  • WHY IS THIS STILL ON THE FUCKING HOMEPAGE!?!?!

  • The annotations make this video epic.

  • @MrCrowsoft I think they are pretty funny too :)

Many people have told me that I should block access and delete them, but why should I? haters gonna hate, eh?

  • Berkeley may not have argued well, but neither have you. it's your word against his word. go back to Descartes problem. How can I tell if I am not a brain in a vat, or attached to "The Matrix"? Maybe "God" is "The Architect" of "The Matrix"? I don't know if it is so, but I cannot (at least i don't know how to) tell the difference between "real" and "image / idea".

  • v v vSubscribe v v v

  • <-- Subscribe !! :)

  • Came for the philosophy, stayed for the annotations

  • What came before his philosophy? Weren't they still persecuting rabbit-conjuring magic witches, or was that in Kant's time? This philosophy is old and useless, it's time for a new approach for a holistic philosophy- were old-school magic and new-world d/numbing down meet and work together to define our pathetic present and a ever-crumbling future! Kant, Berkeley, B. Russell, et.al. All naval-gazing silver-spooned hospital interns narrow-mindedly debating much ado about nothing!

  • @CanguroArgentino It all starts with Human Nature, as philosophy is a pursuit of the mind, religion of the soul, and every endeavor can be defined with its faults or endowments, like Hitler's vanity, Obama's greed, Cook's self-righteousness, Ghandi's selflessness, etc, etc. My main question to Philosophy: What part of the brain has state education dulled by filling the rest with so much crap, and Why?!

  • @CanguroArgentino And of vital interest are the files concerning population experimentation in WWII, which is still, to this date, deemed "too controversial" for the general public! Also, Vatican's hidden caves of valuable artifacts from Alexandria, and who's to say Atlantis, as well? It's up to Philosophy to JOIN THE DOTS!

  • DO you mold your self after "Bobby" from Supernatural?

  • It"s actually spelled Berkeley but is pronounced with an A!

  • thumbs up for cock CUNTS!

  • Interesting!

Thanks for a lil mind flex! I guess I'd be a layman regarding philosophy. And had not heard of Berkley prior. But now I have I may look at what else I might find? From him as well as others... Cheers mate!!!

  • Well hooray! someone who thinks like I do, I am just over people telling me that something only exists in our perception and that objects dont exist until we give our attention to them. This is B.S.of course the objects exists - how would they ever draw up street maps for instance with landmarks, if they didn't. There would be total chaos on the streets, if we all relied on our perception to create something, we would be crashing cars having accidents, as we don't share the same perception. Gr8!

  • That hobbit you just called fat? He's skipping 2nd breakfast. The dwarf you called ugly? She spends hours every day braiding her beard so you can differentiate her from the males. See the Gollum creature with the large eyes and gangly arms? For 500 years the Ring poisoned his mind. That Elf you just made fun of for crying? He just lost his wizard friend to a Bal-rog. You never know what it's like to be bullied in Middle Earth until you walk a mile in their bare feet.

  • شكرا لك

  • Immaterialism is like saying all is illusion. We need solid reality; as certainty is part of the material and concrete world we share. Otherwise we simply couldn't function - we need solidity and certainty from our world. Thank ` you . j

  • wow you really are trying hard to be and sound intelligent...... but its really not working

  • Yes, awesome vid, thanks! This is helpful in my studies, especially when you kind of explain all the concepts you're mentioning, like Descartes and whatever... but like, do that more! All you're talk of Kant and Locke left my head spinning and you should probably try to consolidate your rants about perception-existence inequalities before you start yelling about them. But that's coming from some Year 11 kid in Melbourne... I mean, I don't know if education is even your goal here -but it helps :D

  • don't give up yer day job hey!

  • >yawn<

  • great annotations.... lololol

  • Berkeley should have spent more time perceiving himself and then accept that he in fact did not exist because it was only his perception...then take no actions to keep his ongoing perception of self alive because in the end he admitted that even he does not exist. or look at some teachings of G.I.Gurdjieff and see what he meant when he said that all these philosophical ramblings come to nothing more than discussing the qualities of apples.

  • @KRPTDxKWZS Solopsism is flawed in the fact that it is argued at all. If the only thing that exists is in your own mind, why bother talking to others about it.

  • what a wast of time

  • Win caption at 1:13

  • Well done!! you put religion into the philosophical argument where it belongs

  • wow the annotations are really annoying...

  • ugh speech bubbles all over - wtf - hacked or spammed, I dunno

  • @AncestralReflections no hacking involved. I added collaborative annotations because I was interested to see how people would use them.

