Pat Metheny is the most generic, sterile, bland, uninspiring guitarist on the planet. Does he really think that crowd wants to sit in that stadium on a beautiful sunny day and listen to something you'd normally only hear over the Walgreen's speakers late at night?
@ET505 , Obviously you didn't hear the crowd cheering at the beginning cheering, and they are doing just that , sitting and standing in the stadium on a beautiful sunny day, Walgreens speakers??? I think you have Pat Metheny confused with Spyro Gyra, Kenny G, Hiroshima.
This version of "are you going with me" brings me right back to sitting in my college dorm room freshman year, looking out the window on a spring day as the sun is setting. Didn't have a care in the world.
To me, this has always been one of Metheny's most profoundly moving pieces. It moves forward into the great unknown, plodding forward to God knows where...that place we all go, someday.
Ooh, you seem to be a bright one. Did your momma drop you on your head when you were a child? Are you still a child? F.Y.I. calling someone you don't know 'gay' was only an insult in grade school...just sayin'.
An artist in his prime. Taking jazz and guitar and the human voice to somewhere unique and very ,very primal in the senses. The only comparison I can make is to my first experience of hearing John Martyn's Small Hours or Coltrane's.....well anything by Coltrane!!!
Nowadays players of the guitar synth are constantly trying to improve the tracking of the things. Adrian Belew sounds like he's got it, pretty much. But there are still tracking problems sometimes. What's the deal? Pat was and is playing the GR-300, which was one of first guitar synths ever made, if not the first one. Yet this dinosaur of an instrument tracks perfectly. What up? Any techie musicians can tell me what's the dealy-o?
Although I admire this guy, I never liked this guitar synth. I m in to more traditional jazz guitar sound. Still though, it s Metheny's artistic opinion and even though I don t like this sound, I can t imagine anything else for this great song..
I LOVE the arrangement in this version. Although, I did hear better Pat's solos for AYGWM. That doesn't mean he's not great here. Only that I heard him being even greater. :)
the tone sounds too bad in this . but he s made some amazing music with that silly synth, check out other versions of this song and you ll know wat i m talking about .
He is one creepy looking dude. With those long, boney fingers. If he's not cast in the next Vampire battles werewolf movie, there's something wrong...
I think either in spain or possiblyin Japan, I recall Marcus Miller at same local wonder was it part of same show, check out marcus miller live on youtube and run these back to back its like being there, my dream has been to play along side these Cats on Bass or toothpicks anything would be cool!

If you want it to sound like a keyboard, just play a synth. Why does a guitar have to sound like a Casio keyboard?

@ET505 , Can you pick on a Keyboard ? NO ! there's your answer
My bet is that you really can't tell good music from bad and know nothing about instruments,

"That silly synth"... wow. I'm intrigued. To me, the sound of the guitar synth makes up for half of the magic of the song. It's just a part of it.
But you are entitled not to like it, of course... ;-)
