Do you have any plans to do this again with the new 30" Stanley FUBAR? It looks like it's actual haligan sized. And I'd like to see a video with you actually using this one and/or the 30" as a haligan to breach a door.
Couldn't you just use a regular old school crowbar and save yourself all the work? I guarantee you I could breech a door with a basic crowbar any day of the week.
That disc is barely broke in at 9:16. An 80 grit flap disc, or the ("sanding disc" u used later), after that point would have done you a great favor, it will polish it like a mirror. In fact, I would have used a flap disc. Its quicker, cleaner, and doesn't heat up anywhere near as a grinding disc. Otherwise, pretty good video.
Why not simply buy the "Truckman's Tool" off any of the many fire/ems/LE stores online? It's basically a purpose-built version of what you made, manufactured out of superior material. Seems like, if one is really interested in having a quality breaching tool for not too much cash (about $65) it's better to invest in a tool created with specific design and build considerations in mind...
Guess I don't get it. You took a demo tool that works fine for breaching and cut it up to ruin the warranty. We use them at the fire dept just fine as the come.
@BigBodySmallBrain Torch would certainly cut through it, but change the temper and destroy its strength in the process rendering it useless, Chance of breaking the first time you used it. A cutting disc and flap wheel are more precise and more suited to the job.
THE LARGEST AXE IN THE WORLD. If you would like to see the second of its kind made, The largest axe in the world, please go to ebay, and in the search box, type in: 130569369041. It would make a wonderful addition to a collector's arsenal, or a retiring gift for a fireman leaving the force, or a gift for the winner of a lumberjack competition. If you are the type of person that likes to have something different than others, this is for you, it has SERIAL NO. 2, completely hand made, USA
@RnW93 Not a bad idea. I remember seeing a special "hatchet" type tool on a MC130 for cutting through aircraft skin. It had some type of spike on one end. ~Eric
@ITStactical only problem i can think of is the spike causing sparks whilst hitting metal, and sparks in a car crash with petrol everywhere isn't good, and yeah, aircraft pilots typically have some form of axe/tool for freeing themselves out of a wreck
You've really done a great job with this tool and it's such a practical solution if you don't mind doing a bit of work. Thanks so much for posting this ITS!
just a few thoughts... wouldnt you want use a rasp to put a better edge on that, and wouldnt you want to avoid paining the edges your gonna stick into say a door frame? the paint would cause sticking and would chip. really like the pattern tho.
Okay so I just cut my fatmax with a Dremel. Worked well, but angles were a little difficult due to the size of the discs; still it cut all the way through. Instead of cutting the piece off altogether though, I've cut a shape into it based on a hose wrench. We'll see how that works and if it doesn't I'll cut the whole piece off.
I tested this on a few things. First the cut I made allows me to open hydrants and work on hose couplings. Excellent! Then I took it to a couple of vehicles and the longer end seems to work better for me at prying the metal. Doors don't just pop open, but I can bend them quite well. Same for the trunk & hood; enough for someone else to get another tool in. Makes nice holes in windshield glass; still need to see if I can "cut" a line with it though. Haven't tested on wood doors.
have you seen the 30" FUBAR not very portable but would make forcing car doors open much easier, if you had to do that(i have and hydraulic is much better but stuff breaks). just a tip when ever using a grinder, you want it to; if it catches to pull away from you. it is very easy to how to i put this... slice your guts out in a very efficient manner.
Eric - for an extra touch, wrap the grip section with the grip tape used for a tennis racket. Not only does it provide extra traction, it prolongs the life of the tool since the grip is replaceable (and it looks better).
I just bought one of these about an hour ago; thanks to your video. I'm going to play with it as is and see if I need to make any of the mods you gave above. It's looking like a nice little tool for breaching. Thanks for the vid!

Not to be critical, but obviously you are neither a Firefighter or a metal worker. Having spent the last 20 years as both, I can honestly say that tool is a joke. I ask a question, how is the FATMAX made?
@ITStactical Have you considered shortening the spike at the bottom? That thing flares out to the left. So if you use this tool to breach doors or whatever, each time you pry back you will risk getting flesh ripped by bottom of the tool.
Could this be used "as-is" to some degree of effectiveness when breaching? I don't have any power tools, and only have a small metal saw that struggles with aluminum.
could you imagine paintinig a hum-v with that stuff im sure that they use larg ind. spray guns up still could you imagine... id take 5 cases of that stuff
@thinkagain96 I didn't go into breaching on purpose. That is something I would recommend you get hands on training with and make sure you have a legitimate trainer.
@ITStactical well im not sure of the handle construction, but i would like to at least get rid of the yellow borders. if it is just rubber coated over the steel tool i would maybe remove it and have a more simple slimline handle. then again i havent held this tool so i dont know how i could do it yet.
I think you had a blast editing this. Cool audio effects on the FAST-FORWARD. great job!

@TheKodiak72 The Steel Claw bar weighs less than a pound; the Fubar is four pounds plus.

another pretty good idea would be to grind that flat point up top into a spike, could come in handy for ripping open metal panels and the like

it probaly would have been a good idea to use some oil or water to cool the metal to avoid damaging to heat treat.

A hint for safety, make a habit of always laying down your angle grinder with the disk facing upwards.
Otherwise, if you accidently hit the switch while picking it up, or if you lay it down while the disk is still spinning, violent things may happen.

You may want to re-temper the tool after all that grining. The heat will ruin the temper in the "worked" areas, causing it to be a little weaker.