The result was pure comedy. Who am I to deny people their fun?

  • We are in the MATRIX.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=zSj9zRZ3GGg

  • i love this guy

  • HAHAHAHAHHAH this guy is trippy as

EVERYBODY HAVE ABOUT 9 or 10 shots of jack daniels then watch this HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH

who the fuk can a river run with four legs

  • HAHAHAHAHHAH this guy is trippy as

EVERYBODY HAVE ABOUT 9 or 10 shots of jack daniels then watch this HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • there are these new vloggers named the frenchmen platoon go look em up because the sad thing is they are so funny but don't have any viewers. they only have one vid at the moment

  • Can i get a hi?

  • @mrfgwankee hi ^^

  • I dont get why all of the speech bubbles are appearing?

  • @RyanTellUs I'm not sure if everyone has access to add shared annotations to their videos, because the feature was added at around the same time I got partnership status. As for, why are they appearing on this video, and not other videos? It's because I specifically enabled shared annotations on this video, free for anyone to comment on and/or "vandalise" as they see fit. Call it an ongoing sociological study of a specific youtube demographic.

  • @kungfucolin Oh I see, makes more sense now thanks for clarifying that was confused. At first I thought yo'd done it yourself. Well I dont believe your sociological study really needs to be ongoing, the evidence is overwhelming evidence. Idiots. Keep it up mate.

  • @kungfucolin Hello kungfucolin, I was just wondering.. how do I add these annotations?

  • @kungfucolin . Get honest mate... You're "ChickoRollColin". Your philosophy? As mysterious as the ingredients of a chiko roll. Demographic study? Conclusion, most people have ditched this video within 15 seconds.... I type slow.

  • @kungfucolin How do u actually add annotations?

  • @joecoolsthename a quick google search will yield some results :)

  • Furthermore, of all the videos I've made that I'd like to be in popular circulation, there are others I would choose ahead of this one, I can assure you.

  • @ChidAndBick If I were to guess, it would be because of a lack of other videos that share the same subcategories. Subcategories include but are not limited to: Australia, Philosophy, Education. Shared Annotations. If more people in this region made videos with the same subcategories, I would expect those to be in the same circulation.

Once again, these are only theories. Clearly the selection works on some algorithm, but who other than the coders knows what that expression actually looks like?

  • @kungfucolin It could be a positive feedback loop, in part fed by all the lamos writing primary school comments then telling their friends. From what I understand, google rank not only according to content but on popularity. Should be the same here.

Good video besides the graffiti. Philosophy is not at all irrelevant, as like you said it encourages critical thinking and sharpens your logic. Too bad for all those who missed that point

  • lol, is there some back ground knowledge or introduction to this topic, I have absolutely no idea what you're saying

  • @arnygy Hey that's probably a pretty good point. My advice would probably be to check the wikipedia entry for Berkeley if you're interested in the guy himself, or check out Someone like John Locke to get a good idea of the popular philosophical paradigm, empiricism. Great background to this argument.

  • gotta love the trolling

  • and you'll be paying off your uni debt debt with philosophy....or you can perceive it doesn't exist. some days you wish you chose a real career path hey?

  • @omnicronvegas u can turn philosophy into a different career such as writing or poetry cock head.

  • @omnicronvegas Yes to both :) I think anyone taking themselves too seriously in philosophy should take a look at the annotations on this video hehe. It goes to show what a joke philosophy is in the eyes of many. It's more something to study because it interests you, and because it gives access to good generic critical thinking skills, but as for career, philosophy is generally reserved for career academics, or pot smokers. ^_^

  • Wish I had kept studying philosophy at Utas, it was a good course. There are some interesting counterarguments to Berkeley as well =) A good summary of it!!

  • wtf is this

  • gay as hell!

  • i m gonna subscribe you and then open the dictionary, and then talk to you later.

  • i agree with u but perseption isnt relient on stimulus take for instance wen someone is stranded in a desert and they see a mirage of an oasis there is no actual oasis or "stimulus" but a perception is made. so basically im just pointing out that the existance of an apple is not necessary for the perception of an apple tho thats not to say that perception of an apple is necessary for the apples existance... im only 17 so if i just made an ass of my self please forgive me haha

  • @SOG3000 hehe, you haven't made an ass of yourself at all, but I consider you do a little research on the 'noumenon'.

Google it and see what you turn up.

  • macquarie university?

  • @LloydAus Utas

  • a few years ago did you do a video of you deleting your WoW account, if so i would like to let you know that it made me quit

  • Whilst I'm not saying Berkeley is correct, your arguments for why he is wrong is somewhat problematic in and of itself.

