  • how do you do what he said at 1:57 running it through "apples compressor" to output ProRes 422? Is he talking about the compressor in Final Cut?

  • @Fortyn9n3 In final cut studio you get:final cut pro 7 - motion - colour & compressor.

Compressor is a separate program used to compress or convert files/sequences ect into and variety number of formats.

  • Mind = Blown

    Want Chase's job so bad!

  • a lot of back ups involved

  • hmm, youtube must be broken. Its only showing half of my views...

  • You make simple things seem complicated.

  • OMG....

  • Whoa, how do you work with all that noise?

  • Need a coloured video rather than black and white.

  • @achaser123 What's your workflow on deleting data? how do you do that? cause you've to delete 2 backups. do you delete all RAW after finished or do you delete nothing?

  • @dBAstopmotion They probably batch edit everything before backing everything up, saves time and drive space. I may be wrong though so don't quote me.

  • @dBAstopmotion RAW's are your negatives. Never delete RAWs.

  • Hey guy's this guy is A pro And thats how a PRO should work !!!

Great video chase and thank you for sharing all this info.

  • viado fela puta

  • Excellent video. This is a very professional setup. How much did all that hardware/software/cameras cost?

  • @rickmosesproxy Awesome question, but im sure the answer will always remain as a mystery :P

  • png or tiff? which is a better to use for your final images?

  • @eyesz raw

  • @eyesz Tiff is an non compressed format. So ...

  • yay he uses Nikon and Apple AND G-Technology :D All 3 great companies :)

  • @Mas7erChief117 Damn, I'm using Microsoft, Canon and Western Digital. All 3 pretty good companies as well. I'm starting to like apples workflow for files like these though

  • @Purepromedia yea, apple knows whats up lol

  • the secret location is under his matress.

  • I am confused.

  • why not do online backup, server to server...

  • @zirchsoft while it can be safer in some situations, it is more expensive and it takes a lot more time to do.

  • @Mas7erChief117

might cost more can be a factor. but takes more time to do it isnt true. actually, it takes more time doing what they do. you can have online raid backup to your server, and all computers are hooked up on the server, so 1 point of backup place. but can also be done on individual pc's. and the expense is not that high. u can create an online backup program yourself actually, that would then be cheap. if u get online backup service from other companies, it costs of course...

  • Holy crap. I'm jonesing over one stupid Apple Cinema 30" display and then I see this. Your studio is Victoria's Secret and I'm saving up for something in a size 14 on the sale rack.

Also, someone said they wish they had $100k. I doubt there's a mac in there worth less than $3000, and those are probably you're travel laptops. The Mac Pros are most likely holding 64MG RAM each? The window treatments probably cost $100k.

Finally, yeah, why Aperture over Lightroom?

  • OMG NERDPORN

  • AWESOME! would be nice to be part of this team..

  • do you keep all your files

  • you are really out of league!!!!

  • why you don't use lightroom?

    why aperture?

  • in AWE !

  • Surprised you don't back up to the internet instead of dozens of hard drives. Seems like something like an unlimited Mozy account (a homebrew version, at least) would give you even safer, unlimited storage with a lot less hassle.

  • @mamessner Download speeds are far too slow to do that when dealing with video and full photo shoots (especially with the hasselblad).

  • @mamessner Because they need the data quick if there is an emergency. Mozy is very slow to restore, and also takes up a lot of bandwidth to upload- working with Terabytes of data is near impossible to replicate w/ Mozy on a daily basis. What these guys are doing is excellent.

  • No worries - found out. It's She's Wearing that Costume by Head Like A Kite.

  • What's the song at 3:20?

  • thank you very much

queer-it's not buyable in the iTunes store -.-

  • thank you very much

queer- the song isn't buyable in the iTunes store -.-

  • could someone tell me the name of the second song which is playing during the mountainbike shooting

    thanks in advance ;)

  • @Prophoto2403 It's "we're always on the wrong side of sunrise" by head like a kite (from their 2010 Album Dreams suspend night)

  • I wouldn't wanna work with ordinary drives in the field. SSDs are just more durable and tougher than mechanical drives - not to mention that they are way faster than any 2,5" mechanical drive.

    For field work I use:

    MBP 15" with 64GB SSD

    2x 240GB external SSDs

    HyperMac 150Wh external battery

All of the stuff fits nicely in a 1490 Pelican Case.

What you use in your studio is way more flexible and depends on your individual needs (for speed and space).

  • That is alot of drives !

  • this is a promotion by g-tech. its the reason they used the SSD drives for location mirrors, to the expensive raid externals. no one could afford all of this but it could be scaled down. like using a drobo for studio/home storage, and some HDD based field drive(s).

  • Spent 8 years in the military as a combat photographer. A lot of the steps are the same. We used PC in my shops, but for my own personal ventures, I use Mac. My experiences moved me from Photoshop to Lightroom, and I'm migrating from Lightroom to Aperture as I continue to learn and practice with Aperture 3 more and more. It's a brilliant and fully capable program.

  • Geez... to much to me to come over :)

  • 3:55 EXTRA LARGE lol love how he says it

  • Their building is easy to find, it's surrounded by military personnel.

  • Can anyone identify the speakers they're using at the video editing workstation? From 6.33mins onwards

  • @g42cru LACIE 130811 USB STEREO COMPUTER SPEAKERS

  • Es un anuncio de apple?

