I would rather talk and listen to what you deem a 'hippie', than a rude, cutural retarded bunch of bigots. Nick and Liesl keep singing and being wonderful!!
Funny how the protesters complaining about lead in the water filled the sky with Glycol smoke to say Shame. glycol = antifreeze! Hope your kids enjoyed breathing that stuff up :)
@MikeRubbo You talk about consultation, well there was a state election 3 weeks ago and your gal Michelle Meares only got 225 votes at Avoca booth. Considering there are 2000 voters at Avoca i think thats obvious that 90% of people don't mind the ship going down. Gillard would give her right arm for a majority of that scale.
@ToryCCMc People vote for many different reasons. It's a real stretch to say that Michelle only getting 225 votes proves that 90% of Avocans are for the sinking. This project was imposed on Avoca by the Terrigal dive community. Our greatest asset is the reputation of our beach as clean and safe and with good surf. CCARP showed no interest at all in our concerns about how the ship could impact that reputation. That's proof of CCARP's being only tninking of themselves.
I'm a Central Coast Boy, i have no problem with the sinking of the ex Hmas Adelaide, There is more than one sunken ship out in those waters. As to the lead, you would have more daily contact with lead paint in homes and shops than you would with the Adelaide, Enjoy it for what it is. I only wish it was down towards us more at Umina / Ettalong.
Nick and Liesl, do you even live at Avoca, let alone the Central Coast, or are you just inner citie trendies trying to dictate your view on the people of the Central Coast? Do you realise that you are denying the future generation jobs by saying this project shouldnt go ahead?
@ToryCCMc They do live on the central . They wrote the song on the Central coast. This ship is a terrigal business plan being imposed on Avoca beach . Whether it'll create jobs or not, Avoca cant just be drafted into the role of host without any say so in the matter. Funny, none of the terrigal drivers of this plan thought to consult Avoca. No, they decided to just steam roll it through with the help of the Express Advocate.
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HOW MUCH RUBBISH, ASBESTOS, DEBRIS OUT OF QLD.... CANT WAIT TILL IT SINKS AND PLEASE LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE WAKE UP............. NO ONE CARES........
This ship sinking I clean and you should look at other wreaks heaps of fish, this will also give you more tourists giving you more money. Other ship wrecks without outer paint removal are being used for diving now and are a fish sanctuary.
Unfortunately because we live in a democracy, we elect a government to make decisions for the greater good of the wider community. Sometimes we don't agree with these decisions, that's what elections are for. You do, however have the right to ask the question, why is this happening here?, and expect a clear answer. It doesn't help to cloud the issue with unsubstantiated environmental scare stories like interfering with migrating whales. You don't know but whales are pretty good at navigation.
wow...I don't know anything about the sinking of the HMAS Adelaide but this is a great song and really well performed. Very delicate and beautiful. Geat job.
Over and above any political and ecological controversy, this is a fantastic and lyrical tribute to the area and its natural beauty. Well done, Mike! The song and the striking images will stay on long after the controversy has died down and Adelaide found a fitting and peaceful resting ground that will satisfy both the tourists and the divers and nature lovers and conservationists. I am sure this is possible with a bit of thought and preparation.
I love this song. I don't believe in dumping 4000 tonnes in our oceans in Avoca or anywhere. There are so many countries that don't do this, why are we. Avoca is such a fantastic holiday destination in it's own right has been many years. Will people still flock to the pristine shores or have doubts about the once pristine waters. There are so many issues surrounding this. What if the sand erosion is escalated? What about the waves? People come to Avoca for the surf & sand. Why mess with it?
Great protest song and not surprising it attracts interest from both sides of the divide. Don't worry about the negative stuff people said the same things about John Lennon, Donavan and Bob Dylan. Curiously in this world bad press is just as good as good press and much better than no press. You're much better known around Australia than before all this and every one agrees you are great singers and songwriters. Hang onto what you believe.
