1. The bang was: A. A nearby door bursting open. A shadowy figure appears. The Speaker blacks out and awakes somewhere new.
B. Some kind of chemical explosion, resulting in super powers for the speaker.
C. ...This setting sounds like some kind of laboratory test center gone wrong.. They were probably experimenting on walruses. The bang was obviously a super-smart/talking/flying walrus escaping through the ventilation system.
2. I missed your face! I think I've said that before.
That was the sound of the character being hit by the truck. I think every chapter in our novel should end with "And then they were hit by the truck."
