I've heard the recorded cover version by EV/Pearl Jam and he did a great job covering this song by the Beatles. This is a live performance; a little rough, but it's still heartfelt. I love EV's voice too - very soulful.
Eddie's voice is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard But this song is just uncoverable for me . Lennon and The Beatles made THE perfect song , you just can't touch it anyway . Even if I love this version .
Eddie by singing a Beatles song is making young people who don't know the Beatles as well as we do, aware of their music. I met ALOT of young guys who tell me that this is their favorite Pearl Jam song, of course I tell them it's not theirs but yet they are curious to know who's is it. Vedder is a Beatles fan and as a fan he is contributing to young people to get to know the Beatles. Pearl Jam will always rock and so will The Beatles. Two great rock bands. SO STOP FUCKING BASHING EV.
yeah, just like krist and dave from nirvana are still spreading the beatles word, and also kurt was a huge fan, ozzy, alice all great musicians pre 50s are influenced by them ehtier directly or trough bands that were influenced by them.

A perfect cover. This is the Beatles, you don't go messing big time with these songs,it was done his way,but he took no chance to change a song he thinks it is the way it should be and stay.
I hate when someone covers a song and they take "vocal liberties". Unless you have a really special voice, just sing it the way the original band sings it.
Sparky, I too, grew up w/ the Beatles...and I agree w/ you. This guy did a fine tribute of that ol classic. In fact, he' honoring group w/ his singing ...it's respect!
personally, i think it's cool when artists do covers of songs. pearl jam has many of their own good songs...they're just paying tribute to the beatles. they obviously like them, and so do alot of other people.
there's a band called rain, and they do only beatles songs. they don't sound exactly like them, but i think many would agree it's cool to see these guys dress up like them and sing their songs. am i right?
I grew up with the beatles music also , but I realize that although no one could be the beatles or do their music better obviously, their are still fans like this guy from pearl jam who loved them too and just wanted to show his respect with a tribute song like this . He wasn't trying to be better or be a beatle , he just wanted to express himself. Thats what real musicians do and I dont even like pearl jam
I heard this on the radio. Having grown up with the Beatles version, I thought Eddie did a great job. no one sounds like John Lennon..but this audio has alot of echo. Nice, though!
I actually think that this is more what the Beatles had in mind when they wrote this. The harmonica is better than the flute for this song, which is trying to immitate Dylan.
John Lennon wrote this during his "Dylan" period. He even admits this many times. And since Dylan likes Vedders version of the song I don't think anyone will be upset by that.
Saw them for the first time in '08...I've been blessed to see in my lifetime including Janis in one of her early concerts. . .I can truly say Eddie was right up there. . .and as well known as he is he still gives a long awesome concert. . .truly a pro!
Eddie rocks! Pearl Jam is always a wild concert. Saw them again recently and was blown away by another cover they did-- the Who's "Love, Reign O'er Me". One of the best bands still out there. I gotta post me some Vedder soon! Peace
yes...post them soon!!! they do the best covers of anybody out there...outside of being the band that saved R&R...haven't seen them yet...but I will before I die....
Thanks Eddie for your patronizing response!I don't feel the least bit unfortunate nor do I feel that I am confined to a lower level of spiritual awareness for not feeling that way.I find it interesting that I am "warped" for having an opinion that hasn't changed for over fifteen years. What do I as a listener and musician know?Over the years Eddie's performances strike me as mostly calculated and tepid.Coltrane and Lennon were passionate-I hear that. Clearly, I must be out of touch with reality!
"Eddie Vedder is pretentious posing bozo...Thats the problem with him-he acts it-he doesnt feel it..."
thats such shit man.if youre not eddie himself then i doubt you know what hes feeling.hes done some pretty fucking amazing covers of this song.dont judge this cover by all the others hes done.
Ronald Reagan was an actor, so was Arnold Schwarzenegger.... so what are you saying? Can't trust them? Maybe you even got a point there, but with politicians, not musicians...
youre a fucking asshole piece of shit you dont know shit about anything i dont know how eddie feels but at least i dont make stupid fucking comments like this. son of a bitch motherfucker, you
i dont think this song can be played without love and passion and emotion. eddie's performance is a beautiful tribute and watch pearl jam perform live on SNL cuz that was quite an emotion filled/ energetic performance.
friggin awesome tribute by Eddie...and I agree completely that it has to be sung with love and passion...John was basically telling the world that he was married to Cynthia at the time but it would be "bad" to have one of the Beatles married...I still play this to this day and it always gets a great response...most ppl in my audience know every verse? It wasn't even one of their most popular songs but I swear everyone knows every lyric? A tribute to John's songwriting skills I guess?
I was also at Camden on friday night for this, it was cool when Eddie came on way before the opening act to play this and have the whole crowd sing with him.
this is such a good cover i usually hate it when people cover beatles songs but this is a great job...i was at the concert last nite in camden and he opened up with this song and everyone went wild and they were all singing with him it was great!!
I definately love the Beatles version opposed to this one. But I love the fact that Eddie is a Beatles fan and covered this song. Any homage payed to the Beatles is great. And PJ is my second favorite band after the Beatles.
I've been reading a lot of comments over the years on Youtube. Some funny, some mean, some racist, and some are nice and polite. But I MUST admit...this is the DUMBEST comment I have ever read. Ever. In my whole life. 10 Best Presidents ever?!! Give me a fucking break!! Who voted? The Saudi's or the Isreali's? Look where this country is, and where it was 8 years ago. This fucking place has gone to hell. He is literally retarded.
Kenberg. You have called me "dumb" for something I had no choice in. What I said was not opinion, but fact. America voted in a nation-wide survey, to answer your question.
I have this much to tell you, though.
If you are going to try to insult me for being less intelligent than yourself, at least try to word your reply in a manner that makes you seem like you know something. Less vituperative language, more facts and opinions.
I dont recall calling you dumb. But I do recall calling your comment dumb. There is a difference. I am willing to bet that when the Nation-wide survey was taken. It was right around the culmination of the media brainwashing. You know, the whole terrorist bullshit, the whole invade Iraq because they're the bad guys thing. Bush is one of the worst presidents ever. Look at the concsistency of his poles. And just because you try to use $5 words, doesn't mean you're smart. PS. I only mentioned facts.
Sure the sounds is bad but i was part of the public and i can swear you that it was so great ! Vedder is the best singer nowadays, so great ! thanks for this very good concert
I've heard the recorded cover version by EV/Pearl Jam and he did a great job covering this song by the Beatles. This is a live performance; a little rough, but it's still heartfelt. I love EV's voice too - very soulful.

