are you kidding me? glen was a really good bassist but when he left they got a guy named sid to stand on the stage with a bass and pretend to play it and steve had just started playing the guitar. they were creative but not good musicians they just had a different sound than any1 else.
well he dident want to be rotten in pil thats why he used his real name lydon...and fuck no pil doesent play anarchy better...they have kerybords and dont play with the anger the pistols did...pils sounds like the brady bunch doing anarchy
Not bad, looks like its from the mid-1980s? I just hope the old punk icons can age gracefully though. I mean, can you imagine john lydon doing this song as part of a lounge act in front of a bunch of old people in say, vegas? How about a duet w/ Tom Jones?
Pink hair and pajamas. A least Joe grew up (while not loosing any passion for the music). Claiming to be all rebel while being all chummy with Ron Paul.
teah, I agree !Johnny IS Johnny, thats it, and we everybody get older, thats it! haha, wonder how many can make something good after the best! Johnny CAN! lol !
umm not. lol rotten is always at his best, lol only bad thing is he has gotten to goofy. lol he was seriouse and funny then he was seriouse now he is just kinda off.. lol
yeh rotten is always at his best, love him always.....lol the butter commercials always make me laugh, but his nature progs were reli good, btu PiL and the Sex Pistols were the best :P
It doesnt matter, the sex pistols were going to end anyway, regardless of sid or malcome, johnny just wrote the entire first PiL album on the American tour, but no one liked it except sid, they were tired of the whole punk scene, jon stopped the clothes pins and sid stated wearing cloth jackets not leather. Him and sid were going forward while Paul and Steve wanted to regress.. so the pistols would have ended any way lol
I could see that, I mean who would want to live their entire life dedicated to trying to be a certain image or style. Maybe that is where they got the name from.
yes yes yes. I fucking love this performance, esp. the piano bit. what did you expect from johnny? I love this ironic rendition and how it annoys people who place the pistols on some kind of pedestal. If you don't get it, then oh well.
I find it funny that on EVERY PiL video on youtube there are always people who love the sex pistols and hate pil complaining about how much PiL sucks.
reminds me of how he sings today except he's older and kinda does that thing that sounds a bit like a sheep baa-a-aing or whatever he's still awesome though
Yeah, and that takes away the awesomeness of the song. It was meant to represent anger. Then again, I don't think Johnny had as much anger here like he did with the Pistols.
a little ironic haha it says cover of the sexpistols but the singer is from the sexpistols and wrote it so it's exsholy (sorry about the bad english) ah song by john lydon :P
if you wrote 'Anarchy in the UK', wouldn't you want to play it? He probably had a lot of fun doing it, nothing wrong with that. It must have been surreal hearing this after 'Death Disco' and 'Flowers of Romance.'
yeah thats what he said and use to walk off interviews when he got asked about the pistols also said not in a million yrs he would play with them again...hes become everything he was against..sex pistols my fav band but nothing beats the 76,77,78 pistols..its all about the money now
and thats a reality most ppl dont want to accept including me, man i wish they would go backto the way they where be4, at least they didnt sell out publicly w/ shitty new songs like metalica did.
calling steve jones, glen matlock and paul cook not musicians??? steve is one of the best guitarist ever, glen is a oustanding bassist and guitarist..paul is one of the best rock drummers of all time. i dont know how you cant say their not..
All this does, is show how full of shit people like Lydon really are. They're great at the time when they come along and apparently 'revolutionise' the music scene-but once their 15 minutes of fame is up, they do what all the others do-form a wanky little band and rely on playing watered down versions of their previous bands songs from a different era. Pistols were pure rock'n'roll and fuckin awesome, but Lydon sold out to everything he ever protested against. He's a talentless ginger bellend.
This was during the early PIL years which was a totally different group that purposely moved away from the image of the sex pistols (and rock and roll in general). This cover is more than a bit ironic . Look up the album Metal Box
it was ok... but it sounds (instrument wise) COMPLETELY AWFUL. omg its horrible, and hes incorperating his PiL like high pitched voice into this and the tours he has done recently
That piano makes this version sound like one of those cheap MIDI backing tracks someone created in their basement and posted to the web. Real Rinky Dink. Mr. Lydon does a much better job singing this song nowadays.
i just saw perry farrell's new band, satellite party, and with the exception of three songs, the rest of the set was janes addiction and porno for pyros songs
John just didnt have the same energy he had in the pistols with public image ltd. he didnt have that same pissed off look he had in sex pistols. the original of anarchy in the uk is always the best one though.
kind of makes me sad because to me its saying johnny rotten is gone, its me, john lydon, and Im going to sing this like I can in my sleep, run thru it w/ keyboards in the background. then hes got the damp eyes which is almost too much to take along with the shell it all represents. how can he cheapen it like this? it was so real and so deep. its one of the strangest things ive ever witnessed, like he crossed over, left a skin behind.

