The WHOLE Metal Gear Solid franchise is as absolute work of art. I'd say the story is better than Titanic, or better than the sight of the Mona Lisa. Every game compels you to continue, all while having some of the greatest gameplay of any game.

Damn, i only got to play MGS4 about 6 months ago. I was so hyped up to finally get a PS3 and buy the game. Was well worth it, played it through 5 times before playing a different game at all. The end literally bought a tear to my eye.

I was suprised that Mother 3 was rated higher than MGS4 but after the facts that you mentioned about Mother 3 does make an amzing point. This was a video well worth watching! =)

I'm a bit disappointed that Alan Wake was not on this. It's sort of like Shadow of Colossus in the, only modern day, more supernatural and much more disturbing as you progress through. Then when you get to the ending... Huge slap to the face and jaw drop.

For me, MGS4 is the saddest game I've ever played. After playing all the games, MGS4 just wraps everything up so perfectly and the music and nostalgia just adds to the sadness immensely that it's the only game that has managed to make me cry. I really think the entire series should have ended there, we don't need Metal Gear: Rising at all.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence was pretty sad. The back story with the merchant's daughter, the main plot with Leon's fiance, even the ending of the game gives you a feel for dracula himself.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was my #2 saddest game ever... 3rd was mother 3(was lucas here the same lucas from ssbb?) and, of course... my #1 was... Killzone 2. Some may find it just a shooting game, but I really felt that I got to know the cast of characters in it. The deaths of Dante Garza, followed by the death of Evelyn Batton(I don't give a s*** about her) and Colenol Jan Templar happening just after.

There are two major ones that come straight to my mind, both from KH2.

When Axel dies, he was the first bad guy you fought, and of course being part of the Organization, wanted to stop Sora, but later in the game he had somewhat of a change of heart.

Although I don't really remember exactly why, since it had been so long since I played, I do remember that scene being pretty emotional when he comes to save you and spends all his energy just to see you thru your journey.

The second one is right after the fight against Demyx, when Goofy tries to save Mickey from that falling boulder, but gets hit in the head and just lies there motionless.

I had thought that he actually died, and having had the kingdom hearts series as a huge part of my gaming life and childhood, that really got to me. Especially when the game goes through all the memories with him, and tells you you have a deceased party member.

Even though he didn't die, it was powerful

@Emixsal I had to come back and write ONE MORE THING. Albedo can never see the people he loves again. Celes also lost the people she loves the most. Snake has seen endless death and destruction, and finally meets his father for the last time after trying to commit suicide. And Lucas has seen his family members die, and Claus realizes that he's been causing so much damage, then kills himself. Would you like to be in the same situations as Albedo, Celes, Snake, or Lucas? I don't think so.

But the main part is the music. Violins, upbeat with a sense of hope, as CV returns home, but we get a final stage after the three, at the end implying to let go. And if you actually let go, you get the final game over, with Commander Video seeing us once more then fading away. The titles of the levels, Epiphany, Perception and Catharsis, all show his realization and purgatation. And then, as if it WEREN'T SAD ENOUGH, we get the final game over screen.

BIT.TRIP FLUX was not on here. What. *SPOILERS* I found FLUX way sadder then Number 3. It was the whole game, about the main character who had already died in FATE with shockingly sad cutscene, but this one was incredibly cryptic. For a start, there are only 5 cutscenes that all don't involve any dialogue or body movement (Hell, he doesn't even have a body, he's in purgatory as a rectangle) but it still manages to imply what it means.
