliner car, one superliner car, a baggage car, and two other coach cars. ???

@g3or3sistor. this train in going to Beech Grove IN were Amtrak's shop's are. This is bascially a normal consisit except for maybe the Sufliner. Only the last two coaches were occupied by passengers. Everything else (p-42, surfliner, and the superliner) are all going to Beech Grove for repairs. Once those are cut off, the train will likely be turned back around with the B-32, the buffer car, and coaches and make a trip back north again.

The CZ used to carry coast to coast sleepers years ago. It was funny to see pictures of C&O and New York Central cars on the back of the train. In service! The best one was the New York Penn Station-Mexico City sleeper via PRR-MoPac-NdeM. There also was a sleeper to Havanna Cuba via ACL's Havanna Special-FEC oversea's railroad to Key West. Then ship and Cuban railways. To Havanna what a ride!

A great video. Five Stars! Too bad the Surfliner car was just deadheading and not carrying passengers. I used to ride the Horizons between Toronto and Chicago when Superliners weren't being used on the International. 13 to 15 hours in those seats are hard on your back. I rode on a train from Chicago to Seattle carrying Sounder cars. You just never know what will show up.

The skinny: The Hoosier State normally runs with a P42, the bag car, and two Horizons. HOWEVER, The Hoosier is used as Amtrak's "Shuttle Train" between the Beech Grove shops and the rest of the system Via Chicago, so cars and engines going for or coming from heavy repair or overhaul (As in the case of the Surfliner car here) often deadhead on the Hoosier. Sometimes the train is just the P42-Bag-Coach-coach, but occasionally I've seen five locos and two cars, or once one loco and 16 cars.

Nice, first you get a Dash 8 in front of a P42, and on the same train you have a surfliner car!!! And it's all in Dyer Indiana, you must have really good luck. I've lived in Munster for almost 15 years, and I've never seen that before.
