  • I'm using a Kenton Midi - CV interface

  • Dude, you're a badass! thanks for the video!

  • niceeee

  • What are the 3 units? I would like to know. I should start experimenting with this kinda stuff, it's fascinating.

  • @mrBeatbrother agree

  • is that music?

  • yes

  • YESSS!!!

  • Niiiiiice ;)

  • sounds crystal-castles-esque

  • STFU

  • hey so i guess you're the only one that thinks that crystal castles' sound doesn't appear to come straight out of an arcade machine and end up great

  • Their sound comes from other artists' music. They sample. I don't know what you're trying to say, though.

  • Yay!! !

    Fun!! F u n!! !! :) :) :)

  • Hey what are u soldering to be able to hook up the 1/4 male cable to hook it up to Mixer or speaker.. i wanna be able to do that, so i dont have to put my Condenser mic up to to speaker on the toy.

  • He probably solders it to the speaker output. thats what I would do.

  • yeah, i do that too, it always works. i even had a toy that had an output on it that didnt work, soldered it to the speakers output and worked perfectly

  • on my speak and spell i did, and on my sks too, but on my speak and math i left the speaker and made a little adaptor for the earphone plug.. you can buy one at radio shack for like 2 bucks too.. great stuff btw.. !

  • Einmalig!

  • stuff i dreamed about as i kid

  • did you use midi to do this . how did u do this this is amazing

  • nice.

  • Man, you're fast!

  • can you explain a bit, what you have used to connect those with your midi equipment?

  • midi cords. HE probably retro fitted the toys for midi.

  • That must have been a hell of a fun project. Well done.

    KW

  • can you send me a pic of the inside of the speak and read?

  • did you take out the batteries and use a ac adaptor because i know where the bottom pots are that where the batteries are?

  • pot a beat and a non imposing string instrument like guitar or violin and that would be amazing successful song

  • this turned out pretty nice.

  • thats awsome man

  • wow!!!!

  • I had all three of these damn toys when I was 8 years old and now I am 36 years old and seeing what some people have done to these things is amazing I love it great sounds dude

  • makin lernin how two spelll phun

  • Absolutely SICK!!!!!!

  • VERY COOL!

Its neat to see you jammin out with a speak n' spell. Cool!

    Electro!

  • any tips on trying this my self, on a basic level, praps a video demonstration?

  • ITS REALLY COOL BRO..HOW U DO THAT?

  • Real Dope Concept. The beat can use alot more energy though. Nothing can compare to UR and Drexciya.....Respect.

  • I am scared that someone will get hurt by bent circuits. I also take pride in learning how the circuit works and to make one of my own. If you feel proud from a bent circuit think of how I feel after building the circuit from scratch. Take a look at my 8085 HEX CLOCK on you tube. I have never been to school. You can do it right. Have fun be safe!!

  • where can i find out how to modify a speak and spell like that?

  • drop me a private message, I'll send you some links

  • It has both noise and funk.

    Well done, sir!

  • class, ive never used my rm1x like that before, wonder if i can teach the old dog a new trick? LOL.

  • what kind of music is this , nice

  • i believe its called "awesome" music :P

  • awesome 4 sure

  • in all seriousness though i wouldnt have a clue...probably just "glitch" music?

  • Glitch-Hop

  • Glitch-Hop lol , thats cool one

  • its cool man i google its , and am trying to make it hehe

  • good on u bro :) what gear are you using to make it? me too :)

  • very old casio keyboard with ablton live 7 , any advice , links ...etc

  • hmmm, advice from me? just get crazy with it :) dont go downloading 20 thousand plugins...you will just get lost in them, go through them methodically one at a time and pull them apart. Also, if you are running PC, do a search for the "dblue glitch" plugin, its free. and, learn how things work :) i didnt for years, but now i am and its paying off :) learn how plugins ACTUALLY do all the things they do, makes it easier to do stuff instead of just using presets.

  • glitch-core or clicks and cuts

  • that is awesome. I love it

  • i wanna cercuit bent asimo xDD

  • lol

  • i never hered any of those bent like that before. good job

  • Totally dope, the way you modded those things is just awesome. Respect.

  • ma non hai un cazzo da fare di meglio per D...!!!!!

  • bent the shit out of those things

  • ROBOT

  • that shit is rad

  • Do have a tutorial on how to circuit bend these machines and use a midi controller?

  • its ... noise...noise ,music made on cuicetbends...

  • your moves are so swift

  • Almost looks like a fire hazard waiting to happen.

  • they look really nice

  • remarkable surreptitious bipedal proclivity arrangement dispense yielding mesmeric devotion acclaim

  • nice one eddie,

    respect!

  • insane...

  • how did you get midi out on those??

  • controlling pitch with a vactrol and a Kenton midi/cv coverter. highyliquid dot com sells a speak and spell midi kit to trigger sounds

  • You have got it going ON! I love your sound.

  • True artist

  • i like it

  • Dude this is a lovely beat! As stated before me, this rocks!

