@safayi Yeah I guess it does depend on age. I hadn't heard about BR until recently when people were saying HG ripped it off. I read it, watched the two movies, and I'm currently reading the manga. I love it but I just don't think HG ripped it off. I've always loved Japanese films and manga and anime, I'm just upset that this wasn't more popular also.

Guys.. Suzanne Colliins wasn't even aware of the existence of Battle Royale when she wrote The Hunger Games. Yes Battle Royale came first. I actually only started reading THG because I heard it was similar to BR (which I adore) and because a lot of people are raving over it. However, their similar plot is a concidence. So no one copied anyone and the two should be enjoyed separately and not compared to one another. Simple as that.
Hunger Games seems kind of new, this movie has been out for a while. Also, I never even HEARD of Hunger Games until recently and just found out today that it was similar to this. I can't judge anything about Hunger Games but it's taking the concept from this for sure.
You can't really compare THG and BR films; one film is aimed at.. (is it 13 years and up?) teenagers (THG) while BR is rated an 18; the same audiences will not watch them either. Same with the books. THG is aimed at young people (aged 12 plus it said on a copy I borrowed?) while BR is aimed at an adult audience. So really, there wll be a portion of HG fans who won't watch BR because its not really suitable for them... (the target audiences are different peoples!!!)

BR book was written in 1999, the HG was originally published in hardcover on September 14, 200. So BR is not similar to HG, is the HG that's similar to BR. I recommend you read both of them but for me BR is better in every aspect. I also recommend you to read the manga since it follows the book himself.

The Hunger Games, I believe, is a lot more epic. There's a different arena every year, you get weapons, there are Gamemakers that can do what they want and make your life hell. This may be a good film, but it's not The Hunger Games.
@TheMovieExpert411 You actually just described Battle Royale. They have to change the location every time they do this (as parents prob aren't too happy their kids are fighting to the death). The kids get duffle bags of random weapons, from guns to trash can lids. And while I'm not sure what the Gamemakers are, past winners are also sent to the island to wreck shit up. Huge similarities between the two isn't a reason to say one is better than the other.
@snowfoxk Well, these locations aren't just changed. It's like an arena which Gamemakers create in their control rooms and stuff. They can make anything happen, very over the top. They have mutations that they send off to wreak havoc. But the kids also don't just get weapons, they have to run to the center and risk death to get them. And the past winners in The Hunger Games are mentors for the next kids from their district coming into the arena.

hunger games is a BIT like this, but much more updated and made for a diverse audience. it has love stories, 3 series, adventure, and wayyy better outfits :D
Why is there even hate? sure the Hunger Games and Battle Royale share a common 'fight to death/game/teenagers' theme but both of the stories are very VERY different (concerning purpose, outcome and audience), each to their own. I think both the stories complement the other, it's similar to how Vampire-love-triangle stories are very similar to eachother in plot but are still unique. At the end of the day, the 'Games' (Both Battle Royale and Hunger) are very entertaining so I'm not complaining =)

The Hunger Games, I believe, is a lot more epic. There's a different arena every year, you get weapons, there are Gamemakers that can do what they want and make your life hell. This may be a good film, but it's not The Hunger Games.

The kids get duffle bags of random weapons, from guns to trash can lids. And while I'm not sure what the Gamemakers are, past winners are also sent to the island to wreck shit up. Huge similarities between the two isn't a reason to say one is better than the other.

@snowfoxk Well, these locations aren't just changed. It's like an arena which Gamemakers create in their control rooms and stuff. They can make anything happen, very over the top. They have mutations that they send off to wreak havoc. But the kids also don't just get weapons, they have to run to the center and risk death to get them. And the past winners in The Hunger Games are mentors for the next kids from their district coming into the arena.

Why is there even hate? sure the Hunger Games and Battle Royale share a common 'fight to death/game/teenagers' theme but both of the stories are very VERY different (concerning purpose, outcome and audience), each to their own. I think both the stories complement the other, it's similar to how Vampire-love-triangle stories are very similar to eachother in plot but are still unique. At the end of the day, the 'Games' (Both Battle Royale and Hunger) are very entertaining so I'm not complaining =)

Fans of Twilight hate Harry Potter because they think HP copied their precious movie. (They obviously don't know how to read release dates; HP came out first. (Books AND movies.))

@Karami actually hunger games is book from a series and you can read up on her inspiration for the books which definitely isn't some stupid jap movie, and asian film markets are always making remakes, knock offs and shitty sequels to European/North American Films.

@SnakeEyesElite You best hold your tongue and do some research of your own. Battle Royale is a book that was published in 1999. This is a trailer for a movie adaptation of that book. The hunger games do have a lot of striking similarities to Battle Royale which may or not be intentional (Collins is claiming not), but to me it's kind of like Fern Gully and Avatar. Just very many similarities that are noticeable
