It's so difficult to find a germanium fuzz pedal these days, there is just such a massive range of boutique and mass-produced pedals and they each have their quirks. Thanks for highlighting this fantastic pedal and making this decision a little easier. Another fantastic video
i have to say fuzz pedals, and particularly this one, give your tone sooo much texture. i mean its so fat and velvety and you really hear the guitar resonate. its so beautiful :')
This is by far the juiciest, warmest and most gnarly sounding fuzz demo I've ever heard! I am buying one.
What exactly did Andy mean by the germanium components being sensitive to temperature changes? If I leave my pedalboard overnight in my band's trailer and it gets cold, will it cause damage to the pedal? Or it just won't sound right until back to normal temp?
@cordanscedo - Temperature changes won't damage anything, but germanium pedals will often sound different and respond differently in a cold room vs. a warm room. Just the nature of the beast. Thanks!
The best fuzz pedal i owned was my first (1991) and I recall hating it until I used it in tandem with the amps tube overdrive...I backed the fuzz gain to half(less fizzy) and cranked the level and this made the spattery/sagging quality really smooth and but with a vicious ripple effect on chords, the notes would morph from dark to bright with a warm sustain.
It got stolen after a gig, they could have taken my guitar or other pedals :(
@sketchead2 Oh yeah, that's how people have been doing it for years. It stems from a less sophistsicated time before channel switching and what not. You'd be surprised at how many people don't experiment with their own guitar's controls.
@sketchead2 Jeff Beck and David Gilmour are good examples of a legends who makes use of this skill, especially for fuzz faces with Gilmour who sets the drive of his fuzz face to max and uses the volume knob to control the gain for powerful solos or turnd down for warm overdrives (think Money from Darkside of the moon), or Beck who uses the volume to control dynamics with his finger picking..
Will the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power Plus run this? I've heard most would prefer batteries but it's nice to have an option. Someone said it was reversed polarity?
@JayDeeSG on the wall adapter / whatever you're using, if you look closely at where it has the input/output volts amps etc. it'll have this circle with another circle, that'll show the polarity of the wall adapter, then check the back of a pedal and if they're they are the same polarity (the - and + are on the same inside/outside circles) then it will work. soz if i'm confusing
@JayDeeSG No one answered you! Yes it is a reversed polarity and the voodoo lab will run it iF you use their reversed polarity cables they provide. It needs a reversed polarity barel connector.
@ProGuitarShopDemos lol... I guess that doesn't make me too clever, huh... but do you guys ship to the UK? That was kinda what I meant, nowhere in England that sells them, or at least advertises that they do
i'm thinking about buying this pedal in your store, but i can't choose between red or blue versions. For Voodoo Chile by Hendrix, what is better? That song has awesome fuzz sound.
@Silencer84 Me personally, I would go for the red (gemanium). just because the sound appeals more to me, but i think, for that particular song the London 2 (silicone) would probably be more accurate. All in all, it 's personal choice, so you could see if proguitarshop would let you exchange the one you bought for the other if it didn't meet your needs.
JUST received this pedal in the mail. It sounds better in real life. On the video here, it's almost like it's bottoming out. Like the bass is overpowering.
Great REAL fuzz tone. The tone was Horrible with my compressor in the effect chain even though it wasn't on, so I removed it. My guitar is going into a Morley wah then London Fuzz then a Boss super shift and Tuner, ABY box into Amps. The tone is perfect.
That depends on a lot of factors such as the amp clean or distorted, what kind of guitar. I would say fuzz in moderation is always a good idea. Jimi was always cleaning up on the guitar or just using fuzz for solos.
yeah amp's always clean, running it on its own might not be a good idea.. I could also pair it up with an ocd, super hardon, hyper pack or boosts of that kind. How would you use it? given that the amp won't give much extra overdrive..
this is a fuzz face! the circuit is the same... fuzz factory is way different. I wouldn't bother with dunlop, I heard one of those new models sound sweet but some don't. Here they are in the same price range as London so... ;)
I wonder if there's any noticable difference between the new ones and the old ones, I have an old red one (the big flat enclosure) and it sound sweeet. I'd buy it again if it was stolen, really...
i think it boils down to this and the oxfuzz. i am deciding between the two. they are both awesome. both scary good tones. can't go wrong with eigther.
I meant more along the line of components. The big muff uses 2 or 3 silicon transistors and has a tone knob. This uses germanium transistors and has only the fuzz and volume. The eqs of each pedal are also extremely different.
I know it's probably a different riff, but that part at 4:14 sounds so much like David Gilmour's part in the funky middle part of Pink Floyd's "Echoes". Unreal sounding pedal, really great.
Warm, flutey tone. Of an amp that is closer to blowing up than anyone would like. Only a good fuzz face design can give that sound, and I think that this is the best that I've heard. But can anyone please say if there are any differences between this version and the older one?