  • Dude! That rules.

  • you know I tried to bend my speak and spells and speak and math, but they did not come out so good....Awesome

  • wicked sounds !!!

  • Stop it ASMO! You driving me nuts, I can't get enough of it.

  • love when it speeds up

  • I'm insanly envious and must learn to do this immidiately!

If somebody can or has already posted some tutorials on soldering, assembling etc...

    That would be great!

Feel free to send me the link!

    Thanks.

  • This is pretty awesome. Inspiring, too.

    If you don't mind me asking a question;

What would be some good toys of this type to use that wouldn't cost a lot? (i.e., speak and spells are said to be a perfect starting point for circuit bending, but they're a little expensive for my budget because they're "vintage")

  • speak and math, speak and spell and the other one is? please someone tell me?

  • speak and read.

the red one is a Grillo Parlante, Italian speak and spell

  • thanks eddie..

  • baddass

  • highlyliquid dot com

  • dude where can i get one

  • yeah im kinda scared to build one cause i want to run it through my mv 8000 are they hard to do?

  • pretty simple if you can solder ok and read a simple schematic, it's just a few switches and some pots

  • cool can you give me the links and do you have measanger

  • Prety cool circuit man

    I WANT ONE!!!

  • how is the midi used?

  • I'm controlling the pitch of the speak and read and math via a Kenton midi/cv converter

  • sick shit man!

    keep it up

  • i was making a reference to the term " cuircit bending " not your obvious skills . if i offended you then im sorry . but read my comment again you will see that i was pointing the finger at people who think this is somthing magical , and not some random experiment

  • as i understand it " cuircit bending " is taking an electronic noise maker , kids keyboard furby , or whatever apart then making a cuircit between two contacts that were not supposed to be connected , this will (A) make a cool noise or (B) does nothing or frys a chip ,

  • thats sdounds fab wat did u use?

  • Glitchy Experimental!!! Sweet Autechre or Kid606 sound!!!

  • Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. Great stuff.

  • You made me miss acid man. Thanks!

  • Sounds very autechre like. Thumbs up for you dude.

  • I've got a Speak&Math and it's so shitty it short circuited on its own

  • Dont try to introduce it to coke. I know they say it works well cleaning car batteries (pure bullshit!) but it works better when you clean it with a little water then, drink the coke. Yeah, it works by giving thee the sugar needed to get off the couch and go scrub the terminals and not leave another stickier mess as well.

  • most listenable circuit bent vid ive found on youtube yet

  • you got that right. killer stuff. and an amazing amount of bending done to those S&S'

  • people have been bending circuits for a really long time

  • wheres the photo cells man?

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! You should do gigs the size of Woodstock

  • That's what I'm calling TECHNO!!!

    U R a genious dude!

  • are those....speak n' spells?

  • Damn it I want this!!

  • This is genius work. Top stuff, loved the vid.

  • what are those machines called again?

  • speak 'n' spell. a kid's spelling typing thing.

  • how you do this?

  • oh man, i'm in love with your toys. did you do the circuit-bend yourself or you bought the toys off somewhere?

  • yes, all my own work

  • are those on AC adaptors? how do you run the through the midi control

  • OMG greaat!!

  • sick man, niiice.

  • perfection

  • I love it!

  • freakin' AMAZING.

  • first 20 seconds of this + cant we all dream = FIT!

  • Pure awesome. I would love the effects on the Speak & Maths display.

  • RE : Carefull not to start a fire with all those wires lol. Good stuff.

yeah your right i am an electricer and i dont like the wires and it can start to fire.. !! :D

  • Carefull not to start a fire with all those wires lol. Good stuff.

  • Crazy unusual stuff the best thing I watched today.Could have been better with more sounds out of that RM1X but I guess it's just used for triggering.

  • SOO sick nice man

  • this makes me want to go out and get some damn speak n spell's

I love its dirty sound they make.

  • chingon brother

  • Me agian, sorry.

I take it they are being sequenced by the rmx1 ?

  • Thanks I will keep an eye out for that one. Like I said, I had the speak and maths version 2..ever seen that?

Oh yes forgot to say that I liked the video and the glitchin ;) You are now in my 'music tech nutters' play list, in fact you are the icon for it lol

  • Is that the math marvel? smaller without a screen.

    check datamath dot org

the rm1x is controling the pitch on the read via a kenton midi/cv converter, audio is then gated through a Korg Electribe R

  • What is the yellow speak & spell , I haven't seen this one ?

I have the rest and used to have the later speak & maths too.

I always wonder where people find the time to do this sort of thing...I barely get time to make music.

  • It's a speak and read, it comes with a book. It's quite rare, they crop up occasionally on ebay, but not very often.

  • Sounds like NIN had sex with Aphex Twin.

  • very Kraftwerk :) i like :)

  • it's like that movie "white noise", with micheal keaton...but not really.

  • ya it doesn't suck as much

  • badass
