It works much better using the Ableton Sampler for this, rather than Impulse. Sampler allows you to set the ADSR envelopes, polyphony, retrig/legato, etc.
hey i just got the trigger finger with ableton, i know how to assign clips threw midi assignment but , how do you assign the drum sounds (instruments) to the pads ?
Hey there. You need to create an instrument track and assign an Impulse drum sampler to it. Load the Impulse up with some sounds, and turn MIDI on for that track. The Trigger Finger comes with presets for Impulse - I've customized mine so I'm not sure what preset it is; the manual should tell you. Good luck!
thanks man i actually figured it out, but how would i make it so the sample stops playing as soon as i hit the next pad? that way u could only hear one chop at a time.. u get me?
As far as getting Impulse to stop one pad when playing another - only pads 7 & 8 can do that. You have to hit the "link" button on pad 8 to get that to work.
polyphony is set in the virtual instrument. most synthesizers have a polyphony setting that adjusts how many sounds can play simultaneously. Wow, you probably figured it out by now. This post is 3 months old.
It really depends on the specific virtual instrument that you're controlling. Most virtual samplers and synthesizers have a polyphony setting which usually defaults to a number other than 1 (1 sound playing at a time no matter how many pads or keys are being pressed to trigger a note or sample). Check the instrument's manual to find out about it's polyphony capability. Wurd.
Ok, yeah I have since picked up Native Instruments: Kontakt which has a polyphony setting... but I still cant figure out how to do it in Ableton. Ha, looked through that manual front to back
Really cool video. I like how you are sequencing the stuff with the trigger finger instead of doing it the usual way. I have posted a video response with a technique not for chopping a pad sound, but chopping a found sound and turning it INTO a pad. I hope to see more of your videos in the future!
wats dat hes using?? ive seen it alot but dont knw wats it called? lol his fingers must hurt afterawhile

why is it that everytime i load my chops in impulse the sound fades towards the end?
YUCKFEEZY 3 years ago
The trick to getting your sounds to end abruptly instead of fading out is to set the decay to 0.00ms and set them each pad to "Gate".
