Dude, you keep getting bit because you have no idea how to handle them. I've grabbed up Racers dozens of times and alot more often than not they have been docile and not even attempted to bite. You handled that one recklessly which is why you got bit several times

Brandon, the fastest snake I've ever seen in the field was a California Red Racer (Masticophis flagellum piceus), which I am sure you would know is actually a Coachwhip subspecies. I suprised one that was sunning in a large vacant lot and it easily outran me. The 7-8 mph most texts will grudgingly admit the snake can hit at topp speed is ludicrously conservative and should be doubled. I was also outrun by a Blue Racer in Michgan long ago. Your videos are

I have a few of these in my yard down in S. Florida. One of the cool things they do also is raise up like a cobra and even strike at you. I was pulling up a large cypress stump and a 4-5ft one came racing out.

very nice video!! I just want to correct one commone missconception and that black racers actualy do well in captivity assuming that it was CAPTIVE bred and not caught in the wild. Though they do need a larger inclosure for their size then other snakes would as they are an active snake. One of my favs as far as snakes go. Saw a video once of a man who owned a black racer and he taught it to play dead useing hand signals. I have never seen a snake do that.

Yes they do mosty toads though, they'll occaionally eat baby turtles birds and other smnall mammels. Sometimes small snakes, and lizards. But they are dietary specialist.
