  • my amp already sounds like this..

  • which one analogman nkt or this pedal?

  • Bought one mainly on the strength of this demo. Thanks Andy!

  • $165 on Amazon, whooo....

    Pricey.

  • let me stand next to your fire!!!

  • i'm not a big of fuzz boxes, but damn i think my ears need a cigarette after the orgasm they just had listening this great demo

  • bought it... fender strat plus + hot rod deluxe + this = win

  • i cant stop listening to that fat tone. i want one

  • It's so difficult to find a germanium fuzz pedal these days, there is just such a massive range of boutique and mass-produced pedals and they each have their quirks. Thanks for highlighting this fantastic pedal and making this decision a little easier. Another fantastic video

  • @ryoga415 Tons of germanium fuzz pedals, just 95% of them are boutique. Fuzz Factory is germanium for instance.

  • i have to say fuzz pedals, and particularly this one, give your tone sooo much texture. i mean its so fat and velvety and you really hear the guitar resonate. its so beautiful :')

  • Which MJM pedal would you guys recommend, the London Fuzz or London 2 Fuzz to get Eddie Hazel's "Maggot Brain" sound and still get Jimi's sound?

I got a Fender Strat., VOX Valvetronix amp, and Mod Tone Wah.

  • @Huntman1394 defo, this one ! i just got it and im in love with it ! and i play exactly that :)

  • Real guitarists watch in 240p.

  • let me stand next to your FIRE... nice)))

  • This is by far the juiciest, warmest and most gnarly sounding fuzz demo I've ever heard! I am buying one.

What exactly did Andy mean by the germanium components being sensitive to temperature changes? If I leave my pedalboard overnight in my band's trailer and it gets cold, will it cause damage to the pedal? Or it just won't sound right until back to normal temp?

  • @cordanscedo - Temperature changes won't damage anything, but germanium pedals will often sound different and respond differently in a cold room vs. a warm room. Just the nature of the beast. Thanks!

    -PGS

  • @cordanscedo

yeah, this one stood out to me as well.

The best fuzz pedal i owned was my first (1991) and I recall hating it until I used it in tandem with the amps tube overdrive...I backed the fuzz gain to half(less fizzy) and cranked the level and this made the spattery/sagging quality really smooth and but with a vicious ripple effect on chords, the notes would morph from dark to bright with a warm sustain.

It got stolen after a gig, they could have taken my guitar or other pedals :(

  • @cordanscedo Generally, germanium gets crazier when it's colder.

  • hello Andy,i just know, wich fuzz is better?

I think that the mxr m173 got a cold sound,

but i'm dubious among the mjm, fulltone 69,the mxr and the dunlop jimi hendrix fuzz...

P.S. i want a warm and hendrix sound, for the rock, jazz and blues, also with the wah

    THANKS

  • what kind of voltage does this effect need?

  • it sounds a bit like the zvex ff but without all the unmanagable self oscilating madness. really great demo just wish i could afford one!

  • So is this circuit an original design or is it an implementation of one of Hendrix's effects made with NOS parts?

  • I just bought this from PGS! can't wait 'til it comes in the mail!!!!!!!!!

  • I like it.

  • The volume knob is the greatest secret weapon ever devised for guitar. So unassuming, but so powerful.

  • @TheGibbySG f u

  • I like the fuzz tones where the fuzz breaks up the tone like that. Plain awesome. Great tone. simple layout. great pedal.

  • so for a strat... to adjust how clean/dirty it is, all you do it fiddle with the volume knob on the guitar itself?

  • @sketchead2 Oh yeah, that's how people have been doing it for years. It stems from a less sophistsicated time before channel switching and what not. You'd be surprised at how many people don't experiment with their own guitar's controls.

    Thanks,

    PGS

  • @sketchead2 Jeff Beck and David Gilmour are good examples of a legends who makes use of this skill, especially for fuzz faces with Gilmour who sets the drive of his fuzz face to max and uses the volume knob to control the gain for powerful solos or turnd down for warm overdrives (think Money from Darkside of the moon), or Beck who uses the volume to control dynamics with his finger picking..

  • Are they using 9v or 12v??

  • @the0sval Standard 9v

  • Very nice tone, sounds really close to the old fuzz face, it's just what i was lookin for, really nice, thanks alot for the review!

  • Heeeeeeeeyy Joooooooeee!!!!

  • Where you gonna run to now, Joe?

  • How much does it cost?

  • it sounds amazing!!! realy i have this pedal and waw. But its pretty loud though

  • is it useable live?

  • Will the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power Plus run this? I've heard most would prefer batteries but it's nice to have an option. Someone said it was reversed polarity?

