You can own just about anything in a country as uncaring about nature and wildlife in America. Primates are terrible pets - they're messy and have a tendency to bite. Leave them in the wild where they belong. Google "Charla Nash" if you want to see a good reason not to keep primates as pets.
Those little buggers are pissing and shitting all over the place and these two just casually play with the little bastards. Guess if you like monkeys you like their shit and piss, too.
@killbabymonkeys It's the same thing with human babies. Hey, why don't we just kill all human babies because they urinate and defecate! Good idea. Idiot.
@TheGlacier77 Once they are grown up enough that they don't need people, we integrate them into a troop of older monkeys into an enclosure where they live a natural life. We are currently working on locating release sites for our troops.
@jordandenny89 you don't, illegal to keep as pets, and for good reason - this is why the rescue centre I work at exists, they come in as orphans or ex-pets when they start biting their owners.
@jordandenny89 Depends where you live. I watched a show a few months ago where a woman bought a baby capuchin monkey in Virginia for $5500.00. The breeder keeps the newborn in a dark cage alone so it won’t imprint on anyone but the customer for up to 25 days. Each State has their own laws on monkeys, but they are legal in several states. They are not illegal in all.
@SElement91 Morals are subject to one's own opinion, and while I can't stand to be around monkeys, I'd never hurt any animal. My statement was that this breeder called herself a monkey lover, and I questioned that.
@kutzbill No, your statement was "Depends where you live. I watched a show a few months ago where a woman bought a baby capuchin monkey in Virginia for $5500.00. @SElement91 Why are trying to be right? It matters little to me. I have to question any of the so-called monkey lovers when they subject any baby animal to that. Again, your opinion is valid, as mine is. Morals are a matter of opinion. The person that paid $5500.00 for the baby monkey could not have kids, and thought this animal would fill a part of her life that was missing. To me that's misguided, and wrong. What happens when this male hits puberty? They make horrible “pets”.
@kutzbill I agree with you. It is morally wrong to have a pet monkey, which is basically what you just said. The reason I commented is because I believe if you are against something, you shouldn't encourage a person's behavior by giving them an answer. When the original commenter asked "how do i obtain one of these" it is the responsibility of people who care for primates to explain that owning a monkey as a pet is not a good decision for anyone. I'm not trying to be right, I am right.

God, they're adorable. I love vervets. It's cute how they're so awkward, like human toddlers, but so active. And the fascination with the camera, d'awwww.
We give them 24/7 care but not with one single person. That goes on until they're ready to spend a bit of time alone, and eventually they get put in with a suitable adult female, who helps them learn how to be a monkey and become less attached to people :)

@kutzbill Even if it is legal to own a monkey, it isn't morally righteous and should not be encouraged.
