  • is this a real train smash or a mock up 4 training services??

  • @imaghostbuster36 it actually happened

  • Super 8 all over again =)

  • I lol'd

  • fuck actually thot it was one of those "fake" crappy videos...how dumb of the driver 2 not attempt emergency brakes despite seeing where he was goin!

  • @bhainsad He did hit the emergency brakes.

  • @Jayhoyt32 rite..only realised dat the 2nd time i watched it!

  • @bhainsad when you heard the sound of air rushing out, that was the emergency brakes

  • that was a huge frog at 00:06 !!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • All I can say is, WOW!

Yeah, totally sounds like the air was dumped. Clearly human error at work in this accident. Not sure why the engineer didn't realize it sooner, but still, it's still going to crash. Why not a visual on the switch state? He probably simply didn't expect it and wasn't looking for it.

That must have been a mess.

    Glad they survived.

Interesting there was a huge settlement like that. Sort of points the finger doesn't it?

Probably messed him up pretty well.

  • holy smash 1

  • Of course in this day and age of GPS if you don't make track speed, you get hell by the trainmaster at the end of the run. And management probably got rid of the TCS/ABS signals to save money.

  • Track switch guy "ooops, my bad. Fell asleep on the job again."

  • Someone fucked up there. I mean they did not hit the brakes or go in to emergency stop until it was to late, they never knew the track was switched. I am not that old and I remember when they still had at place the manual switch tracks. I am sure this was a computer error, also glad to hear no one was killed.

Man I remember as a child in the 1980’s this would happen to high speed passenger trains. Sometimes head on, it was so sad.

    :(

  • @mothman197979 If you listen cairefully you can hear what sounds like the breakes being set before the train reached the switch. I'm not an Engineer so if sombody who knows trains can chime in please do so. but if the brakes were set at that speed and if the train is fully loaded it would take a vary long time for the train to stop.

  • @ruger111dog ya you are right, that sounds you refer to was the full emergency set up of the brakes but there is no way they would have stopped, at that point all you can do is say "shit, hold on" and hope you don't die

  • @willghass it's funny that you would think I believe that trains have steering wheels!!!

  • Hahaahaha for some reason I started cracking up when the train hit the other train.

  • Gotta love dark territory!! Ugh...

  • @ruger111dog. I think the question to be asked is, "are you serious that you're asking am I serious"? Do you honestly believe there are people in this world that don't know locomotives don't have the ability to steer in a different direction, or for that matter, have steering wheels? So yes I'm serious, why didn't he just steer in the other direction?

  • @Emarshall28 Hmmmmm what? I haven't the slightest idea what your trying to say with this comment. I was asking do you realy think a train can steer or were you just being funny and sarcastic thats all,

  • Jesus

  • Why didn't the train driver just steer in the other direction?

  • @Emarshall28 Are you serious?

  • @Emarshall28 Trains don't actually have steering wheels but can go in more than one direction. Their direction is determined by the position of the track switch, which is controlled by the train station. There must have been a miscommuication between the train and the station because it was in the wrong position which ultimately led to the collision.

  • @Emarshall28 Really?

  • @Emarshall28 The points were switch to the siding.

  • @Emarshall28 Hey bud, trains do not steer. They only follow the tracks they are on. There is brakes, forward and reverse. Several other things but that is the basics. That is a switching track, one train pulls over to let the other pass or whatever they are doing, the switch never got switched back to main line and bamo. You would be surprised how many people think engines are literally driven like a car down the tracks. That is some serious driving at 60 mph. LOL

  • you KNOW the engineer was like "OH FUCK!!!" when the train turned lol

  • 0:23 eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr CRUNCH

  • its only funny when the cargo is no flammable/combustible

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK

  • who left the switch open

  • 0:15 application of emergency brakes as the engineer realises the switch is lined back?

  • problem ?

  • lmfaoO I Fucking Love Train Crashes!!

  • no milk today i guess

  • LOL

  • y didn't he just take the other track in front of him?

  • @jdbeatbox97 because on railways the signalmen change your points not the driver

  • @jdbeatbox97 Last time that I checked there STILL wasn't a steering wheel in the locomotive cab!

  • @jdbeatbox97 are you fucking retarded? locomotives do not have a damn steering wheel!

  • @jdbeatbox97 someone still has to switch it, not possible when is moving...

