Investers are business people and as any business person would choose, they never sell their products locally. The fact is that which local, let's say Ethiopian, can purchase the product with competive price as foreign dollars can do? The bottom line is that the African leaders are hungry for money and they are selling away people's life to extend their power and earn their living. The future is extremely frightening (social and politcal unrest with terrible civil WAR). No one sits and dies!

These investments will also bring a much needed foreign currency.
Besides, NO ONE can own land in Ethiopia, not even Ethiopians, all land is government controlled. These contracts are LEASED, so it's not given away like some people seem to believe. This might be different in other African countries.

There is no such thing as idle land in Gambella, or anywhere in Ethiopia. The idle land is a land in-used for centuries in different forms by locals. Indeed, there are already complaints by locals that they lost access to grazing land and water. People in Gambella now working at Karuturis palm oil fields as daily laborers also have already started complaining that they were much better off working there own land. The fact of matter complaints of inhuman treatment started surfacing.
The next major war will play out in Africa. West is working hard to prevent East from acquiring Africa's resources to advance, at the same time they are preventing Africans from enjoying Democratic living by propping up dictators & corrupt regimes as long as they obey West's instruction. This is without the consideration to the need of Africans. This will undoubtedly result in major conflict down the road, add impending water shortage, you have the perfect recipe for a dangerous storm as they'd.

The fact is that which local, let's say Ethiopian, can purchase the product with competive price as foreign dollars can do?
