  • I heard that this version of PiL is a group of wedding musicians who knew the Pistols catalog by heart. Is this true?

  • it's really Public image Limited or it's the Sex Pistols ???

  • even sid had the right to sing this fucking song if he wanted because he was part of the pistols. freedom to do what the fuck you like

  • @oasis4ever92 But Sid's dead and never contributed much to the band's actual music.

  • @obvious4chanuser i dont quite see how that is linked to what i said...

  • Any Pistols should have the right to play one of their songs live...

  • but... lacks to the punch! from the sex pistols

  • Sorry Jonny. Have a nice day.

  • Yeah, jonny you could have done better. YUP "neVer mInD the BullOks" was the nadir of the Sex Pistols, and "Flowers of Romance" was the bests of PIL.

  • @Subadai111 naw man metal box

  • Sounds better than the Pistols reunion. John could still belt it out at this point.

  • @NeutronZapper i totallt agree...he atleast sounds somewhat similar to the pistols, but the pistols reunion wasn't very great.

  • are you kidding me? glen was a really good bassist but when he left they got a guy named sid to stand on the stage with a bass and pretend to play it and steve had just started playing the guitar. they were creative but not good musicians they just had a different sound than any1 else.

  • its the other way around

  • They are not a band they are a company Lol

  • haha

  • lol no they were not

  • I prefer the version of the Sex Pistols :S

  • shit! what a `pianoooo!! hahaha,! i'm from argentina, i love sex pistolss (L an PiL

  • It seems it is impossible for some to love both the Pistols and PiL at the same time. I myself love both, maybe PiL a little bit more.

  • The piano HAS TO GO!

  • kill the band!!! KILL THE BAND!!!!

  • what the? :S

  • Hahaha, he's so fucking drunk. Still great though.

  • "It's weird. 'Public Image Ltd' play this song so much better than 'The Sex Pistols', but Johnny doesn't sing it as well. :/

Plus, when he performs with 'Public Image Ltd', he looks too happy to be 'Rotten'. Maybe I preferred him as a miserable wanker?"

  • well he dident want to be rotten in pil thats why he used his real name lydon...and fuck no pil doesent play anarchy better...they have kerybords and dont play with the anger the pistols did...pils sounds like the brady bunch doing anarchy

  • Not bad, looks like its from the mid-1980s? I just hope the old punk icons can age gracefully though. I mean, can you imagine john lydon doing this song as part of a lounge act in front of a bunch of old people in say, vegas? How about a duet w/ Tom Jones?

  • You haven't been watching, have you?

Pink hair and pajamas. A least Joe grew up (while not loosing any passion for the music). Claiming to be all rebel while being all chummy with Ron Paul.

  • a cover of his own band...i think, this is okay^^

  • teah, I agree !Johnny IS Johnny, thats it, and we everybody get older, thats it! haha, wonder how many can make something good after the best! Johnny CAN! lol !

  • lol johnny so so hot when he was younger! ^^ and even hotter when he looks angry in the vid rise ^^

  • Even PIL was so diffrent than SEX PISTOLS T H E SONG FEELS RIGHT!

  • yeh i agrree!! still johnny lydon <3 him for ever :D

  • I like PiL.

    I like the Pistols too.

But keep yr. Pistols outta my PiL. ;-)

  • now this is rotton at his best! not like that crap he spews with pil

  • umm not. lol rotten is always at his best, lol only bad thing is he has gotten to goofy. lol he was seriouse and funny then he was seriouse now he is just kinda off.. lol

  • yeh rotten is always at his best, love him always.....lol the butter commercials always make me laugh, but his nature progs were reli good, btu PiL and the Sex Pistols were the best :P

  • He mixed up the chorus but it still kick ass hahaha SEX PISTOLS forever

This Version is faster so that means its more Punk than the others hahaha

  • ? hahaha how do you say something is more punk lol

  • Yeah that's not a cover.

But he said "i will never sing a sex pistols song with PIL".

Probably he ended money at the time of this video.

PIL were something completely different from Sex Pistols.

  • Its not a cover! Johnny Rotten wrote and originally performed it...its not his fault what happened to the Sex Pistols

  • It doesnt matter, the sex pistols were going to end anyway, regardless of sid or malcome, johnny just wrote the entire first PiL album on the American tour, but no one liked it except sid, they were tired of the whole punk scene, jon stopped the clothes pins and sid stated wearing cloth jackets not leather. Him and sid were going forward while Paul and Steve wanted to regress.. so the pistols would have ended any way lol

  • I could see that, I mean who would want to live their entire life dedicated to trying to be a certain image or style. Maybe that is where they got the name from.