  • @placidop no creo! ellos sólo nos dan una idea para que puedas tener un buen backup para tus fotos/videos

  • i'm backin up, backin up, backin up... (8)

  • 5 people appear to hate themselves and their pathetic lives!

  • @boxonboxcollections I realize that Acers suck and Apple is better. Hence the reason I mocked the Windows douchebags that brag about their shitty, unstable hardware.

  • what song is at 3:27?!

  • Bill Gates must have 5 Youtube accounts.

  • Time for all the the Windows douchebags to come and comment on this video: "Apple fucking sucks my Acer that I got at Costco for $599 can do everything Chase's $100,000 Apple setup can do. God the iPad sucks."

  • @themainewoods Your acer dosen't have the pixel density or accurate color balance that all macs have and you cant run apple final cut or other apple software and you can run 2 operation systems on a mac so there is no restriction to what you can and cant do macs rule

  • get a life!!! and if you into photo/video you should do some serious reading and research before writing such a stupid comment. i have never seen an Acer in any editing studios, nor pro photographers and no were else!!.. but any way, good luck!!

  • @boxonboxcollections Wow. Get a life? Get an English Textbook, go to the index and find the chapter about quotation marks. It should read something like this: "quotation marks represent a passage of text or a word/phrase that someone [not the author] has previously said or written." Then re-read my comment and realize that I'm quoting what other people (Windows douchebags) have said.

  • @boxonboxcollections acer is a brand, most people that knows anything about comupter built their own...

its just stupid to bring up this "mac vs windows" thing, the mac users won´t change beacuse i tell them and the windows users won´t change beacuse u are saying it.

Also this was the first time i´v seen an apple server, linux are the best server OS!

Neither i have never seen a pro-photographer that uses apeture, most of them are using lightroom though its much better.

  • bomb proof!

  • Really informative video! Actually modifying my work using the tips! Speaking of the file structure on the servers, do you do the same for the Live Work area of the server? For the date, do you use the date when it was shot or when the PSD was created?

  • Comment removed

  • awesome! looks like i need to get that ds1010+ extension companion soon.

  • I'm always afraid in the time betwen i finish shooting and backup my memory card to hard drives.

A year ago memory card just stopped working after the shooting and i lost all files...that was really really bad for me and the client.

  • As if they didn't have enough Apple electronics...why not throw an iPad in there? It's almost pointless, but it has the Apple on it so they must have it.

Totally envious of these guys. Except the whole Nikon thing.

  • @ColeFromRochester the ipads are used mainly during CJLive for monitoring twitter. At least thats what i've noticed.

  • what camera did you use to film this video?

  • Do you use vault on Aperture too or only using the time machine?

  • if the video keeps breaking put it in 360P. Will sort it right out!

  • lol global warming might destroy more than just the studio. Didn't know studios backup all their files more than once.

  • great workflow!so many pro skills and equipments!thank you for sharing!!!

  • great workflow!so many pro skills and equipments!thank you for sharing!!!

  • Awesome! Nice set up! How do did you do the cool sketches showing the workflows? What software did you use?

  • @thefilmmakerpro More than likely Final cut or Premier elements.

  • @FanboyCraig Tidy :) I guess FCP seeing as he said that is what he used!

  • @thefilmmakerpro I know that they used Final Cut Pro for the line art and After Effects for 3D animation for example the airplane

  • @thefilmmakerpro After Effects

  • @thefilmmakerpro have you watched the little film. There he still explains everything!

  • Team Jarvis's workflow is sexy.

  • Chase - thanks for taking the time to do this up. I'm wondering - how do you work with A3 referenced files... when you delete the ref files it doesn't delete the masters, if the masters reside remotely. Is there a way around this? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience with the community.

  • I wonder what is the software they are using to make the illustrations looks nice.

  • Does anybody know if they use Apple Glossy monitors for photo editing? Because I have some second thoughts on using one of these....

  • @fiiip1991 On his site the monitor listed is the Apple Cinema 30-inch HD Flat-Panel Display

  • Thanks for the tips. Great back up system. You are really getting ready for 2012... LOL

  • Your music is REALLY annoying and drowns out dialog! Take a class!

  • @AV84USA I don't think there is a teacher that could really teach them anything.

  • the case is a peli case the peli 1490 with the laptop deluxe inlay i have it myself - great case

  • Backup this video too incase youtube fail

  • what hard case is that for the macbook?

  • @sartis01 Looks like a Pelican case that they've cut custom foam for.

  • Great advice - thanks - Conor

  • killer video! have you used final cut server yet? you could automate alotta this stuff :)

  • pretty awesome. now all I need is an apple server to back up my data! totally realistic for almost anyone!

  • FIRE BOMBED! HAHA. NICE!

  • Cool, I'm in the process of implementing dp Best practices workflow. I see lot of similarities here. Got to scale if for me!

  • Well I think your data, or anyone's data for that sake, is not safe, say if we were to hit by a gigantic eletromagnetic pulse. Every thing is gone right?

  • @vibesnake not if they are sufficiently shielded, or e.g. on optical drives :P

  • Can anyone tell me what song are they playing in the background on 00:34 - 2:24 please thanks!

  • @PatrickMascart @MiamiViceStyle the card reader is a SanDisk Extreme SDDRX4-CF-901. I have 3 of them myself.

  • if only everyone had 100 grand to spend on all that gear... there is no way i could afford half of this!!!!

  • @bamafan1612 agree..
