I was shocked at my reaction of this video of Stuart, he is one of the most beautiful young men I have ever seen..and to die at 21? is so dam unfair.R.I.P Stuart and at least you have two of The Beatles with you.God Bless! xxx
Stu was the one who came up with the name Beatles. John thought he meant Beetles, and said hell no! When Stu explained to John he meant B-E-A-T-L-E-S- and why (the beat, get it?) then John loved it. For some reason, they decided on The Silver Beatles, then dropped the Silver after Brian Epstein got involved by his suggestion. Brian actually "made" The Beatles what they were, and had become during his life until he died.
Stuart Sutcliffe was undeniably the most incredibly handsome Beatle there ever was! Even though he didn't last long in the band, he is my very favourite Beatle. I've always liked Ringo Starr as well even though he has always been rather funny looking. John Lennon on the other hand was very homely. Pete Best looked okay and so did Paul McCartney and George Harrison but when it came down to attractiveness, Stuart Sutcliffe blew them all away!
@HoldOnToYourDream after hearing that interview on NPR lasst night of Astrid or whatever her name was who was Stuart's boyfrined and is famous for taking a lot of early beatles photos........she says John wanted him in the band for the way he looked and also because he was an artist. I think John knew they needed some visual appeal. I have a theory though.....if everyone looked like an abercrombie and finch catalog maybe there would BE NO BEATLES !!! I'm not attackin you .....jst an idea iv hd
Astrid Kircherr was not Stuart's boyfriend, you stupid shithead!!! She was his girlfriend!!! She was a woman not a man, you stupid ignorant pile of horrid foul smelling shit!!! You also need to learn to spell things correctly like the words "last" which you spelled "lasst" and "boyfriend" not "boyfrined" and plus the business you were referring to is "Abercrombie and Fitch" not "abercrombie and finch"
@222Lightning In the first sentence I meant to write "was Stuart's GIRLfriend". Notice how the person above insulted me for my comment. Is this person really a human being ?
Iteresting,, but oddly enough, the only reason anyone knows him is because he died. He didnt' accomplish anything musically or to be famous. Not a criticizm,, just the truth.
@xvoy2002 Stu playing with the lads in their formative years IS a major musical accomplishment. Stuart and John created the Beatles name, and contributed to the aesthetics and artistic direction of the band, he was the fist band member to have the Beatle haircut. John said Stuart was the star painter in the art collage the two attended. With his artistic talent and connections with pop cultures soon to be golden boys, he would have been famous in the art world. Not a criticizm, just the truth.
@jackrkilby Hey, i don't know about the "Beatle haircut," but i think he looks great at 0:09 in the video with the top heavey swept up hairdo. If i had that much hair, I'd dot he same thing.. love that look.
@xvoy2002 The Beatle hair cut was given to him by Astrid Kirchherr, and later adopted by the rest of the group. Astrid did not invent the moptop, it was a style worn by German art students at the time. For more on the subject watch the documentry Stuart Sutcliffe: The Lost Beatle :)
Stu was a very important part of the early Beatles..he gave them their name and their early look..and his bass playing wasn't as bad as it's been made out to be...He joined the band in January of 1960..and quit in July of 1961 to go back to art school...he died on the way to the hospital on April 10,1962 at the age of 21
MAGNIFICENT CLIP PUT TOGETHER, CHEERS, bless yer heart for havin' BIG Soul...another Mold broken forever...what a loverly Cat Stu was all in all...cheers again..
This is a beautiful montage of pictures with Stuart Sutcliffe. I decided he was my favourite Beatle after I first saw the picture of him wearing his shades and holding his bass while standing in front of a tractor that John Lennon and George Harrison were sitting on. I loved Stuart's badass wavy hair combed upward in the James Dean pompadour fashion. He was very handsome just like James Dean and ironically he died young like him. Only the good die young!
watch the phots and you know why John kicked him out: Stu was SO good looking and John must have been afraid that Stu would get all the attention with his great look. The same goes for Pete. He was and is a good drummer, better than Ringo.
John announced to the dismay of the other members, that if he ever wanted to come back to the band would be fully welcomed . If the other members didn't like it and refused to accept him back John said he would leave and break up the Beatles. That is a fact said by John himself and McCartney has verified it as well! Stuart Sutcliffe was truly a powerful player that decided the fate of the most successful, most popular band in history
do you know? That The Beatles where not usually start in the Cavern Club?it was started in the Casbah club when Ringo still not the drummer for The Beatles, the cavern is where The Beatles is discovered by Brian Epstein, when they accept Brian Epstein as manager,John ask Brian to fire Pete and let Ringo to join,so Brian let Pete to go and let Ringo join.(sorry for my wrong grammar).
Such a tragic story, a talented and beautiful man whose life was cut so short.
Just saw a documentary on him and the story was mentioned, about John Lennon kicking him in the head. Upon hearing about Stuart's death John freaked out. As much as I admire John Lennon one must ask whether he was responsible.
@DudeAragorn Rubish, John wasnt world famious back then. If John was gulity of something he would have been arrested. Sadly good people can and do die at a young age
Its amazing that john lennon was never trialed for killing Stuart Sutcliffe. lennon heavily kicked young Stuart in the head in Germany, and Stuart suffered severe headaches - because of a thin fracture never picked up in tests - for 11 months before he died. Read "the lives of john lenon", By Albert Goldman. What Goldman says has never been sued over, or actioned in court by lennons widow, or estate.
You are misinformed and if you quote Goldman on anything, anything - you are deluded and lack credibility.
Let alone on something that far in the past.
Now you are making legal statements about which you know NOTHING.
There were two autopsies.
The rumors list a fight in Liverpool. Or Hamburg. They all have different dates.
Truth from that night? They all got jumped and McCartney and Harrison saved his ass. Lennon broke his hand in the fight. There are police reports on it dumb ass.
Lennon had quite a reputation as a jealous bully. What Goldman avers has never been actioned in court. So drop your chips for a second and actual READ "The lives of John Lennon". Great read. You... can read, right?
Thanks for making this video, it makes those who wasn't born yet when The Beatles where extremely popular be aware that there is this guy who is way ahead of his time in terms of playing bass..
where did you find all of those photos? I've seen a few before, but not the majority of the ones in your video...excellent choice of music for the pics... I assume most, if not all the photos, were taken by Astrid...is there a book?

What wonders me most is the guitar.
That's a Gibson ES175 with one Pick up.
I never seen any of the Beatles pictured with a Gibson ES175. At last not this one.
Beatles is Gretsch or Hofner in the early days.
What's the story?
