Mr. Plant has, in my estimation, the finest male singing voice of all time. I LOVE that African stringed instrument, just as I love country fiddle, which sounds a lot like it.
Only poor and heartbroken people should sing the blues...and Plant should get his voice back from the very early 70's...This is really not how I wanna see him...
Check out Eric Clapton's live TV version from 1999, Sugar Blue in Switzerland 1995, Muddy Waters himself with Jr. Wells & Buddy Guy 1974, all much superior. Also, Eric Burdon 1978/79 live in Holland.
This is not a good version of this song. The intensity isn't there that is needed. The are groovin' like they are playing jazz, but they don't play it jazzy. I would blame the guitar player, he wouldn't jam hard or open up the harmonies, he just played. I would say the best aspect of this version is that (middle?) eastern string instrument, all in all just not a good song choice for this particular group.
In reading some of the comments - I'm thinking - all painters - when painting a bird - paint differently, but it's still a bird. The artist's perspective is just that - their perspective - how did our world get to have sooooo many critics and judges.
@japooda56 you're so right man... we are full of experts in all aspects of our lives, and ppl learn to follow this stereotypes/fashions/trends/whatever the experts say...
It's unfortunate at least, and even more when ppl follow these shit blindly and then reproduce what they've heard and posing as experts themselves as well.
And lets not forget the writer...the incredible Willie Dixion who played bass for both Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf....He also wrote..Backdoor Man..Seventh Son..Spoonful and many others!!
This is terrible. Muddy Waters does the best on this obviously, but check out Buddy Guy as well. He does a great version. Clapton's is alright, but not on the level of those 2.

@flatpickjohnny someone's a bit unhappy with their situation, Robert Plant has afforded the privilege of never cutting his hair or getting a job!

If you don't like this version, it says more about you than it does Robert Plant. This is inspired performing, uh, as you'd expect.

He's not what he used to be but hey man, respect. And it's a tribute to Muddy Waters, everything that song is sung in concert.

Why did he finally sing that song? Miles away from the King Muddy Waters...Great mistake for Robert Plant, great mistake!
