  • @ 4:58...............WOW! HOT!!

  • @ 1:06, Isn't that Joel from De La Salle

  • Nice tribute to many of the 70's corps, too bad you left out 27th Lancers? as if they were never even there in the 70's : (

  • Nice tribute to all the 70's corps, too bad you left out 27th Lancers? as if they were never even there in the 70's : (

  • These were the days of our lives...PB&J and a dixie cup of milk was considered a good meal--110 degrees on a gym floor in Bellevue IL--We got salt tablets with breakfast---We practiced until the instructors got hot and I wouldn't have traded one single day--The years have passed and miles seperates us, though time it seems, never has-the bonds we forged as teens have lasted our lifetime...FHNSAB---72-73

  • These were the days of Wine and Roses...LOL

  • Good to see all these fine ol school drum corps especially Mighty St. Joe's Of Batavia. Those were some fun days like every thing back then.

  • I have a thought ,

Why not have OLD SCHOOL Drum Corps as a division and the new stuff in a different one .

In the Old School , YOU MUST USE G/F BUGLES and CARRY EVERYTHING ON THE FILED ... AND YOU MUST CARRY A AMERICAN FLAG as well as a STATE Flag and be Sponsered by a VFW HALL or American Leagion Hall ..

    NO SISSY PITS ....

  • Drum AND BUGLE Corps was a brave and unique art form. Because it was looked upon by academics as "primitive" and "fringe", it took true courage, pride and dedication to perform in these units. But the greatest vindication of these organizations it that they could blow ANY marching band off the field. Some of the musical arrangements were as difficult to perform as college wind ensemble pieces.

I'm proud to have marched when CHROME PLATING was king.

    AND NO COLLEGE CREDIT, EITHER!

  • FANtastic !!! Thank you.

  • wow this is great thank you for posting it i am haveing so many memories from this

  • I hope to have those when I march corp!

  • Thanks for posting this. An amazing trip down DCI's Memory Lane. Aren't you the same guy who has that INCREDIBLE and oh so WELL DONE Frances Farmer website?

  • Great photo's...those were the days. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the activity hasn't necessarily gotten better over the years. And, you can't blame the path of drum corps on one person...there's plenty of blame to go around...just because someone tells you to jump off a bridge doesn't mean you should do it. More Cowbell!

  • agree........maybe because I marched in the early 70s but boy did it truly show the cutting edge of new drum corps styles back then....and did the memories flow.....ahhh! living on Buses, friends...,(boys) in several states...I still write some friends after 30 years!

  • Those were the days my friends, bus rides practice for hours on end, sleeping in gyms,it prepared me for my 20 years in the military and life in general when time travel is perfected im going to see Real Drum corps instead of the watered down drivel we have now...

  • i can relate to that .igrew up in the drum corp life. like you said long long bus rides ,sleeping where we were allowed and were"nt unbeleavable things going down cannot explain.i from ny area marched in class a corps was a trip.drum corp today i dont like that much wartered down with stage/props /acting .not the cutting edge real deal .

  • its an awsome video

  • This so much better than the crap all the corps play today, although I think the drill has gotten much cooler. The music has a good melody and tune... it's an actual song.

  • Thanks for posting this, brought back many good memories!

  • Thanks formerscout. Great photo montage. My brother Larry and I marched this '73 Kilties show. I was on timp and he on cymbals. Too bad the soundtrack ends right before my squeeky crank solo prior to coming out of concert on this recording.

  • Yes add Argonne to the things I like to see today! Seeing Argonne Rebels in the 1973 come off the line in one single line horn line blowing everyone away! Best horn line in 73!

  • Don't blame Stanley. I marched with him with SC. Great guy on and off field.

But I agree. Wouldn't it be nice to see Madison come off the line with Alice in Wonderland show? The music has to take back being what everything evolves around. Royer would agree! I sat in his apartment one night and he played for me what we were going to play next year (1973)... Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra!

  • These are the good old days when Drum Corps had testosterone!!! No dancing boys in spandex throwing 3 pound rifles around.

Did Stanley Knaub ruin Drum Corps??

Yes-- he helped I guess it was all too masculine for him.

  • You bet. It's about time that we took back drum corps from the boys that have ruined it. This last DCI national was a travesty. There is hardly any difference between the top 12 and major college bands - oh well gee, they're all instructed by major college band profs and their grad assistants. The biggest casualty of drum corps in the last 30 years has been its MASCULINITY. It is now effeminate. Time to do something about it.

  • Nicely Done! Thanks for the memories!!!

    Sacramento, CA

  • Vintage. Brings back some memories. I recognize most groups. I marched with the White Tornadoes 70-72. Still love the Corps.

  • Thanks so much for the memories!!! I only wish you had some more of the Hawthorne Muchachos I did see one of Jeff Kievit on the cover of DCI magazine. Moe Knox was the man he took alot of pictures of us. Do you happen to have any you could post???

