I watched this 35 years ago and never forgot it.Then when I saw it here I couldn't believe my good luck and watched all 10 segments .It was as good (If not better) than the first time. Thanks Redshift313 fo uploading this.
nice movie, but I want to tell to all the view of this movie. I will ask when reach the time 3:35 return your mind to the beggining when the white guy was put like indian rabit. The moral message as Cristian Catholic. Evil never is going to stop to do anything to destroy our spirituality, our good behavior, walk thru the salvacion, do good things and love to Yavhe (Jesucristo) with all our heart, soul and mind.
I well remember seeing this movie (and loving it!) and hearing Cornell Wilde being interviewed about the making of the movie. He said he really ate the raw snake and the snail. He was starving himself so he'd be able to do it! He obviously lost some weight during the filming. This was originally supposed to be set in the Old West with the famous run of the arrow. However, Wilde bought the rights and changed it to south Africa.
Wow! This was amazing with a capital A! And yes, the part from 5:03 to 5:10 is a fantastic display of mutual, if grudging, admiration between both men.
I watched this movie as a youngster and I remember thinking why would he let that little girl run back to that burnt out village. She didn't have a weapon or food and water but I forgot, she grew up in that wilderness. Survival for her would be much easier than for Cornel's character plus its very possible some of her people survived the attack from the slave traders. Thanks for Posting Redshift!
I remember when I seen this back in the 70's -- and there was a scene where he ate a snail! --- I had to look it up at the time (in my biology book) and he ate a Schistosoma japonicum -- edible; but still -- yak!
@CrispinFlora FYI - Schistosoma japonicum isn't the name of a snail, it's the name of the parasite that causes schistosomiasis, and is transmitted through snails. It is possible that he would risk infection by eating a raw snail.
Grew up on this one but it still the same old genre... euro-peon lone white adventurer with his humanity intact, al la Tarzan and the Apes, conquering a one-dimensional, demonized cast of thousands.
@JimmyJump4xweek I don't think they were demonized at all. I think if anything the hunters were very human, kind of dragged into the hunt by a single man's grief and rage.
Another amazing scene was how the little girl knew it was time to go back no matter how dangerous it was...and great acting by Mr. Wilde's character to let her go without trying to keep Her with Him. Even thought they were together for a short period, great chemistry between the two actors...I found the little girl adorable, I wonder what ever happened to the little girl who played Her part(Miss Bella Randles)?
The intensity of this movie is amazing, don't know of another film that portrays the way the law of the jungle prevails, the strongest survive, sometimes the most ruthless.
wow my dad bought me the vhs way in the 90s and this would be the first time ive seen it since. thank you it is truly a great film

Sure has a lot of black on black violence, and a white man getting hunted by and saved by black people.

One of the most outstanding movies I've ever seen. 5:04 is the best part, you can tell they're both saying " Good chase" without using words.
