Lee Van Cleef stands helpless, ruing the lack of justice in the world. And then justice arrives in the shape of Clint Eastwood and an 1866 Winchester rifle. This is a spiritual movie moment, in the most unlooked for of places.
Absolutely loved this movie. My favorite of all the Westerns. Best score and best story. Sixty Seconds to What is a timeless classic. Clint and Lee Van Cleef were complete badasses and Volante played such a great bad guy.

It's a beautiful song called "The Ecstasy of Gold" which plays when they are running around the graveyard looking for the unmarked grave of Arch Stanton. That is the highlight of Good Bad and Ugly--as well as some other fine songs.
@GDEASTON123 I completely agree with you but I have to say that, for me, the last 10 minutes of The Good, The Bad And The Ugly are simply a masterpiece, for the performance of the actors, the setting, and of course, the legendary Ennio Morriconne's ''Il Triello''. Cheers!

fantastic acting and directing. the way the duel starts.indio so confident, he has the advantage and he knows he is going to win and the colonel hopeless and disappointed that he cannot avenge the death of his sister.an d the second part after the colonel gets the gun.we have the colonel very confident and indio on the other side scared, hopeless and breathing hard because he knows that the colonel is a much better shooter than he is.absolutely epic turn of events.BRAVO to the cast and directors
The expression on Van's face in that small fraction where he realizes that he is "safe" but that he still has a job to do, that semi "smile" it's brilliant, I can't imagine a better reaction, ahhh, (my cat doesn't understand)
@MrNoobophile No doubt it was amazing, but the almost tearful expression he makes right after his character realizes he wasn't carrying his watch anymore really got my attention up there at 1:15. Very subtle, though.
@MrNoobophile said "The expression on Van's face in that small fraction where he realizes that he is "safe" but that he still has a job to do, that semi "smile" it's brilliant, I can't imagine a better reaction, ahhh, (my cat doesn't understand)"
@MrStathis77 Yes, he did cut the scene short, Clint raises his eye brows when LVC twirls his gun before holstering it - as if to say "Hey, ah, Colonel, that's my move....!
Note at 1:40 the hammer on Clint's Henry rifle is fully cocked back....one false twitch Indio and your a goner...........and I wonder where that Henry is these days.....
A stunning ending. The bully who doesn't like a level playing field and uses time to make his victims suffer becomes a victim of it-the living , breathing guardian angel, No better comuppance in movie history..
@TheForgottenPanzer This final end scene was on here before with over 1,000,000 views before they took it down - some copyright issues was given as the reason. We'll see how long this one lasts....
Fact: even though he only knew Italian, Gian Maria Volante did his own voice for the English language version of this. He needed a translator to tell him what he was saying.
Where the fuck's Lucy Liu when you need her? I told her to bring the washing in cos' it looks like rain ...but Oh No... gotta go out hacking and slaying like there's no tomorrow. Well don't come moaning to me when yer Cheongsam goes all mouldy!

I think this is one of the best scenes in cinema period and the movie itself one of the best. Van Cleef's acting is superb, all his hatred and rage and despair is practically screamed without his having to even utter a single word. And the emotion of the scene goes from anguish to triumph as the first watch is echoed by the second. The same music, two different emotions. Phenomenal direction, phenomenal acting, phenomenal music, phenomenal film.
@xiquiripat Agreed, it's one of my all-time favourite scenes too. Just love the bit where Indio sneaks his hand toward his gun and Clint points the Winchester at him, shaking his head. Then he lends the Colonel his own revolver to level the odds, NOW we fight. Justice is served. :)
@rohansrider I go around now in SoHo and Savile Row, desperately looking for a pair of El Indio bell bottom jeans and a top coat like Mortimer"s.....can't find em anywhere!
44 caliber blew up the liver, very realistic and horrible. Its like they had seen the actual thing and they had rehersed it. Why they used the same circle twice for duel in this movie and good/bad/ugly? How many times they killed this same guy?
@healer378 The final duels were filmed in 3 different locales. The final duel in TGTBTU was filmed up in northern Spain near Burgos, the final duel in FAFDM was filmed in southern Spain near Almeria. Leone often cast the same guys in different roles.
This is the best movie of Eastwood's spaghetti westerns in my opinion. And one of the best western's of all time. Lee Van Cleef was awesome in this!
Best final duel scene out of all the Western's. The only one that comes close for me was the final duel in 'The Mercenary' with Franco Nero, Jack Palance, etc..
I chose to do this very scene for an essay at College, i got an awesome grade aswell i am addicted to this scene. Clint Eastwood is the best actor ever and up there with the best directors too !
There is a great saying in writing less is more and this scene shows it. This final duel is 4 mins and 21 seconds or the equivalent to 4 pages of script but Sergio Leone has only five lines using 13 words. The rest is the director allowing the actors to actually act and convey the emotion of the scene. The music hightens the tension and draws the audience in. That is why this film is a classic and stands the test of time.

44 caliber blew up the liver, very realistic and horrible. Its like they had seen the actual thing and they had rehersed it. Why they used the same circle twice for duel in this movie and good/bad/ugly? How many times they killed this same guy?
healer378 3 months ago

@skinamarinky22
it's funny that the budget of such movies was extremely low.
This one was made only for $600,000, A fistful of dollars was made for $200.000 (truly a fistful of dollars)
Budget of today's crappy movie such as Avatar is aprox 237 000 000 (thousand times more!!!)