Please stop saying its a good cover if you've got ears! There's only renoucement and regression in this dumb hard-rock karaoké. PIL at his lowest level!
of course it isnt great version, thats the point isnt it?!
at the time the pistols were viewed with such awe and idolatry that this was lydons way of saying that, it isnt now and never was about being on a pedestal.
It's John's song, he can do whatever the fuck he wants to it. If he wants to make it 7 minutes long and sound muscially like "Fodderstompf", then, so be it. That's just how Mister Lydon rolls.
It's a bit fast for my taste, but hell i love the guitar! And John never "lost it", he just matured, and refined with age. And that is STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH!
Well, the vocals are his creation. Musically, that's all Glen Matlock and Paul Cook, TO BE FAIR.
So, he has as much right to the song as any of the former Pistols, and he can do whatever the fuck he wants. Check out the Cocktail Version of this, it's totally different than when he recorded with the Pistols. But that doesn't make it bad.
For the actual music writing? They were all Matlock's ideas. Jones fucking stole all the riffs. Sid got his ass kicked cuz of Jones stealing the main riff to "Holidays In The Sun" from some band called The Jam.
Furthermore, I was simply referring to this song, which was the musical work of Glen Matlock. Watch the DVD about Never Mind The Bollocks, it's in there. Dumbass.
lest any confusion, what I mean is, I know glen at a major point, wrote some major music, but john even had a part in that as far as listening for what sounded right for the words and a tune he thought workable. some ppl think glen helped with the lyrics too. I dont buy that except maybe, possibly, holidays in the sun, (which is a let down cos love that song)
cub, I think youre a great bloque and all, but that brings up a point. some ppl always defending glens credit, but if yr not having a musical, arent the words really where its at? and Id say john wrote the words to this. in fact word is glen didnt want to be seen playing it after a point. what about bodies, new york, even problems. no way in green hell did glen write those. thats just not his brain. if Im wrong then Im very deceived.
Actually, with the exception of "Holidays In The Sun", "Bodies" and "Belsen Was A Gas", all the Sex Pistols songs were co-written by Glen Matlock. If you don't believe me, go buy the ablum "Spunk (This Is Crap)", it's got all their songs (except all the ones I mentioned that weren't written by Matlock), and he's clearly on there, since the basslines are actually complex and require a level of talent above "beginner". And you're quite alright yourself, somna.
I believe you. Something to bear in mind tho- many groups will credit all members with song writing for various reasons, one being for any future legal issues or claims. The Doors for one did, but all songs were writ by either Morrison or Krueger. In final credits for DOA all 4 of the pistols are credited for songs. Also if a member contributes only one line, they are a cowriter. I dont know if this is the case w/ sex pistols. I am surprised if Matlock is listed cowriter of GSTQ because
in the book ROTTEN John tells how he wrote the song on his parents table whilst waiting for his beans to warm. Anarchy Id be the same, and they are the 2 obvious ones. Ive nothing against Matlock at all. I do know he wrote music and basslines. I dont think he and John were on the same wavelength but Im sure merged some words. Most the songs are so abstract tho that it seems one person was the main writer and Id bet it true. btw, those 3 songs are not on the Spunk album? Thanks buddy -
Yeah, I know those three aren't on Spunk, cuz they were all done after Matlock left. Which people tend to forget was on amazingly good terms, he lent Sid his first bass and tried to teach Sid to play in about a week. And, yeah, although John and Glen weren't on the same wavelength, Glen did seem to be the glue that held it all together. Once he left, it all started to go downhill. They realized this and asked him to come back as a studio musician for Never Mind The Bollocks, and he declined.
keyboards? on anarchy in the uk? john, u killed the song. after about 1982 he loses it. pil's earlier stuff is quality, but wen levene n wobble go its over.
I heard that this version of PiL is a group of wedding musicians who knew the Pistols catalog by heart. Is this true?