    "Public Image Limited"

  • thats partially correct, john got the name from a book he read

  • THAT'S ONLY WAY TO ME

  • I would rather anarchy in Debrecen.

    Please,gimme.

  • Shame on John to have sung this song with PIL.

    PiL not deserved it.

  • do you want my credit card number?

  • haha that is the sex pistols !!!

  • no thats john lydons other band P.I.L.

  • are you nuts?????????

  • sex pistols jonhs other band was so much better

  • Tired out fucking wanker, celbrity shows and half witted adverts next.....

  • britain is that way

  • en ke año fue eso

  • Fué mas o menos como por 1986-1987

  • he said that Anarchy in the UK was an attack, not a song. i like the way he does these things.

  • By his own criteria, this is like... Aristotles law of non contradiction. He must feel like shit selling out here.

  • yes yes yes. I fucking love this performance, esp. the piano bit. what did you expect from johnny? I love this ironic rendition and how it annoys people who place the pistols on some kind of pedestal. If you don't get it, then oh well.

  • PiL was true art... but just stay away from pistol tracks....

  • I find it funny that on EVERY PiL video on youtube there are always people who love the sex pistols and hate pil complaining about how much PiL sucks.

  • because it is so fockin' true.

  • Not really. PiL is far more talented. And its "fucking" not "fockin"

  • Pil sucks.and don't you tel ME how to write fockin', better get some sleep.

  • pil rule, fuck you, there first album 'cover' rocks

  • oh, well fuck you!what would pil be without rotten?nothing

  • fuck fuck fuck fucking hate pil

    love only pistols

    what is this? piano?AAAAAAAAAAAAAAa

  • Both are great in my opinion.

  • It's funny, unlike his days with the Pistols, he actually tried to sing it here unlike the raunchy vocals he's known for with the Pistols.

  • reminds me of how he sings today except he's older and kinda does that thing that sounds a bit like a sheep baa-a-aing or whatever he's still awesome though

  • But this vocal performance lacks the energy and anger that was presented during the Pistols days...

  • Yeah, and that takes away the awesomeness of the song. It was meant to represent anger. Then again, I don't think Johnny had as much anger here like he did with the Pistols.

  • looking for a good time tonight on cam! i need to unwind - anyone up? A

  • fuckin sad went back on everything he said and stood for dreadful cabaret shite

  • ITS CALLED OLD AGE,

  • sign me up

  • a little ironic haha it says cover of the sexpistols but the singer is from the sexpistols and wrote it so it's exsholy (sorry about the bad english) ah song by john lydon :P

  • if you wrote 'Anarchy in the UK', wouldn't you want to play it? He probably had a lot of fun doing it, nothing wrong with that. It must have been surreal hearing this after 'Death Disco' and 'Flowers of Romance.'

  • i was just under the impression he wanted nothing to do with the pistols when he was with pil

  • yeah thats what he said and use to walk off interviews when he got asked about the pistols also said not in a million yrs he would play with them again...hes become everything he was against..sex pistols my fav band but nothing beats the 76,77,78 pistols..its all about the money now

  • and thats a reality most ppl dont want to accept including me, man i wish they would go backto the way they where be4, at least they didnt sell out publicly w/ shitty new songs like metalica did.

  • im surprised johny wanted to do these songs again, i thought he wanted to forget all about the pistols when he was in pil

  • johnny is awsum!

  • I'm not sure why people are calling this "watered down". I mean, let's be honest, there are actually MUSICIANS in the band this time around, no?

  • calling steve jones, glen matlock and paul cook not musicians??? steve is one of the best guitarist ever, glen is a oustanding bassist and guitarist..paul is one of the best rock drummers of all time. i dont know how you cant say their not..

  • All this does, is show how full of shit people like Lydon really are. They're great at the time when they come along and apparently 'revolutionise' the music scene-but once their 15 minutes of fame is up, they do what all the others do-form a wanky little band and rely on playing watered down versions of their previous bands songs from a different era. Pistols were pure rock'n'roll and fuckin awesome, but Lydon sold out to everything he ever protested against. He's a talentless ginger bellend.

  • Not really oneriffpony,

This was during the early PIL years which was a totally different group that purposely moved away from the image of the sex pistols (and rock and roll in general). This cover is more than a bit ironic . Look up the album Metal Box

  • keyboards , what the fuck is he at here ?

  • Lydon has talked about re-forming PIL. I hope so, I prefer them to the Sex Pistols.

  • it was ok... but it sounds (instrument wise) COMPLETELY AWFUL. omg its horrible, and hes incorperating his PiL like high pitched voice into this and the tours he has done recently

  • Can we really say it is a cover?

  • still good.. fuck you all?

