It wouldn't surprise me if the video of him performing here is film of the actual recording off of the album... Vangelis' style of composing is very intuitive based off of a system he developed which supposedly eliminates the writing portion of music composition. won't work for everyone but an interesting take!

He does not write music before performing it, he simply records the music in real time. Of course the work he does with orchestras requires extra attention, but his system involves a custom set-up which allows him to just play and record. This is how he creates his music.

@yearofox He dont compose writing, he compose IN HIS MIND thewhole song & go straigh torecord it. Thats not an invention of his. A LOTof people do it,. When I read about his "composition Method", it sound like he havesome special unique method invented by him or something like that. Besides the fact that he compose that way, are yousure that que phrase his "composition Method", does not means other different thing, like a formula, the order inwhich he compose, a ramdon selection of melodies,etc?

Sometimes I think that the performances shown on this video could be the real recording takes included on the final mix of "The Dragon" theme, and not just played for to make the videoclip.

It is very curious to see together the ARP ProSoloists (two of them) and the Yamaha CS-80. Most of his pre-CS-80 brass sounds (Heaven & Hell, La Fete Sauvage) was produced with the ProSoloist, an incredible solo synth from ARP, with after-touch (from 1971 !!)

Yes. That's great publicity for the manufacturer, but when you own a shop and pay for the stock and someone comes in and takes equipment for weeks on end, pays you nothing for your trouble and doesn't even credit you on the album sleeve........come on!

Vangelis is a genius. While there are other great ones like Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, etc I think Vangelis is the best as well, and certainly my favorite electronic composer in all of the world.
