This is my favourite Tom Waits song, and my second favourite song of all time. I came up with a backstory for one of my characters, then I heard this song and about two thirds of it matched what I'd written (with some interpretation), so I deliberately rewrote it to match even more, and now when I write the story the character is in I think of Waits' music.
