@zacharney1 Hi, I'm working on the T2i, but I've been pretty busy so I don't know when that will be done. Since the T3i was recently introduced, I don't think I'll be able to do the T1i, though the basics are very similar.
@ramidak0s Thanks for the comment. I completely agree, the remote control is the ideal way to go. No matter how steady one's hands are, it will never be like not touching the camera. Although, I have gotten some pretty cool effects when hand holding a one second exposure while on a boat. The light trails become very squiggly.
@ItsJulieee Hi, with all the XSi videos, I use a 28-135IS lens. Unfortunately it's all I had at the time, but with future videos I'll be use kit lenses.
You should have mentioned to your viewers that they won't be able to set their ISO to 100 unless they turn off the Highlight Tone Priority mode. If they leave it enabled the lowest ISO they will achieve is 200. Good video otherwise.
@dcnutter you're probably right. I assume (maybe wrongly) that users of my guides are less advanced and that all custom functions are at their default setting. Thanks for the comment. If anyone is having issues and can't figure out why their camera isn't behaving like mine in the videos, please reset all menu options back to default.
If you know the distance i would let one go off (firework) then manual focus on the distance(as it goes of) its at, then try it with the 2 second shutter speed.
@Nealntm1 Hi, with any lens that doesn't have an infinity setting, I would look through the view finder and try to manually focus as best I can. Even though a lens may not have the infinity symbol on it, the idea remains the same. Since you're using a small aperture setting, you should be fine with the manual focus set to the farthest distance setting possible. As for a flash, check out the Promaster 5250DX at about $80 or a used Canon Speedlite. Thanks for the comment, I hope that helps.

Holding the camera gently won't work good enough. Get a remote control for this kind of shots, they worth every 20€ of it! ;)

What if you don't have infinity at your focus ring? For instance Canon 18-55mm IS kit lens doesn't have such an option.