  • @CptnHardcore09 i already have it im just playing saints row 2 since i beat saints row 3 already :P

  • And yet I got to this video after looking up Anime Trailer. O.O

  • @CptnHardcore09 best comment EVAR ! :D

  • damn

  • I thought for sure I was going to get Rick Rolled... so glad it was legit!

  • @kickerofelves123 Unfortunately - for the train crew - (but not for you), it was legit!

  • I believe this video deserves a "GEEZUS!!!"

  • Anyone hurt?

  • @5292Nate Both the conductor & engineer were seriously injured, but fortunately survived. The engineer sued BNSF for his injuries and won.

  • @LocomotiveEngineer2 Who was at fault? BNSF? Why?

  • @5292Nate Even though it was the brakeman on the local train crew, who actually failed to line back the switch, the conductor & engineer were also found at fault for not following rules/procedures for hand-throw switches in Trach Warrant Control (TWC) territory. As well, the dispatcher was also found at fault for failing to confirm with the crew that the switch had been lined back. The engineer on the coal train sued BNSF and was awarded a $3,000,000 judgment.

  • @LocomotiveEngineer2 Good for him.

  • @LocomotiveEngineer2 3million.? Holy Dollars.

  • Is a "train driver" the same thing as a locomotive engineer? I am a "melted metal putter" (aka welder) but am considering a career change.

  • @groundloop07 yeah. But most engineers are conductors before they are engineers. You get a feel for the rules of the "road" and chances of gettn a spot as an engineer are MUCH higher.

  • @groundloop07 In North America they (we) are called 'locomotive engineers'. However, in most of the rest of the world they are called 'train drivers'. Different terms to describe basically the same occupation.

  • @LocomotiveEngineer2 AAAHHH I see now thanks. For about five years I drove a flatbed tractor trailer over the road in North America and truck drivers, I learnred, have many names as well.haha. Thanks for what you do to keep our countrys blood pumping. Be safe.

  • @groundloop07 I mean't to mention that in light rail (commuter) & subway operations in N.A. the fellow who operates the train is very often referred to as a 'train driver', 'train operator' or 'subway operator'. However, freight, passenger (Amtrak) & yard engineers are referred to as locomotive engineers. Thanks & you be safe, too! :D

  • thats probably a bad thing....

  • fuckin eh

  • I'll bet that engineer shit a ton of bricks when that engine turned off the main track

  • good hitch, hold

  • wait. we're letting women control trains?

  • opps...bet that ruined some poor sap's day

  • TWO SWITCH MEN DIDNT LIKE THIS VIDEO

  • Comment removed

  • I worked in light rail for 10 years, and we had a rough interlocking at a facing point crossover with a old out of service freight siding and you'd look at thing and even though you knew you had proper indication and alignment and knew the switch on that old spur was spiked, I would cringe every time I ran over it until MOW finally got rid of it.

  • I dont know any official details of this incident, but it looked like a red aspect to me.

  • Ouch! I saw the glass shatter.

  • Would it be an idea to carry binoculars or something similar to check ahead? Obviously wouldn't work on blind corners but...

  • @kubapl90 that guy was then hired by another railroad. He remembered to switch the tracks and the train ended up ramming into a bunch of train cars on that siding XD

  • this really must have been a nightmare for the driver but I couldnt help but burst out laughting at all the crashing noise

  • THIS IS THE RESULT OF SLEEPING WITH SWITCHMAN'S WIFE AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY.

  • @RCMPareCriminals Good one

  • I'm sure someone spent some time in jail for this

  • @starguard unfortunately beihng incompetent isnt illegal, because the jails would be overflowing

  • @starguard you are wrong

  • @Boss302fan Probably..but I wonder what was done to whoever was responsible

  • @starguard The 4 BNSF employees that were found to be responsible for this collision - conductor, engineer, brakeman & dispatcher - were originally dismissed. However, they were all later reinstated.

  • who left the switch open the grain train was switching an elevator and forgot to close the switch behind the train as a result the train heads onto the spur and rams the grain from behind and derails. it was the switch mans fault he left the switch open. where I live every switch that goes into a grain elevator has an electronic lock on it when the lock is turned all signals turn red and in front of the train blue flags go up and tell other trains to stay off the spur until the lock is closed.

  • dont you guys qualify on physical characterisics of the road first? and , in any event, that reflective sign was visible way before the points were..but shit happens, im happy that you made it out alive

  • @21navyseabee Our railroad operating rules make it mandatory to go by switch points, not switch targets.

