They took control both violently and passive-aggressively; they committed economic and psychological warfare against the villagers of Tazmily, and they also brainwashed them into believing their garbage. If you didn't notice: They were Soviets ALL ALONG. They do look awfully Capitalist, though, unless you know Communism like a Russian.

The Pigs introduced money into their world, which is what Capitalism drives on. I think the theme of the game is how western culture, mainly our own culture in America, is the bullet in the gun pointing at the head of our planet. Things were better before we showed up, just as it was before the pigs did.

I always think that Porky/Pokey is a sad character in a way. He is what happens to a fat kid that has always been bullied and pushed around by others. He embraces total hatred for everyone around him because he has nothing else left. It's hard to tell a person that is kicked around that humanity is good. Yes, he did a lot of bad things but for example in Earthbound we find out that his parents were both big a-holes, and we are also told that he's an obnoxious kid, but not why.

If Nintendo released these games now, they would be sued for copyright infringement. Laws in the US are different than laws in Japan about copyrights. I'm sure if these games didnt have as much copyright infrindging songs and quotes and Earthbound had sold well, Nintendo would have no problem releasing these masterpieces.

How Porky became old :

He was left behind in the past after Ness defeated Giygas and had no choice but live in that time.

He lived trough hundrets of years to get revenge on at least Ness's descendant Lucas by usage of his brother Claus and forcing Lucas into the final fight of Claus's live.

All that beacause Picky told Ness about Porky and him wenting to see the meteor and he was scared and run away to Ness and Picky was sitting behind a bush.

So end's a story of a boy who was just a normal kid

I believe the game was targeting the idea of capitalism and cooperate manipulation more so than America. The Pig Mask didn't take control of the island through force the way the Spaniards did with America. It was more passive aggressive. They introduced currency to the villagers, they had Fassad promote the happy boxes, they invited villagers to work for the currency to buy the happy boxes. It was more like a campaign than an occupation.

My original point was that I don't believe there is any correlation between the pig mask and the Settlers of America. The notion that Mother 3 is a big allegory for the New World seems inconsistent with Itoi's style of story telling. There are also too many instances in human history where one group of people has subjugated another, it doesn't make sense to me to single just one out.

It was most definatly forceful and aggressive, even if many of the people where blind to it. HELL the game starts with pigmasks setting fire to the Forest around the town!

@belmontzar It's the fact that the pig masks were never linked to any of the crimes. To the townsfolk, the pig masks were just a bunch of friendly new neighbors who wanted to bring them happiness and take them away to a big beautiful new city. They manipulated through favor , I think more so than fear.

Stangely enough, I'm not so keen on a Mother 4. There would not be too much of a plot left for it. Giygas is dead, Porky is in captivity, there's no major enemies left.

But Mother 3 is my personal favourite game. It really is.
