first of all runing a game well enough in wine isnt good enough. Gamers like to play what they paid for. Although wine can run lot of games, without issues, it's best to stick with a dual boot if you really want LInux and Windows. WIndows is best os for games, there is no question about it. This is mainly because of the funding and the B.S monopoly system it has maintained. Wine is a terrible program in my opinion, it wont even run age of empires properly without issues. Stick with Win for games
can you run games through wine on full screen or just in a window please reply because i think of getting ubuntu on my pc and im just wondering is it worth it!!! Thanks!!! :)
It will work both in full and in window modes. I ran Counter strike source without problems. Worked great for me. Some programs do not run at all or it will run then error out but it does get better and better. I would just recommend you get a second HDD to install it to learn how to use it. Google will be your friend if you don't mind reading websites on how to. But as for me I will drop Windows like a bad habbit in a few years. I will probably keep it on 1 pc. But the rest will be linux.
I found a way to try out different OS without harming my PC at all!!! It's a program called virtual PC which allows you to install OS on a virtual PC by taking a bit of your PC's ram which is great!!!
Yeah but virtual pc is limited by emulating the common video card and sound card back in the old days. The real deal works much faster. But you are right to just to see how it works before installing it on a real HDD. Also used for as for a testing platform.
Thanks for all the useful info I will download ubuntu tommorow and test it if I have some spare time :) You have been great help for me with all the info and fast respond time :D OK i gues thats all i wanted to say (write) i subscribe you :)
lol you can try out linux with a live cd almost all of em have this feature... this way you can try out everything and its faster than virtual pc or any program like it
Yes in the wine config. you can chose run in DX9/10 window or full screen. with the DX? it makes it to where you mouse doesn't leave the screen as well.

I would think you can play it on full screen somehow but he just didn't to prove it was on Ubuntu.
That said, I've never done this so don't know.

Vindix007 2 years ago
See my Painkiller Overdose video ;)
But that was done a time ago, and the screencast made the performance quite bad.