at the time the pistols were viewed with such awe and idolatry that this was lydons way of saying that, it isnt now and never was about being on a pedestal.

It's John's song, he can do whatever the fuck he wants to it. If he wants to make it 7 minutes long and sound muscially like "Fodderstompf", then, so be it. That's just how Mister Lydon rolls.

wow. he looks like a mix between the 1978 version and the 1996 version.

It's a bit fast for my taste, but hell i love the guitar! And John never "lost it", he just matured, and refined with age. And that is STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH!

he didnt ruin the song its his own creation he has any right to do or say enything that goes with it
chazborotten 4 years ago 2
Well, the vocals are his creation. Musically, that's all Glen Matlock and Paul Cook, TO BE FAIR.
So, he has as much right to the song as any of the former Pistols, and he can do whatever the fuck he wants. Check out the Cocktail Version of this, it's totally different than when he recorded with the Pistols. But that doesn't make it bad.

You forgot Steve Jones you dumbass. Jonesy's guitar is the heart of the Sex Pistols.
csjvgirls 3 years ago
For the actual music writing? They were all Matlock's ideas. Jones fucking stole all the riffs. Sid got his ass kicked cuz of Jones stealing the main riff to "Holidays In The Sun" from some band called The Jam.
cubfan531 3 years ago
some /awesome/ band called the jam! lulz.
i thought that riff was pinched offa bowie, and mick ronson?
eeelectricboogaloo 3 years ago
Might've been, there's always gonna be rumors about who stole whose ideas, though. And the Jam is pretty rad.

I dont buy that except maybe, possibly, holidays in the sun, (which is a let down cos love that song)

cub, I think youre a great bloque and all, but that brings up a point. some ppl always defending glens credit, but if yr not having a musical, arent the words really where its at? and Id say john wrote the words to this. in fact word is glen didnt want to be seen playing it after a point. what about bodies, new york, even problems. no way in green hell did glen write those. thats just not his brain. if Im wrong then Im very deceived.
somnambulistyes 3 years ago
Actually, with the exception of "Holidays In The Sun", "Bodies" and "Belsen Was A Gas", all the Sex Pistols songs were co-written by Glen Matlock. If you don't believe me, go buy the ablum "Spunk (This Is Crap)", it's got all their songs (except all the ones I mentioned that weren't written by Matlock), and he's clearly on there, since the basslines are actually complex and require a level of talent above "beginner". And you're quite alright yourself, somna.
cubfan531 3 years ago

Thanks buddy -
somnambulistyes 3 years ago
Yeah, I know those three aren't on Spunk, cuz they were all done after Matlock left. Which people tend to forget was on amazingly good terms, he lent Sid his first bass and tried to teach Sid to play in about a week. And, yeah, although John and Glen weren't on the same wavelength, Glen did seem to be the glue that held it all together. Once he left, it all started to go downhill. They realized this and asked him to come back as a studio musician for Never Mind The Bollocks, and he declined.