"You're much better known around Australia than before all this and every one agrees you are great singers and songwriters". This isnt Australian Idol.
Plans to scuttle the ship has been going on for about 10 years....why are you only protesting now? Was it only because you thought it was going to be sunk in Terrigal instead of Avoca?
Oh hey thanks for removing my first comment. Every great dictator knows that controlling the media and censoring dissenting opinion is the best way to win a war.
Hi Lostpunk, if your comment was removed it was because it was rude, sarcastic, etc.
Removal has nothing to do with me being a dictator but merely my wish have a civil dialogue associated with this beautiful song which Nick and Liesl freely gave.
If you can't accept that, then take you anger elsewhere. But if you want to argue politely , disagree politely, you are very welcome.
By the way Machiavelli is not quoted today as a dictator but a cynical political strategist.Mike
Beautiful song. It nice to see artists putting their hearts into supporting critical thought. This has helped bring this to the mainstream.
If there were no case to answer the scuttling would have gone ahead as planned. It is unfair to blame any Avoca residents for 'lost income' from the weekend festivities. Terrigal wants it, then let them have it, but don't put it on the sandbar at Avoca - it really will ruin the beach, the waves and relations with neighbouring towns.
You both do have beautiful voices. However I do wish that you knew and could see the environment this type of wreck provides for the creatures of the ocean. A gorgeous ecosystem of life that would have become a marine sanctury. The only one on the central coast. It would have something we could have been proud of.
. Expert opinion asys that this will attract sharks because it will be, as you say, a great fish breeding ground. We don't want that. Surely it's our choice if we breed fish 12 boat lengths off the beach or not. The new film shows (The sinking of Avoca's brand) we already have a great identity, a great brand and we don't want to add to it in this way,
Off Terrigal it'll breed as many fish and become the sanctuary you propose. Mike
@MikeRubbo - What is wrong with attracting sharks? You use the word "we" like its a global consensus. Globally, 4 people are killed by sharks annually. 100 MILLION sharks are killed by people annually. You are more likely to be killed by a vending machine, donkey, coconut, lightning; than by a shark.
P.S. Nice voices. I don't agree with your lyrics though :)
Hi stupid vegokid. What's wrong? Esp. since sharks are endangered and certainly deserve a break. What's wrong is that our economy lives of Avoca's reputation as a clean safe family beach. Sure, there's been shark attacks before and our brand survived. So what's the worry, you say?
But with the ship just close, becoming the explanation for every bad event, shark sighting, debris, etc. that's brand damage which neither the ship, not us, can easily repair. Ask yourself, is it with it?
Scuba, another thought re creatures of the ocean. Just south of us is a marine sancurary in which the dumping of this ship would never be allowed. if its is such a great asset, why not allowed in marine sanctuaries?
The sanctuary is supposed to extend up past us, then there would not be a question, No ship, period.
Finally as Gary points out in the new film, if you dump a shopping cart or old car in the sea, you're a neanderthal. Dump equiv of 4000 cars and that's called smart?
Beautiful song, wonderful project, beautiful songmakers! Bravo, and keep up the good work! I still haven't understood whyTerrigal's bay isn't getting the Adelaide, since it is only going to benefit the company that is installed in Terrigal. What kind of benefit could there be for Avoca?
I love the song! it is beautiful, and has something important to say! The musicians are beautiful, too. Keep up the good work! If we live in a democracy, we need to defend our freedom of speech, our freedom of song! Bravo!
Two beuatiful people are singing about a precious place like our Avoca Beach. What a GREAT SONG !

I think Nick & Liesl are lovely and their music is intended to do nothing but entertain with the best intentions.

A great protest song. There should be more like them. It encapsulates the struggle with grace and dignity.

There are already many diving sites in our area and if you want to dive go ahead.
Commericial diving operators should have investigated the area and asked the locals before putting their plans.
They did not do so. There was no consultations with Avoca people. It was a big mistake.
