Paul Desmond was truly great. In my mind there are few words that can really describe his talent. A great download from NPR music web site on his life, narrated by Nancy Wilson is well worth the time. Tells his story...pass it along as far as you can...one of a kind.
@2314575 I gladly join you in your high evaluation of really marvelous book by Doug Ramsey which I highly recommend to all Paul Desmond's fans. The title is" Take Five: the public and private lives of Paul Desmond.
Check out Dave's son if you get the chance...Chris Brubeck...great bass player and pianist...does some of his dad's tunes, and plenty of his own. Good stuff.
I think this is my favourite song by Dave Brubeck quartet. My favourite version is from the album "The great concerts: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Carnegie Hall."
Man - what a superb number! I thought I had heard most of these - my favourite - musicians Brucbeck and Desmond - but this one is new to me. Many thanks Astrotype !!
i was sure i'd never see footage of these two in action on this tune what a godsend! this is desmond at his whimsical best thanks so much one of the most sublime duos in jazz!! the whole quartet was amazing
Wonderful, thanks! I think I've seen albums covers of bootlegs with pictures of those AMAZING trousers Brubeck's wearing... PS best not to fool people, even though the video credits Mulligan, he's obviously not on this clip. Nevertheless, thanks much!
Wow ! Why didn't I start listening Paul Desmond since I was one year old?