friggin awesome tribute by Eddie...and I agree completely that it has to be sung with love and passion...John was basically telling the world that he was married to Cynthia at the time but it would be "bad" to have one of the Beatles married...I still play this to this day and it always gets a great response...most ppl in my audience know every verse? It wasn't even one of their most popular songs but I swear everyone knows every lyric? A tribute to John's songwriting skills I guess?

It was a cover. It WAS art, stolen by Pearl Jam.
It was chill, though.

Cool that Eddie pays tribute to the beatles.
off course his voice is lower, a cover is never mend to be compared, for sure if it in concert and not for sale on cd,
So all of you comparing are a bit" simple" really.

the beatles are WAY better his voice is waaaaaayyyyyy to low conparied to john lennons

I definately love the Beatles version opposed to this one. But I love the fact that Eddie is a Beatles fan and covered this song. Any homage payed to the Beatles is great. And PJ is my second favorite band after the Beatles.
blackspace007 3 years ago
DANG! the guy who sang this has a low voice tht doesn't sound how the beatles sing it
iBealteFan 3 years ago
Singing carbon copies of songs is for boy bands.
Ed's a Beatles fan, he makes allusions to them in his songs.

bush is a fag
flrocker93 3 years ago
If Bush is so awful, how did he get elected to President twice and rated one of the best 10 Presidents of all time?
Sure, he has made a lot of bad decisions, but he has also made many, many good ones.
I am also assuming that the Electoral College knows something that we don't. Bush has lost popular vote, but then again, even Democrats voted for him.

He is literally retarded.
kenberg27 3 years ago
'nuff said.
smitty01209 3 years ago
I dont recall calling you dumb. But I do recall calling your comment dumb. There is a difference. I am willing to bet that when the Nation-wide survey was taken. It was right around the culmination of the media brainwashing. You know, the whole terrorist bullshit, the whole invade Iraq because they're the bad guys thing. Bush is one of the worst presidents ever. Look at the concsistency of his poles. And just because you try to use $5 words, doesn't mean you're smart. PS. I only mentioned facts.
kenberg27 3 years ago
I've voted my self the best President ever... lol
nicos808 3 years ago
why the hell do all of you have to be talking about bush???? why can't we just talk about the song??