  • IS THIS THE DISCO VERSION?

  • This version is at least as good as Sex Pistols version. :)

  • john lydon has a right to make a cover of it

    because he wrote the song

  • That piano makes this version sound like one of those cheap MIDI backing tracks someone created in their basement and posted to the web. Real Rinky Dink. Mr. Lydon does a much better job singing this song nowadays.

  • he did it in the wrong order and it only sounds good with the pistols

  • I wouldn´t say this is a cover

  • this song is really kind of week

  • this sounds really pop not as mutch punk as he did it with the pistols

  • Come ppl to Serbia on EXIT Fest to see Sex Pistols live on 13.july.I can't wait :)

  • why the fuck would i go to that bloody country didnt the serbian gov kill up to 500 000 innocent people?

  • Go fuck urself stupid balija.

You muslims are pusies, and thats why we kill so many of your pussy chicken ppl.You dont have balls to fight.

    LONG LIVE SERBIA

I was on EXIT FEST in SERBIA and Pistols have realy awesome concert.

ppl search: exit fest 08 sex pistols

  • k

    .

  • fair point if a little racist

  • sex pistols rule i don't really like pil that much they ok!!!!!!!

  • damn... the piano fucks up the things, this is not a punk song, this is a fucking evergreen radio song

  • Only Lydon is nuts enough to cover himself without simply singing the same song with a different band.

  • this is a good cover for anarchy in the uk even though it has the same singer

  • so much for not looking backward, lydon, yeah?

  • I've never heard a band cover a song with the same singer. This is weird as hell.

  • PiL was founded by John Lydon...

  • what about audioslave?

  • i just saw perry farrell's new band, satellite party, and with the exception of three songs, the rest of the set was janes addiction and porno for pyros songs

  • yeah, really weird. shoulda spread those out a bit...

  • weird...so many text walls for one video

  • Public Image were for more interesting.

  • yeah but the pistols were better

  • PiL were better! The sex pistols were funny, but that's about it.

  • John just didnt have the same energy he had in the pistols with public image ltd. he didnt have that same pissed off look he had in sex pistols. the original of anarchy in the uk is always the best one though.

  • johnny r is where punk started caN you relate

  • pistols are better

  • kind of makes me sad because to me its saying johnny rotten is gone, its me, john lydon, and Im going to sing this like I can in my sleep, run thru it w/ keyboards in the background. then hes got the damp eyes which is almost too much to take along with the shell it all represents. how can he cheapen it like this? it was so real and so deep. its one of the strangest things ive ever witnessed, like he crossed over, left a skin behind.

  • wow they did a great version

  • it's ok, but piano kinda stinks

  • It's not as good as the original.

  • its his fuckin song so piss off

  • true dat. Rotten/Lydon wrote it and he talks often about how much he dislikes the word punk, i doubt he'd call himself it

  • he wouldnt, only to clarify for those who dont know any better. like I said before, the pistols did not choose punk, IT CHOSE THEM.

(thank you and amen. from somnambulist saith page 14 code 9)

  • leave it to punk fans to shit on punk rock music more than anyone else does. Good cover. Get off the internet and read his book.

  • you are shit!

  • I saw PIL at poole art centre in the mid eighties and they played a lot of pistols tracks, and live they did a much better job of it than the pistols ever did. Cant beat "bollox" as an album tho.

  • If you have ever heard the Pistols when Matlock was on Bass you wouldn't be saying that. When Matlock was around the Pistols were incredible live, and that was the reason people came to see them - because they were so good. When Sid joined however I agree they were awful, people started coming to see them to see what 'punk' looked like rather than for the music.

  • Is that you Glen?

  • lmao

  • that is bollocks

  • its true. Sid was awful. Glen wrote the bulk of the music

  • Now, now, the Winterland performance was actually pretty musically sound. As was the whole USA tour, except for Rotten having the flu.

  • wtf PiL doesn't even compare because they aint punk, such as evidenced in this video.

  • Yep. They're new wave. Which, seeing as how it was original and cutting-edge, was as punk as it gets.

  • Great song. But it was better when he was with The Sex Pistols.

  • what is it? when I watch this I get a lump in my throat and teary eyed! dumb! but it happens. from the beginning, that look on the side of his face, to the end when he finally stops the leg kicking and BENDS OVER the old hunchback... no other video does this happen. and I like PiL. feels like something unconscious. weird. maybe I should just feel like poh poh...it would help

  • What Pity Image of Lydon!!!

Please stop saying its a good cover if you've got ears! There's only renoucement and regression in this dumb hard-rock karaoké. PIL at his lowest level!