  • the engineer couldnt see the switch stand reflector was RED?

  • @21navyseabee I couldn't even see the switch untill 0:15.

  • I sure feel bad for the people who live in the homes right there if they were taking a nap on that rainy day. :-O

  • was this a spring switch? a couples weeks ago in chicago a cp freight going east bound out of the bennsinville yard and derailed cuase of negligence the switchmen never got out and reset the switch

  • This why I hate TWC territory.

  • oh shit..

  • It's not the driver's fault. It's the controllers fault for not switching the points.

  • Man. How long did this take? What's really wild is to realize that this accident continued after the 10 seconds of this clip!!!

  • A reminder to all that accountability should be pushed for our actions. If you cause another brother to perish, especially after incidents like Graniteville (and this), you SHOULD lose your job. Learn to deal with the responsibility of the job or get the hell out!!! We don’t need stuff like this happening year after year!!!

  • It's is sad, but dosn't this remind you of the flying kipper in thomas? but anyways this still sad.

  • Oh my God, thats terrible. just terrible. What a hell of a wreck.

  • @showgirl7able No they didnt lose their jobs they both died in this wreck. Sad day on thr Railroad ! Rest in peace my brothers !

  • Someone lost their job. Locomotives cost tons of money and I bet the company loved seeing that video. I hope no one got hurt in the locomotive.

  • @Showgirl7able No one died in this collision! Both the conductor & engineer - though seriously injured - were able to climb from the wreckage of their locomotive. The engineer has since sued BNSF, and won a large settlement for his injuries. If you Google: HQ-2006-79, you can read the actual FRA / NTSB Accident Investigation Report on this accident. (The 4 BNSF employees found responsible were originally fired, but were later reinstated.)

  • @Wharfratt5 wow the engineers got serious injured that means the camera is invincibe rite?

  • Dick to dick

  • cool

  • Hey, paul your the conductor so did you flip the switc bacK? "the what....?"

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone know if the signal was right but track still where wrong or if the engineer missed the signal? Can't read US signals.

  • last than thay saw was mllx

  • oooooooo hell

  • holy shit. i would kill that retarded idiot who forgot to swich the lever :/

  • HOLY SHIT

  • Where was this happening. Can you send me the end result pic

  • Yeah dark territory. It's a Bn line between Stratford tx and Amarillo tx. I've been on that line several times

  • Where was this at? Was th is in TWC territory?

  • If I was on a train about to hit another I'd say FUCK THIS NOISE MAN! Jump off the train and run

  • @RamblinRedNecks Jumping off of the train would likely get you killed. At that speed cars most likely came off the rails and you would get crushed before you could get on your feet. Safer to stay in the cab.

  • I bet someone lost their job for that screwup

  • I'm a train driver. You can hear the guys hit the emergency tap when they see the track isn't set correctly. Still gives me a shudder sometimes when you are approaching at speed and just for a second, even though you have a green light, you think "I wonder if the points are right...?"

  • @Wombat1965 Was this a signal failure? What went wrong? Was there a "fail safe" that failed?

  • @Organgrinder1010 the switch should have been lined back for straight track and locked when trains are traveling at that speed. Human error, I have done it in yard service but trains are moving at yard speed. It may have been someone with a key who didn't like the RR? I have been retired for years and still have my switch keys.

  • @Wombat1965 I've had this happen to me in a yard once where there was a switch opposed to me that was open and one behind it that was set to go up another siding All this was on a main line with ground throws that went up on different yard tracks. I don't know what it was that day but something told me to go slow in that area or else I could have been into a similar accident.

  • @Wombat1965 i know right!

  • @Wombat1965 Whoops! sorry Wombat1965 i ment to sent this to solidsnake2234

  • @Wombat1965 your a driver huh ever train"DRIVER" i know scoffs at the term and call them selfs engineers

  • @mello27 That's true in North America. However, in most other parts of the world they are called; 'Train Drivers'. And since 'Wombat1965' lives in Australia he is using the correct term to describe his occupation.

  • @Wombat1965 well... It's like banking : about trust...

If you can trust anyone than you're out of bussines...

If all employees would do their job 100% right no one would have a single problem...

    But since we're humans...

  • ABS fail

  • fail for the guy who forgot to switch the track

  • @solidsnake2234 I'm sure this was his last fail.

  • nice!
