His idea of VR is idealized. He thinks of a world that fools your brain so much that you will not know that it's a virtual world, so realistic.
About sterilization and other things that might sound bad, he see them as the lesser evil. We die by each others' violence, or we die peacefully of age.
This is interesting stuff. I've felt that I've always understood where Gary's coming from and have agreed with a lot of his points of view, but I've yet to see this video you're talking about. It's not sounding too good.
Seriously- see Robert Nozick's "Experience Machine Argument". I like virtual reality, but may I refer you to another Nozick idea, the idea of deontic side constraints on utility-increasing acts against individuals- that is, RIGHTS.
Very good video, the best and most addressed points I've heard against inmendham for a very long time. However I don't believe that there is anyway to save humanity other than stepping on other people's rights and basically pissing on people's freedom. Huamity and freedom in it's purest form cannot co exist because there will always be one joker there to take advantage. I don't believe in censorship so I really don't have an opinion on saving the world and helping people.
This virtual reality thing is incredibly stupid, in fact I can't believe inmendham came up with it, it seems more like something he would rip up in a video.
I'd like to answer the science question Gary poses in his response video.
As an object approaches the moon and comes under its gravitational field, it heats up and begins to carmelize, thus creating sugar. This extra sugar fuel gives it an energy boost, causing it to speed up.
No need for ovens. The sunlight striking the moon heats it up. The moon has no atmosphere to shield it from the sun's energy. That's why the surface of the moon is covered with powdered sugar.
eye realized i was blocked (by inmendham) this morning... guess due to being a sub of someone he did not like. I have never seen/heard you before, but I agree this treatment is unacceptable and I removed all subs in realtion. Your video helped me understand my hurt feelings.
Thnx
I appreciate you are not a user whom has made funny videos of inmendham. therefore your arguement stands
As fo VR well undoubtedly it could be great entertainment and may indeed provide practical assistance in investigating scenarios normally out of reach for human beings. I don't see it as a 'solution' to anything substantial. As for Gary well I've tried very hard to put aside his style but I realise now it's not just a style thing; he has utter contempt for life and other people. There is just no way to square human rights abuse with a desire to relieve suffering. I just don't believe him.

It's possible in theory to interface all the senses with a computer. I'd certainly like a virtual reality world co-existing with the real world, where people could live out their fantasies, and we've already got that, just not in as developed a state as it could be. As for Gary's hostile and aggressive style-I don't like it either, but I'm doing my best to see past it, and look it his ideas. He's just become caught up in the drama a little.

Kids says the stupidest things.
Good video by the way, the worst thing about Gary is his hypocrisy, I would give him a break if he didn't pretend to be on this moral high-horse.

LOL. Thumbs up.

OK wise guy, then what causes the moon to heat up? And you can't say ovens! There's no evidence for any ovens!!

Gary's ideas are crazy? Imagine that.

He has never been interested in relieving
suffering only in eradicating it. A typically
gary absolute. And aside from his crazy theories
about life he is a raging sexist of truly epic
proportions.You are well rid.
