  • I remind myself that it's just a feeling, and trust me, it does nothing to make me less anxious. A panic attack is what can happen in the presence of a lack of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. Intellectually understanding that doesn't change the chemistry of the brain and what it will do to you. I had a panic attack two years ago, and I went to the hospital to get medication for it. The attack lasted 7 hours before I got ativan to make it stop.

  • LOL water bottles are my safety blanket too!! All my friends know me as the girl with the water bottle.

  • For me, it's music. I will have my ipod with me pretty much 24/7.

  • Sometimes your panic attack can be relieved from changing the people you are around so that your life and mind can settle down, may take a few years. Maybe you have to have a lot of sex, so that your endorphins shift in your mind which shifts your mind back to normal, of course it has to be with the right partner. But till then don't go near your anxiety situations, where it turns on.

  • Another thing that helps, when anxiety isnt on its highest level is to write down whatever makes u panic. In once sentence on a small piece of paper and keep the paper around whenever u feel there is something making u anxious or your attack strikes. I find this very relieving. It gives my head a break from thinking, since I got it down on paper! Yay hehe.

    One problem I have though is that normal feelings tend to hide behind this facade of anxiety and anxious feelings..What to do about?

  • I've had anxiety disorder since childhood. First, I've tried fighting it, but that only makes it worse. Then, I learned about acceptance, but I applied it the wrong way: whenever i would feel anxious I would repeatedly tell myself aceppt it! accept! When's it gona be over? But then I realized that's the same as fighting. Fully accepting means don't spend your free time thinking about it, and when it does happen, breathe deep, and get on with normal happy thoughts, have a smile and it works!

  • To those who are mentioning The Linden Method, IT IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO CURE ANXIETY. I bought the Linden Method last March (almost a year) and it had ABSOLUTELY no positive effect. Sure, it may work for SOME people... but it's not the ONLY way. Don't get caught up in his trap. There are many other options out there... explore them!

  • Thanks girlie.... I just started to cry, not out of fear but out of relief that someone close to my age (23) has the same awful feelings. I started having these feelings in grad school and sometimes I start to fear other things that aren't even related (riding a plane and being stuck on there with no escape for 8 hrs in particular lol). I wrote down a lot of what you said and I feel better... I feel I can relate to you better than older people who are more likely to have this. Thanks :-)

  • I've been suffering from anxiety again for almost a year straight now.. all because of one stupid mistake..I used to suffer from it when I was younger.. I smoked weed and had a panic attack while on it.. ever since I could feel my heart beat in my chest and throat sometimes and so on.. eventually i started focusin on it while not being on drugs.. got over it.. then partied around a year ago.. tried E for the first time in years.. freaked out had a panic attack and been focusing on my heart since

  • I have to face the college campus in a few days, I feel trapped when I am 2 stories up and the class is 2 hours, I am always thinking, and if you saw me you would never know a 21 year old guy has been suffering from this since he was 12. I am letting it defeat me, Pills/Booze are short term, what will I do drink before class every morning lol? I can't, If anyone knows any good support website please share.

  • Have you tried linden method? Im also suffer from social anxiety for almost 10 years so i know how bad you feel..God know how much it make my life miserable..evryday Im just thinking about how scare i am to go to school and until now to university every single day!.to scare to do anything because people are watching..im just starting using linden method for a few weeks ago and its help me alot..it takes time but totally worth it..maybe this can help u

    What I find always calms me down, (nr.1), is pain killers for some reason. It always calms me down! I used it a lot a few months ago, but I realize it's not good for my body and it's really not helping at ALL. I've stopped using it though. The excessive use of it also gave me headaches all the time, but fortunately that has pretty much gone away too. I'll try drinking water from now on!! :)

  • Sometimes (still playing catch up) during a panic attack there is so much anguish it's really hard for people to "see" through it. ya know?

  • You are so right. A lot of the times, you are so caught up in your anxiety attack, that you forget to use your tools. But this again, is another step and tool to use. During an anxiety attack, we need to stop focusing in our anxiety, and remember our tools and use them. Focusing in on our anxiety only perpetuates the situation. :) Thanks for the response, it was a good one! :)