  • of course it isnt great version, thats the point isnt it?!

at the time the pistols were viewed with such awe and idolatry that this was lydons way of saying that, it isnt now and never was about being on a pedestal.

  • It's John's song, he can do whatever the fuck he wants to it. If he wants to make it 7 minutes long and sound muscially like "Fodderstompf", then, so be it. That's just how Mister Lydon rolls.

  • Fucking Great I Like This Version

    :P

  • i think his voice is awsome in this one,and pistols..post this yr his voice just changed to dam much

  • wow. he looks like a mix between the 1978 version and the 1996 version.

  • It's a bit fast for my taste, but hell i love the guitar! And John never "lost it", he just matured, and refined with age. And that is STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH!

  • he didnt ruin the song its his own creation he has any right to do or say enything that goes with it

  • Well, the vocals are his creation. Musically, that's all Glen Matlock and Paul Cook, TO BE FAIR.

So, he has as much right to the song as any of the former Pistols, and he can do whatever the fuck he wants. Check out the Cocktail Version of this, it's totally different than when he recorded with the Pistols. But that doesn't make it bad.

  • You forgot Steve Jones you dumbass. Jonesy's guitar is the heart of the Sex Pistols.

  • For the actual music writing? They were all Matlock's ideas. Jones fucking stole all the riffs. Sid got his ass kicked cuz of Jones stealing the main riff to "Holidays In The Sun" from some band called The Jam.

  • some /awesome/ band called the jam! lulz.

i thought that riff was pinched offa bowie, and mick ronson?

  • Might've been, there's always gonna be rumors about who stole whose ideas, though. And the Jam is pretty rad.

  • Furthermore, I was simply referring to this song, which was the musical work of Glen Matlock. Watch the DVD about Never Mind The Bollocks, it's in there. Dumbass.

  • lest any confusion, what I mean is, I know glen at a major point, wrote some major music, but john even had a part in that as far as listening for what sounded right for the words and a tune he thought workable. some ppl think glen helped with the lyrics too. I dont buy that except maybe, possibly, holidays in the sun, (which is a let down cos love that song)

  • cub, I think youre a great bloque and all, but that brings up a point. some ppl always defending glens credit, but if yr not having a musical, arent the words really where its at? and Id say john wrote the words to this. in fact word is glen didnt want to be seen playing it after a point. what about bodies, new york, even problems. no way in green hell did glen write those. thats just not his brain. if Im wrong then Im very deceived.

  • Actually, with the exception of "Holidays In The Sun", "Bodies" and "Belsen Was A Gas", all the Sex Pistols songs were co-written by Glen Matlock. If you don't believe me, go buy the ablum "Spunk (This Is Crap)", it's got all their songs (except all the ones I mentioned that weren't written by Matlock), and he's clearly on there, since the basslines are actually complex and require a level of talent above "beginner". And you're quite alright yourself, somna.

  • I believe you. Something to bear in mind tho- many groups will credit all members with song writing for various reasons, one being for any future legal issues or claims. The Doors for one did, but all songs were writ by either Morrison or Krueger. In final credits for DOA all 4 of the pistols are credited for songs. Also if a member contributes only one line, they are a cowriter. I dont know if this is the case w/ sex pistols. I am surprised if Matlock is listed cowriter of GSTQ because

  • in the book ROTTEN John tells how he wrote the song on his parents table whilst waiting for his beans to warm. Anarchy Id be the same, and they are the 2 obvious ones. Ive nothing against Matlock at all. I do know he wrote music and basslines. I dont think he and John were on the same wavelength but Im sure merged some words. Most the songs are so abstract tho that it seems one person was the main writer and Id bet it true. btw, those 3 songs are not on the Spunk album? Thanks buddy -

  • Yeah, I know those three aren't on Spunk, cuz they were all done after Matlock left. Which people tend to forget was on amazingly good terms, he lent Sid his first bass and tried to teach Sid to play in about a week. And, yeah, although John and Glen weren't on the same wavelength, Glen did seem to be the glue that held it all together. Once he left, it all started to go downhill. They realized this and asked him to come back as a studio musician for Never Mind The Bollocks, and he declined.

  • i like this version

  • keyboards? on anarchy in the uk? john, u killed the song. after about 1982 he loses it. pil's earlier stuff is quality, but wen levene n wobble go its over.

  • hahaha! Brilliant. the man don't give a fuck. I'd agree that Pil definitely dipped after those two left though.

  • John McGeoch and Allan Dias = great combo

  • Keith Levene and Jah Wobble = greater combo.

  • kool

  • WOOT!!!

  • 1985-86 German TV show Rockpalast

  • Excellent THANKS for posting this vid. where and when was this performed? thanks for any info.
