he rocks! i was able to play on his team from for a year when he came to canada from austria. he was only 14 playing with 15/16 year olds and still was the top scorer in the league. great guy all around!

I realize vanek was hot during the second half. but most of his goals are tips in or deflections in front of the net. vanek stations himself right in front of the goalie on the sabres power play, that's where he gets most of his goals. check out his stats and look at how many power play goals he had for this season. you can check out his goals on the nhl website, and you'll see that most of them were deflections or rebounds. vanek isn't worth 7 mill. a year. sry, but i gotta say it.
hm... Last time I checked, a goal is still a goal. Maybe you should re-watch those videos and think which ones of those would have gone in if he didn't tip them. Deflections are a skill in the nhl that shows that he is willing to pay the price-- something like Derian Hatcher slashing the fuck out of you-- to score a goal. He also can do things like this, and score a lot of goals, and do it in the clutch. I'd say that is worth his $10mill. that he made this year-- yeah, you got that wrong too
yea you can say that he's worth 10 million a year. but i'm not a believer. the top players in the nhl make 9-10 million a year. vanek isn't one of them. crosby and ovechkin are. and both of them make around 9 million a year. correct me if i'm wrong. but I think thats about right. the only reason vanek makes that much money is because his team needed to match the offer that edmonton proposed to him. they had two options: keep him or release him.
yeah, and i think they chose right. he really turns his game up in the last portion of the season which shows he is growing into a better leader on our team, which i think is worth an average of 7million a year. the ten is only this year, which is good to put on the first year because then you are not bound by it. vanek isn't as good as corsby or ovechkin, but the team wouldn't be nearly as good without him which is why it was the only logical move to keep him.
For the sake of correctness: Vanek's contract was $5 million for two years, then $6.4 million for 5 years. He also had a signing bonus of $5 million in year one and $3 million in year two. So, yes, he did make $10 million total this season, but his salary was only $5 million and his cap hit was only $7.143 million (average of contract). OV and Sidney's extension were for $9.538 and $8.5 million per year, respectively. He may prove to be overpaid, but even in an "off" year he had 36 goals.
vanek is one of the players who arent afraid to go where it hurts, one of the players you need to make the "easy goals" -thats why he gets paid 50 mil....

1rst of all crosby sucks, and vanek is good but hes definantly not consistent enough for 10 mil a year. i would of rather had drury and briere at this poin.they should of figured ot a way t kepp all ofthem, we had such good chemistry and it was only getting better

overrated? if anything hes underrated. second most goals since the allstar break, 3 or 4 hattricks, i cant remember how many, and had the best +/- last season. if anyones overrated, it's crosby. dont get me wrong hes good, but i honestly think malkin is much more talented

I realize vanek was hot during the second half. but most of his goals are tips in or deflections in front of the net. vanek stations himself right in front of the goalie on the sabres power play, that's where he gets most of his goals. check out his stats and look at how many power play goals he had for this season. you can check out his goals on the nhl website, and you'll see that most of them were deflections or rebounds. vanek isn't worth 7 mill. a year. sry, but i gotta say it.

maybe you are wrhigt maybe not. only time will show. BUT a goal is still a goal ;). so it doesnt matter how he scores if he score.
in regular season he had in a not well season 9 game winning goals -> that is quite a lot!

yeh, but thats something good about him. Hes not afraid to go in front of the net, and get a little beat up. He does what he has to do to score.

hm... Last time I checked, a goal is still a goal. Maybe you should re-watch those videos and think which ones of those would have gone in if he didn't tip them. Deflections are a skill in the nhl that shows that he is willing to pay the price-- something like Derian Hatcher slashing the fuck out of you-- to score a goal. He also can do things like this, and score a lot of goals, and do it in the clutch. I'd say that is worth his $10mill. that he made this year-- yeah, you got that wrong too

yea you can say that he's worth 10 million a year. but i'm not a believer. the top players in the nhl make 9-10 million a year. vanek isn't one of them. crosby and ovechkin are. and both of them make around 9 million a year. correct me if i'm wrong. but I think thats about right. the only reason vanek makes that much money is because his team needed to match the offer that edmonton proposed to him. they had two options: keep him or release him.

yeah, and i think they chose right. he really turns his game up in the last portion of the season which shows he is growing into a better leader on our team, which i think is worth an average of 7million a year. the ten is only this year, which is good to put on the first year because then you are not bound by it. vanek isn't as good as corsby or ovechkin, but the team wouldn't be nearly as good without him which is why it was the only logical move to keep him.

For the sake of correctness: Vanek's contract was $5 million for two years, then $6.4 million for 5 years. He also had a signing bonus of $5 million in year one and $3 million in year two. So, yes, he did make $10 million total this season, but his salary was only $5 million and his cap hit was only $7.143 million (average of contract). OV and Sidney's extension were for $9.538 and $8.5 million per year, respectively. He may prove to be overpaid, but even in an "off" year he had 36 goals.

he's an austrian *wooohoo* vanek is my absolute favourite player... i watched the play-offs last season and one game (they all started in the middle of the night because of the time diferrence) nearly took the whole night... but he's a very great hockey player... Hat-off for him!