  • @JayDeeSG on the wall adapter / whatever you're using, if you look closely at where it has the input/output volts amps etc. it'll have this circle with another circle, that'll show the polarity of the wall adapter, then check the back of a pedal and if they're they are the same polarity (the - and + are on the same inside/outside circles) then it will work. soz if i'm confusing

  • @JayDeeSG No one answered you! Yes it is a reversed polarity and the voodoo lab will run it iF you use their reversed polarity cables they provide. It needs a reversed polarity barel connector.

  • Anyone know how much these retail for? I can't find anywhere that sells them

  • @lordieuan777 - Really....Really? : )

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos lol... I guess that doesn't make me too clever, huh... but do you guys ship to the UK? That was kinda what I meant, nowhere in England that sells them, or at least advertises that they do

  • @lordieuan777 - We ship to the UK every day.

  • @lordieuan777 FAIL lol

  • @lordieuan777 PGS = pro guitar SHOP!

  • Does this pedal behave with a wah ? thx

  • this is the best fuzz pedal i've ever heard.

  • Comment removed

  • I want this so bad!!!

  • are the transistors nkt 275 or just the standard germanium transistors?

  • gahh i can't decide between the LF or the LFII. I guess i'll just have to get them both....

  • @PsychedelicPie7

I'd go for 1, it's just that kick in the balls sound, fricking amazing and sounds truly vintage. The 2 could just as well be a modern fuzz

  • Dear PGS,

i'm thinking about buying this pedal in your store, but i can't choose between red or blue versions. For Voodoo Chile by Hendrix, what is better? That song has awesome fuzz sound.

    Thanks!

  • @Silencer84 Me personally, I would go for the red (gemanium). just because the sound appeals more to me, but i think, for that particular song the London 2 (silicone) would probably be more accurate. All in all, it 's personal choice, so you could see if proguitarshop would let you exchange the one you bought for the other if it didn't meet your needs.

  • analogman peppermint fuzz kills all

  • oxfuzz or mjm london fuzz for hendrix sound??

  • how does this one compare in sound with the bigger , earlier London model ?

  • JUST received this pedal in the mail. It sounds better in real life. On the video here, it's almost like it's bottoming out. Like the bass is overpowering.

Great REAL fuzz tone. The tone was Horrible with my compressor in the effect chain even though it wasn't on, so I removed it. My guitar is going into a Morley wah then London Fuzz then a Boss super shift and Tuner, ABY box into Amps. The tone is perfect.

  • dear PGS, how would this pedal do in a mix

  • That depends on a lot of factors such as the amp clean or distorted, what kind of guitar. I would say fuzz in moderation is always a good idea. Jimi was always cleaning up on the guitar or just using fuzz for solos.

  • yeah amp's always clean, running it on its own might not be a good idea.. I could also pair it up with an ocd, super hardon, hyper pack or boosts of that kind. How would you use it? given that the amp won't give much extra overdrive..

    thanks for your response

  • 3:51 is sleep's dopesmoker tone. Really cool pedal

  • This is the best sounding fuzz i have heard.

  • yeah the intro is aweome... cant find any other good sound clips tough... so i wonder what it will sound like over my clean orange 30W

  • Sounds great, but I'd rather have a ARbiter fuzz...

  • what happens if you use this pedal for a gain boost? does the sound from the amp become fuzzy? i hope it does!

  • yeah but i would watch out, when the input in the fuzz becomes too high, it will distort beyond the levels of usable saturation

  • This or the octavio?

  • Comment removed

  • Check again, they have the Red now on Ebay, just type in MJM Guitar, alot of MJM pedals came up.

  • Cant decide Red Version or Blue?? I use both singlecoil n Buckers...

  • @05rsx red! sounds so much sweeter...

  • so how does this compare to the fuzz factory and the fuzz face?

also looking at the way huge fuzz (swollen pickle?) and i've heard of this thing called the oxfuzz??

  • for hendrix the throbak fuzz haze is killer!

  • this is a fuzz face! the circuit is the same... fuzz factory is way different. I wouldn't bother with dunlop, I heard one of those new models sound sweet but some don't. Here they are in the same price range as London so... ;)

I wonder if there's any noticable difference between the new ones and the old ones, I have an old red one (the big flat enclosure) and it sound sweeet. I'd buy it again if it was stolen, really...

  • swollen pickle fuzz FTW

  • is this basically the go-to fuzz for this sound?

    /watch?v=Hka6zk8tmcg

    (hendrix at monterey, 1967)

  • this or the diaz or ox fuzz?

