This is not the right kind of audience to perform in front of. The crowd looked like the crowd was attending some boring college lecture instead of a concert. But then again, this was the early 80s and hip hop was still young and new back then.
No disrespect to New Edition, but the Force MDs were the Boyz II Men of the 80s. They mixed hip hop and soul prefectly with their Staten Island Doo Wop sound with harmony and the street choreography.
Check out the funky white boy getting down at 1:37.. lol Thats what im talking about! Fuck if the crowd is dead.. if you feel the music then get down with your bad self!
this brings tears to my eyes/ this is how hip hop became the force it is/ by going overseas and around the world performing for all kinds of people u could not stop greatness/ god bless the force/CC4/FANTASTIC/FURIOUS/BAMABATTA/FUNKY4/WHODINI and allothers i forgot 2 name also check out GRANDMASTA VIC the creator of R&B and hip hop blends from 1983 till now the greatest dj I have ever heard
....These Boys Were The "SHIZIT" Back In The 80's, This Was My Song -Kinda Weird How It Just Came To Mind, And I Thought I Was Imagining it Since i Hadn't Heard It In A Lifetime....I Checked iTunes For Instant Gratification, And Like Always It Was UNAVAILABLE...The Force MD'S Were Bad...They Had Been Discovered On The Staten Island Ferry...I Really Wish They'd Had Of Held On. Despite The LOSS Of At Least 2 Members...All These Boys Were Able To Blow, 112 Comes Close To Them But NOT Quite.....
If they would,ve done this song say like at the Apollo or Beacon the crowd will not be as dead, there would,ve been mad love as well as energy, the crowds will go crazy.
@dcflava74 The crowd isn't dead, they're just paying attention! That's just the way it was back then. I can tell you liked this group a whole lot! It's a shame that they can never get together. I miss this music...
So great to see one of the best"doo-wop" groups EVER!! I had the privelege to work with Jessie D back in 1988 when he was working on a solo career,I was one of the "fly- girls." Man, really takes me back to the day! God bless!
Man... these brothas were on point! Still are, as a matter of fact. Most of today's "singers" and "groups" wouldn't know the first thing about pulling off a show like this on their own talents.
Yeah... especially being completely surrounded by the audience and lacking a lot of props and spectacle. Having to depend entirely on their own merit.
besides the temptations, the force mds is one of the groups that could sing Live without music. watch the 7 minute interview titled the legendary force mds 2009 where they four classics in the middle of their interview acapella like tears, forgive me girl, tender love, and let me love you. these dudes could whoop them autotuning fools out the box with their harmonies, comedy impressions, and emcee skills.
I am going to keep it 100....The Force MDs are one of the most under rated groups of all time...If you want to talk about all around talent, this group had it...Their vocals all came together to create some unbelievable music...Although Jessie and TC led on most of the songs, the other members completed this group...My favorite group of all time, and I am only 22 years old...Whoever I decide to marry will have to deal with the fact that there will be many Force MD songs played at the reception
Peace to The Force MD's. I had the pleasure to DJ for Mercury(R.I.P.) and Stevie D, in the Bronx at Echo Park, for Trouble's Zulu Nation's Retirement Party. Dr. Rock didn't show up and I was the dj (Cut Creator Web) for the Talented Two MC's. That was around '83 or '84. I've lost touch with them, so I hope they're fine and well. Great group and some real cool brothers. Mercury was a deep brother, and good friend. R.I.P. brother Mercury. Much LOVE and Respect to the Force MD's.
i am banging their music hard now like a muthafucka. ive been hunting a lot of songs from them. i need to get access to their last album called the reunion which was back in 2000. the members on that album were jessie d, stevie d, khalil, and trisco. i read on amazon that tc recorded a song on that album before he passed away. that album was dedicated to the memories of dr rock, mercury, and tc.
I had the pleasure of seeing them in Concert with New Edition at the Opera House in Boston in the 80's these guys were the real deal. Sad that two of the original members died ( not drug related deaths either.)One from a heart attack and the other from lou gherigs disease. I still blast their music only now its on my ipod instead of my boombox !!
HUGE fan of Force MDs...I was born in 86 so I unfortunately don't get the pleasure of great memories of this music....Can someone please list the members names from left to right in the line they are standing in...It would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks for the answer...Since I posted this 2 months ago I was able to do my own research and figure out who each one was, but thank you for your assistance anyways...Glad to see another Force MDs fan
I've been looking for this performance. Love the faces in the background. lol Everybody looks so scared to even move. "Wave your hands in the air!" ...they were like what? who? Us?...lol
Where did they perform this,it s definitely not the US,let alone NYC.They do look a bit parinoid and scared and hum drum, this got to be in Europe. The too black sound is really getting to them eh,lol. But Force Md rock here.
the first New Edition I see where they got thier style from now back than from the Forec MDs I am sorry but they looked jack up back before they got a little bit of money T.C teeth missing.
Force MDS may have come out after New Edition, but the styles were alot different. Force MD's were a few years older and more expierenced, but their strong Hip-Hop sounds made them less marketable to the mainstream (remember that this is 1984). New Edition was more pop oreinted and younger (close to the Jackson 5) and had to be molded (which made them more of superstars). Both groups got shitted on early in the business and worked with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis later on in their careers.
New Edition were in High School when they came out in 1983, but most of them looked like they were in the 5th grade (lol). Alot of them just matured slower (Bobby and Ralph for e.g.), and PR brought their ages down a bit (kind of like the Jackson 5 did when they first stated). On an episode on Soul Train in early 1984, after they performed "Candy Girl", they told Don Cornelius their true age. Force MD's were in their late teens and early 20's when they came out in 1983/84.
