i just dont seem to understand why everyone talks about how these dont have any power.. with the hole trailor pulling and such maybe, maybe. i guess since mine is in a shortbed 1/2ton the lighter body and axles make that much differance to what other people think?
@offroadingmachine007 depends on how you use them. if you dont expect them to match cummins/powerstokes/duramax's and maintian them they will last. they are good on fuel and parts are cheap to maintian them. i like them.
@NP535overdrive i did replace the injector pump. i got a db2831 4911 (6.5 turbo pump) the pump and 6.5 turbo injectors cost me 950ish. it cost about twice that to change just injectors on a duramax
In terms of performance, they're pretty weak. They only have 165ph and 330lb ft of torque, but they're good on fuel, and a great engine if you're going to use it for everyday stuff and boats, fifth wheels and stuff. They'll also last long if you take care of it properly, and they're easy to maintain.
@offroadingmachine007 no hes not i have a 6.2 in a 85 chevy all it done its whole life it pull a huge country trailers around every day except the weekends as lon as you change the oil and coolint when needed they are badass enines i had on that even smoked a cummins
People always get them confused with the Olds 5.7 diesel...which was a true hunk of shit. The 6.2/6.5 are a completely different design and are plenty reliable.
@gokartsrule lol yeah it was quite common to blow the 5.7 diesel apart. now a 5.7 gas, especially the olds 5.7 is built like a tank. i perfer the olds block because they used a higher nickel content with their cast iron which made it much more durable. but you cant use chevy 5.7 parts like the heads on the olds block, they are actually different.
@offroadingmachine007 What it comes down to with the 6.2s is how you treat them. If you maintain them right and don't beat the shit out of them they run forever. like sunbirdse93 said the parts are cheap and generally easy to find. However they are very slow. You have to acquire a taste for the type of power they deliver, which is a steady pull, but not quick. On the up side i get about 20mpg average in my 6.2
if i ever rebuild my truck im going to cut the side out of my pan and add some extensions to make it hold around 10 quarts just because 10 is better for hard work in the heat
@6030diesel lol have fun friend, easier said than done, but good luck. btw make sure to get 5 pans. it's gona take a couple time to really get it right, also make sure the motor mounts are good before doing so.
@Motorchevytoyota Lmfao.... i was thinking of the same thing lol

the military used 6.2's in trucks and even in hummvees. they are good on fuel and have alot of torque, but they ain't no cummins.

@sunbirdse93 , wait until you have to rebuild or replae the injection pump on it. you'll change your mind on those "cheap" parts...

i've got a 82 k1500 with a 6.2 diesel, 4 speed manual. might put glass packs on it, needs new starter and radiator first though.
Huskers9481 1 year ago
i drive an international 4900 with a glasspack. it sounds even better with a bigger truck engine.

whoo that trucks got some giddy up.. 5/5+subscription...

hey how do you like the glas packs ?
norcalfiremen 2 years ago
they're nice better than just straight piped. but little actuall driving done with them on. now restoring truck so its going to be a while.
sunbirdse93 2 years ago
did u notice any more power after removing standard system?
sounds savage.
tpvalley 2 years ago
i bought it with the glasspacks, all i did was angle it out the side becuase when i bought it they had it blowing on the axle
sunbirdse93 2 years ago
I love the sound, I know someone with same engine in a landrover.
tpvalley 2 years ago
I got an ol' 6.2 in a '83 GMC K3500 sierra
great engines if they only held more than 7qts of oil and the compression wasn't 21:1 !!!!!
(at least GM made their own)
TheDieselDr 2 years ago
thats fairly standard compression for an indirect injection diesel, for more oil fit an oil cooler maybe?

@tpvalley
does it shift gear a little late?
sounds like governor is limiting rpm before it shifts as if it shifts too higher rpm?
can u adjust shift points by cable adjustment?