  • i think it boils down to this and the oxfuzz. i am deciding between the two. they are both awesome. both scary good tones. can't go wrong with eigther.

  • This...

  • Should i get this or the neo fuzz ?????? i cant decide!

  • i have the neo and this is much better.(for single coils at least.)

  • if someone could tell me where to get it to europe/belgium for best price :d

  • Build your own! Buy hand selected germanium transistors (google "fuzz face germanium buy"). Also google the schematic and you're done for under 40E.

  • I like this the best of all the MJM fuzz boxes

  • This is rather brilliant

  • ive got a shin ei companion fuzz box fy2 for sale, think its from 1970ish

  • Does this pedal work well with a Wah wah?

  • Dude, Joe, what up with the gun, man?

  • This does sound great.

  • I would love to see a shootout between this and a big muff...

  • yah but they dont sound alike at all

  • big muff is lower spec.

  • I meant more along the line of components. The big muff uses 2 or 3 silicon transistors and has a tone knob. This uses germanium transistors and has only the fuzz and volume. The eqs of each pedal are also extremely different.

  • Sounds great. I love the way it cleans up rolling down the volume knob.

  • sounds great

  • 3:29 that the TONE

  • Beautifuly broken sounds man. I'm goin' to look into this for sure.

  • I know it's probably a different riff, but that part at 4:14 sounds so much like David Gilmour's part in the funky middle part of Pink Floyd's "Echoes". Unreal sounding pedal, really great.

  • Great pedal and some great playing there too... I like that piece of music there at the end of the video... very nice.

  • Warm, flutey tone. Of an amp that is closer to blowing up than anyone would like. Only a good fuzz face design can give that sound, and I think that this is the best that I've heard. But can anyone please say if there are any differences between this version and the older one?

  • Hey Joe, were you going with that gun in your hand?

  • To shoot his wife. Did you even listen to the song haha

  • There are certain allegations that she was messin' round with another man

  • that ain't too cool

  • I heard he was goin way down south. Maybe that Mexico way?

  • i heard that wants to get free

  • Way down where he could feel the breeze?

  • And buy some Burger King on the way back. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, hm? What burger you ask? A juicy FUZZ burger! Amazing pedal!

  • which kind of pedal would you use to play heavy metal riffs like eg// metallica

  • use a distortion not a fuzz

  • not this.

  • You can buy the footswitch pedal for a Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ and pray.

  • lol

  • good one ;*

  • hey andy whats the size of this pedal? and is it the same size as the london fuzz II

  • HEY JOE FOR INTRO!!!!

  • no shit sherlock

  • I haven't heard "No Shit Sherlock." Was that from Jimi's band of gypsys days?

  • how does this sound whith a wah pedal?

  • what les paul was that? sounds amazing!!! I realy want this pedal, but its pretty difficult to get one so it seems here in Europe...

  • i WANT THIS. SWEET AND DIRTY FUZZ

  • i messed my pants.

  • Hey Andy how loud were you playing when you recorded that intro?

  • The Deluxe Reverb is usually around 3 or 4 on the volume for these demos.

  • This is the best fuzz ive heard in a while I love that broken sound; would go well with a killswitch eh?

  • Analogman Sun Faces are the best fuzz face style pedals on the planet.

  • ...after the MJM London Fuzz Pedal.

  • ChonnyChimole you have right ;)

  • So many fuzzes out there... What fuzz would you recommend to keep an LP with muddy pickups ('57classics) clear and not overly smooth?

  • Please review the London Fuzz silicon version too :-)

  • Oh my God! What a beautiful Germanium fuzz...with Les Paul too! Coolest Fuzz now in commerce to me!

  • wow that opening gave me a boner. wow im loving the germanium

  • It still eats Area 51 Fuzz's mom's face which costs $175 USD

  • love the way it spits the notes at you, awsome fuzz.

  • MJM?!!!! YOU GUYS GOTTA CHECK OUT THE MJM 60's VIBE!!! Its 100% percent spec. to the vintage uni-vibe! Best pedal I own by far. Please demo!!!! The world needs to see this pedal!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Out of all fuzz pedals andy demoed here , I like this one and the frantone peachfuzz the most.

    PGS!

  • hells yeah

  • best ballsy germanium fuzz i ever heard.

  • that thing is awesome. how much it run

  • Hey Joe. Love it.

  • "Hey Joe..... where you goin' with that fuzz in your hand?"

Seriously though, VERY cool pedal.... and just think, Mike Fuller had nothing to do with it!!

  • I'm gonna plug it into my amplifier...I caught it being used by another man...

  • Allright, plug it one more time baby!

  • i´ve fall in love with the tone of this fuzz.

    how much does it costs??
