  • @guitarmcman 4 douchebags have been here since you posted.

  • this song is for my wife

  • They don't call him the Hag because he ain't bad azz .

  • Best voice in music and has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. Brings back memories of childhood, too. Merle will always be my favorite artist.

  • love this song

  • Great voice with a great song. .Wonder why he didn't place his hand over his heart at a recent appearance in Wash. D.C. when the National Anthem was playing??

  • @davycrockett111 ..........that's an easy one,,,,,,He campaigned for Odumbo in 2008,birds of a feather. I always liked the Hag,But I think he sold out America in '08.

  • @RickinFLA07 Time changes all it pertains to.

  • @RickinFLA07 haha get a clue bush took care of that 11 yrs ago

  • @ccac25 is bush really capable of taking care of anything??Just like I thought no chance at all!

  • @zmanzmanzmanzman1 i was replyin to the dude that said merle sold out america supporting obama last election

  • @ccac25 Bush took care of what 11 years ago?

  • @RickinFLA07 I didn't realize the Merle campaigned for obamo the clown. In my book that takes him down a few notches. One thing is for sure, my favorite singer Hank Williams Jr. campaigned for who I voted for...McCain and Palin. I wonder if the Hag feels good about what he did now?

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE

I haven't heard him come out and say anything against the "Blamer N Chief" So I take that to mean The Hag thinks Obummer has done a great job.......I like you voted for the Bocephus Candidate.

  • Love this Merle's beautiful voice and these special words

    Muriel xxx

  • beautiful song....merle should have took the pick out between the string for the photo.. we dont smoke marijuana in tulsa either!!

  • This man can sure jerk tears!!! My Uncle just passed away. Merle was his FAVORITE singer and Randy was my favorite uncle..We used to play and sing Haggard songs together...I'm REALLY going to miss that and him!!!! RIP Randy!!!!

  • i like Celine Dion better.

  • @gunnathegreat Then your in the wrong place!!!!

  • This one will always remind me of my Dad. RIP Daniel Luther Ensey. He was one of a kind like Merle. Thanks for the memories!

  • this is my wifes favorite merle song. i know most couples have there song. an this one is ours.weve had many good times listening to this song!!!!!!!! and hope to have many more !!!!!!!!

  • Tommy Collins had a lot to do with the Hags success

  • WASN'T THIS FELLOW ELVIS' DRIVER AND ELVIS TOOK PITY ON HIM, WROTE HIM A FEW SONGS, BOUGHT HIM SOME STUDIO TIME, AND LET HIM GO?

    I THOUGHT SO.

    ROFL!

  • @jehovahuponyou Think you've got him mixed up with somebody else. Merle was spending his younger years mostly in jail or on probation working in Bakersfield, CA. He really did walk the streets of Bakersfield.

  • @vhanktank - NAW, TELL ME IT AIN'T SO - not that fine looking, red blooded, white, all American youth - OH MY - and even hanging around where Bucktooth Owen hung out - LAWD HAVE MERCY!

    ;^)

    ROFL!

  • @jehovahuponyou We're all red blooded and white's got nothin' to do with it. Hell, I thought Charley Pride was white til I was 18 yrs. old!! But, yeah, Merle's early life was hard & he was in and out of trouble a lot-- even tried his hand at bank robbing! Not very successful at that but while on parole he started singing a little around Bakersfield and another entertainer helped him get a contract to cut his first record. I think you can click on his name to get his bio-- very interesting.

  • @vhanktank - NAW! Can't be - I heard of blue blooded Yankees, so see, not all God's chilluns gots red cor-pus-ssells! Merle was a real Clyde minus the Bunny - damn - but I now know how he can afford them Martin guitars, since he robbed all them banks. AND, you mean to tell me Charlie Pride ain't white? Sum-me-gun man, what damn color is he then - he was in the Grammed Old Okra, and I know for sure they don't let coloreds in there, Mr. Acluck would have a damn stroke! Tell me more ;^)

  • Everything will change when his mans gone!

  • I guess everything does change except what we choose to recall...

    What a great line!

  • Wonderful memories for me:) A great time in my life. TY

  • I got a case of Jack, and a Box-set of Merle... I'm gettin ready for the end of the world.

  • Love this song.......so sweet

  • My husband and mine's wedding song! September 25, 2010

  • im on no island but i walk around everyday singing merle in my head

  • they just don't do them like do like this anymore Merle you are the one

  • if i were on a desert island with just a haggard song in my head...id be happy.

  • I really do like this song by Merle . What a voice and what a message - it's a reminder that we need to recall only the good memories. Since he mentions Lake Shasta, where he had a resort for years, I am wondering if he wrote this - and, if so, was it for someone special. Another winner here to add to the many many others. Thank you for posting this. - Paula

  • @twinPaula12

Well if I had been alert and read the comment that hrtmile17 had made I would have seen that Merle wrote this. Sorry for my denseness here. I do wonder if he wrote this for someone special. However, the lyrics could be applied to many people who have memories such as this. Unforgettable memories that time doesn't erase. Thanks again for this one. - Paula

  • what many beautiful memories this songs bring back to my mind, wow it reaches in to my very mind, heart and soul, and just soothes me... wow!!!

  • I love the way he sings this song; so heart felt. Thanks for the video!

  • i love this song

  • Only someone with a favorite memory would remember these lines! I miss you too! I'll see you in the next go round!

  • merle love you down in new zealand you will always be the greatest.

  • thank you so much for posting one of the greats in country music

  • this will always be mine and my husbands song going on 18years and this was our frist song 2gether!!! thank u myfriend

  • Nobody will fill their shoes. Not possible. I wrote a song 25 years ago. Take a listen to "Half That First Forever" on YouTube. Tell me what you think. I'll guarantee it's country. Not the pop music that impersonates the country music of today. Few left. Alan Jackson and George Strait, but not many more.

  • @61849jim Great song! Thank you!

  • Thanks, I appreciate that.

  • @61849jim I'm country addicted!

  • who's gunna fill there shoes , when all the good ones are gone.

  • nobody, the shoes will be hung over a telephone wire where everyone will see them but nobody will be able to take those shoes for their own. They will be there until eventualy they rot away to nothing and a younger generation will not care about the shoes because they are so old and rotten nobody would want to have wear them.--- Did I just write a little poem there? haha.

  • Actually Merle's houseboat was docked next to mine on Lake Shasta. The man is an incredible poet and musician. He's also a really nice guy.

  • Was this song written when he was married to Leona Williams? Hope someone knows the answer.

Lake Shasta is abt. 75 miles from where I live in California

  • the best-total package-all due respect to the great george jones-but hag is the best

  • My favorite memory breaks my heart all over again....since he passed away.

  • Whenever I hear this song, or most any Merle Haggard song, it takes me back to my time with Phillip, who was the love of my life. He always played Merele on his guitar, and sang to me. My very favorite was "There Won't Be Another Now". I'd never heard it before Phillip sang it to me. But I suggest anyone who loves Merle listen to it.

  • I love Merle Haggards "Old Country" type of singing, it's real, good, solid, country not like half of the new country singers out here today. This one you can hold your sweetie real tight and dance real slow and have very nice thoughts. Sing it Merle!!!

  • I love this song!!

  • this song brings back some beautiful memories

  • @shirleyp833 It sure does.

  • great song
