yes when the video was made in the 80's , i'm not exactly sure witch way it happened , but the long version of the video is bowie telling the girl he knows the singer and can arrange for them to meet , like i say its a while since i seen it but its incident packed and lasts at least 15 min's .

On the longer version he's putting up the letters for the venue add on the wall outside and falls down on the ladders hurting his nose. Somehow he ends up in the performer's (Bowie in paint) dressing room, seeing him without his makeup. The performer promises to come and say hello to him (the twerpy Bowie) so he could make a good impression on the girl just he won't tell anyone what he looks like without makeup. Of course the performer knows the girl and he.... (I won't spoil the end....)