  • I might be able to help with a video from Argonne '73. Contact me offlist at kelleyunderwooddotcom

  • Thanks to my daughter for having this on her account. Being a drum corps family, this video brought back SO many memories. As a chaperone on tour, I helped make so many PBJ sandwiches, fix Taco salad in a garbage bag and sleep in four different positions on a bus seat. Our kids marched in the Sacramento Freelancers mid- to late 70's....Tracy and Michael Ayers.

  • Great to see some Argonne in there. I marched 71-73. Some of the best times of my life. Any more?

  • '73 Argonne is my all-time favorite show. Does anyone out there know of an available video? Thanks!

  • Sorry guys thats 1967 -1970 CArter Cadets

  • Thank you so much for the slide show. What great memories. I marched with the Carter Cadetes 1987-1970 the trick rifle section. (Brooklyn) New York & most of the guys went on to The Skyliners.

I want to salute all who took drum corp to the level of commitment. Hats off to Judge Bobby Tyler and Joe Tucker who are no longer with....

  • wow... the memories. when Corps was Corps. Excellent job! thank you.

  • Thanks formerscout - this made my day!

  • Completely awesome--breathtaking. Great job!!

  • awesome i marched with Spirit of 76 from 77 to 79 and both my sons marched with The Racine Scouts. Happy 80th Anniversary Racine Scouts and 80 more

  • SCV YAY I marched off and on from 69--75 this made me cry anybody remember me--Lynn Pitton?

  • Hey I saw myself in there! SC Vanguard snare line 78 & 79. Great slide show. Very well done.

  • Good to see Argonne in there....I was looking for some of my pics. I shot for Drum Corps World about that time

  • Argonne Rebels were absolutely fabulous. Their 1973 show is my all-time favorite. So - are you Dick Diehl, Moe Knox, Jane Boulen?

  • Hats off to the Lancers, Blue Stars, Phantom and Santa Clara...all drum corps is "all good". Bridgemen didn't get any respect...they were the show. (Former DCA-Whalers D&B Corp out of New Bedford, MA-Old Cape Cod forever)

  • Very cool. I suppose it's merely a matter of my particular age, but the 70's to me are the golden age of drum corps. Great photos.

  • Every time I see one of these, I keep looking for picutres of myself, in the red tunic of the Santa Clara Vanguard! But it's still great to see all of those old skool corps from back in the day. Thanks for sharing this.

    TC

  • Thanx for the memories! I marched with the Bluecoats in 74, 75 and 76. All the corps you showed were our heroes, as we were virturally unheard of then. Drum Corps now just doesn't add up.

  • Nice job! It was nice to see a picture of my corps the 1974 Auburn Purple Lancers. It brought back memories. The picture was taken during our concert number of "La Fiesta Mexicana" where we had a solo ensemble doing some Mariachi style while costumed like amigos with sombreros and shawls.

  • omg both my parents corps were in there, De LaSalle Oaklands and Oakland Crusaders. Back when Canada was actually a force in the activity.

  • I lot of these came from Fleetwod Albums, didn't they? Some great stuff!

  • Thanks,As a kiltie alum,my wife a kiltie(the only female to age out)this was great.I don`t know what happened to drum corp its just not the same

  • These were the days of REAL drum corp. Not the B.S we see today. I don't even watch anymore. Thanks for this great video.

  • I completely agree. I watched this year's on ESPN2 and was repulsed. All the focus seems to be on the visual now. And what is with all the dancing and singing? That's Drum Corps?

  • Thank you VERY much. What a great way to remember some of the great corps of the past.

    Do somemore!!!

    John Steaveson

    1979&81 -Santa Clara Vanguard

    1983-85 -Concord Blue Devils

  • Lancers were local to North Star & Boston Crusaders. We had one hell of a rivalry. We were all thrilled the year that they got second place at finals, they were so sure that they would win. See again it was their politics. They were part of the Olympic ceremonies that winter so they kept the same show identically intact as they were too busy with the olympics to change their show. They did the same show for two years and almost won! We were salavating we were so irritated.

  • I'm sorry that I wasn't clearer. Although I have to agree that 27th was great, I believe that most other drum corps considered them to be part of the axis of evil (LOL). None of us ever liked their politics & they were a common enemy for most of us. Nothing like a common enemy to bring us together.

  • I saw about 3 photos of my drum corp-North Star, along with about 3 pictures of one of my favorite drum corps-The Bayonne Bridgemen. I saw no picture of The 27th Lancers however.....

  • Well - I didn't spend too much time making this - and it wasn't intentional to leave out any specific Corps. 27 was great! But... my description does state, "Strong emphasis on pictures of the Blue Stars, Phantom Regiment and Santa Clara Vanguard."

  • I have a question concerning the music playin behind the pictures. Who were the corps and what years. I think that one was the Kilts. As for myself, I marched the '79 Kilties on snare and'80 Guardsmen on Vibes. Thanks for the pictures, there were several that I hadn't seen before.
