ive watched this video bout 20 times now haha, love the nostalgic feel to it! I am currently collecting Denys Fisher Doctor Who toys at the moment and i must say it is very difficult to obtain mint examples, i have MIMB Doctor and MIMB K-9 so far.
@chrisaira Well, at least you've moderated your judgement from "rubbish" to "OK". Bear in mind that the toys you like are of the noughties - such detailing wasn't possible 30 years ago. I had an R2D2 which made a "plink plonk" noise when you turned its head around. But I didn't think it was "rubbish"; it was quite clever, really. Apart from the TARDIS and Bessie, I wasn't that impressed with Corgi - too small, not well proportioned. ;-)
@chrisaira And these are "classic" toys. The Dalek was the probably - almost certainly - the most accurate and detailed Dalek toy or model until the 80's or 90's with the likes of Sevans, and then, of course we've also had Product Enterprises.
@chrisaira Do you also think that the new series makes Tom Baker's era look like rubbish? This was before video tapes, when all we had were our imaginations and Target books - and, you know what, it was pure magic! These toys were very expensive at the time and my parents could only afford the Doctor, K9 and a Dalek (over several Christmases, not all at once). I made my own TARDIS out of cereal boxes. Until DAPOL came along, this was it!
@Peterdalek I agree. No doubt, something will come along which makes today's DVD's and action figures dismissible as "rubbish", too! I played with the Weetabix cardboard figures. I made a Dalek out of a toilet-roll tube and some matchsticks. To me, it was real. I like Videos. I can stop them where I like and pick up the story again without having to wait for the disc to be read (or mis-read and reloaded) and the menu to come up.
My Brother and I had that Tardis, and that Tom Baker figure! I think we got it round about Christmas 1978. Don't have them anymore though (sob!). I would have been about 5 years old. Happy days.. (sigh!)
The buttons on top are part of a system to make the Dr 'disappear' . You just twirl the center light which spins the inside of the TARDIS and press the red button to vanish and the green the appear.
WOW, there's something really retro and nostalgic about that! Especially the line "Dr Who" and the Dalek, Cyberman and Robot figure on that alien early Star Trek like scenery.
Perhaps.. but toy making technology has come on in leaps and bounds since 1976. Back then these were top-notch quality. The new range of classic Dr Who figures are magnificent too though. I'll be treating myself to them this Xmas. I'll be having 31 year old flashbacks that I think I'll need a good sit down and a stiff drink! lol.
@torchwood1879 £3.49 in 1978 would probably be around £15 in today's money. The CO figures are around £8 or £9, though sometimes you find the less popular ones on sale if you wait.
Thats a great video! Thanks much for sharing that!
(Really creepy music, its like an odd version of the theme of that era, like the company could not use the real theme, so they made a 'similar' piece of music..)
wow, Leela looks pretty good !