  • His name is pronounced 'Barkeley'

  • "I could have said more" Thank God you didn't.

Despite using moderately sophisticated words you failed to create a comprehensive and coherent argument. You were all over the place.

I think bogans should stick to drinking beers. And that hat is an epic fail.

  • @jonnois Thanks for commenting without watching the video. a WIN for failing.

  • @kungfucolin i did watch it, i was just commenting on the religeous part at the start

  • @jonnois If I've misinterpreted you, I'm sorry - your comment doesn't give much information.

  • Comment removed

  • Everyone is complaining about this video , if you don't like it , don't bother watching and commenting on it or adding stupid captions , there's people who actually like the video and want to watch it without immiture dumbass's recking it, i didn't like the video either but hey i'm not abusing this man with stupid captions or adding abusive comments

  • Spent the whole video crossing those pop-ups

  • @Mistersamsam turn off the annotations.

  • 2 years later and it's still here.

  • WHY IS THIS SHIT STILL ON THE FRONT PAGE?

  • good reply - that your sorry - i get upset - a true smartarse? whats that mental health or aa throw of from a real apology -- dont write to me to put me down in a pretend apology - you are a low life and i hope karma affects you in this lifetime for the scum you are . always deflect everythign in your belief of superior philosophy... moron is a validation you dont deserve -

  • @daydreams4rock if you took a look at my page status, you may have noticed that I haven't been online for a week :) that being said, sorry that you get upset so easily.

  • Does anyone know why the heck this video (and a few others) show up so often on the youtube home page?

  • @JeanLouie1106 I suspect it is related to a shortage of alternative videos in the specific field (Australia, Partner, Education.

  • you guys are all ass holes this video is for people who give a shit..

so dont watch it if you dont care.. bunch of losers!

  • what about your brain? Can I see it ,smell it ,feel it ? How do I know that you have one ? You dont have to experience these things to know it exists!

  • @ChristRegeneration it's pretty easy to prove whether or not people have objects we identify with as "brains" embedded in their skulls. they can be seen, smelled, and felt!

  • enough annotations there?

  • @speedingcabbage never enough! i left the annotation channel open specifically because i derive humour from the comments on the annotations.

  • righto. top stuff

  • What about the philosofy of we don't give a shit.

  • @tblaxxable then why even watch this video?

  • @tblaxxable Its ''Philosophy'' not "Philosofy"

  • @xXFind815Xx I take it that your spare time is used to troll youtube looking for spelling mistakes? Wow, I'm impressed.

  • @tblaxxable What?! Haha Really?! you're "impressed"!? Hahaha You must get impressed easily, 1 spelling mistake which was so badly spelt it had to be corrected. Wow, That must of been the highlight of your day...

  • @tblaxxable or the philosophy of spelling...

  • woteva

  • @tblaxxable *whatever

  • @cptsupamang

    seek medical assistance

  • Of course a stonemason will make observations (based on undeniable, unchallenged, PROVEN and universal facts) compared to an average person. That's truth by demonstration, which exceeds philosophy...

  • @hypr0040 I think it's interesting where you use the word undeniable. Your argument here relies on an inferred conclusion that only these type of facts or observations (the stonemason example) are either worth your trouble noticing, or indeed are the only facts available to this kind of observation in the first place.

Forcing your audience to infer your conclusion is a poor form of argument.

The only other thing I see here is a blatant agreement with the characteristic of the stonemason.

  • "exceeds philosophy" indeed..

  • great but Berkly's schematic philosophical notions seems and sound weird > obviously someone who didn't believe in Religion or a higher being than himself.

  • Whats with the annotations?

  • RETARD

  • Flagged

  • I saved 60% on stormproof holiday hair!

  • lol, this vid is too funny;)

  • hi bro, kiwi livin in aussie here.i dont have much knowledge about who came up with what philosophy so thanks for the vid, although ill probably forget the guys name and just remember the theory, but thats my problem.what would you say is the difference between perception and experience?i think i would understand more clearly if i knew your definitions, hope you can answer for me.Thanks,Peaceout...

  • HAHAHA i cant pay attention to what hes saying if i watch the vid cause of all the text bubbles

  • era yous motha fuka's, yous are problay worse den him, he a good proud Aussie there giving the best he could, but its insane wit da shit all ova it,

DRG-DRSYA-VIVEKA (the seer and the seen)

its not a philosophy book its an inquiry

  • perception strain theroy is sociology

  • you look like a retard, but you actually pretty clever. hmm

  • @bigchoonage i know right.. don't ask me why, lol.

  • Hi, at my school formal I was awarded "Mr. Philosophy" :)

  • Colin, mate, I'm 40 and only now do I wish to become a man of words. I would love to comment on Berkeley's theories, but I as yet dont know anywhere near enough to open my mouth and make an ass out of my self LOL But I feel that if you define anything of a physical nature in absolute terms based purely on your perception of it, regardless of the sense used, then you fail to truly understand it because you perceive it through a "tunnel vision" state of mind. Bugger, wish I was smarter... in time

  • Type between win and tube in url

  • are you aussie? you should do this same thing with arthur schopenhaur

  • @kungfucolin thanks you for the vid, it is very informative. Do you take the existence of an eternal, omnipresent and omniscient spirit in Berkeleys' theory to be a necessary presmise or an obvious and only conclusion?

  • @Ioannisthegreat7 and why?

  • I love philosophy. Immaterialism sounds like solipsism.

  • Ayeeee Col - howzit goin mate.

  • In a dream, there are no "real" scissors, yet I can have a perception which appears like scissors. It is simply an assumption to say there's "real" object beyond the perception.

Length, width, height, color... make no sense without a subject perceiving these properties... which is Berkeley's essential point and he's right... if there is something that is giving the perception of the scissors... this thing doesn't experiencable properties... it is kant's noumenon... it's unintelligible.

  • @otakurocklee Do you take the existence of an eternal, omnipresent and omniscient spirit in Berkeley's theory to be a necessary presmise or an obvious and only conclusion?

  • @Ioannisthegreat7 To me, Berkeley's great insight is that primary qualities (length, width, height etc.) are just as mind dependent as secondary qualities like color, taste and smell... Locke made this primary/secondary distinction which is false. I don't take the existence of god to be a necessary premise or conclusion of berkeley's philosophy. Just because the properties we perceive are mind-dependent, it doesn't follow that a supermind had to create them.

  • @otakurocklee cheers for the insight. But wouldn't berkeleys' world collapse into chaos and unpredictabiliy if there were no god in his arguement to sustain the world without common minds perceiving it now-there needs something to perceive reality at all times and places otherwise an object disappears once you stop perceiving it. What if a mind changed its belief, its perception? Without a supermind in his arguement wouldn't it follow that reality would change depending on independent minds ?

  • @Ioannisthegreat7 Yes, if we stick with Berkeley's idea that nothing can exist unless it is being perceived, then we need a supermind. I think he is right that the objects of our "experience" indeed don't exist unless we perceive them... But, there may be something that does not need to be perceived to exist, that is causing all our sense data... kant's thing-in-itself, or noumenon etc...

For Berkeley, god takes the role of the thing in itself, that causes the regularity of our experience...

  • @otakurocklee yes, that's what I meant- god in relation to berkeley not real life. Thanks a lot and there is one more thing. You talked about equivocation. I know what equivocation is but could you expand on that (equivocation) in relation to Berkeley beyond what was said in your vid cause I find it very interesting! Thanks again in advance!

  • @Ioannisthegreat7 hi loannisthegreat7. I think you're mixing me up with kungfucolin. :)

  • @otakurocklee haha yes sorry for that, it's 2 in the morning in the UK and I m kinda tired :) But if you could expand on it (equivocation in berkeleys' arguement) it'd be great.

  • @Ioannisthegreat7 Well, kungfucolin's point is that the perception of an object is something different from the object itself. Say we look at some object holding it in front of us... then we look at it under water... it may look distorted underwater... ie: our perception of the object has changed, but the object itself hasn't. This is the "common-sense" viewpoint. So kungfucolin is saying that we have to separate the perception, from the object itself.

  • @Ioannisthegreat7

I personally disagree with this... practically it makes sense that certain perceptions of the object are "better" than others, so that we don't run into things etc... but in the common sense view... what we are referring to as the "object" is still a perception. Maybe we have bad eyesight... so we don't have a good perception of something... so we imagine the object itself, but what we're really doing is bringing in a different perception, that may be more practical.

  • @Ioannisthegreat7 regardless of how well our senses function. The qualities we're ascribing to the object are sensory-qualities... color, length,shape,size... they make no sense without reference to someone experiencing something.

So if there is something in and of itself independent of an experiencer, its qualities are not experienceable... its qualities can't be length, color, shape etc...

  • @otakurocklee @otakurocklee thanks for the explanation- I am currently reading a manual on the equivocation fallacy, yet it's too long and your explanation pretty much sums up what i have read so far. Thanks again
